Green Tea

Years ago, I tried a few green teas, (granted, they were bagged, that may have had something to do with it.) And hadn’t really been inclined to try that again. Then when I started on my tea craze in April, researching and whatnot, I noticed the water temp and steeping times being different. (I hadn’t known that years ago.) So I figured that I had probably been doing it wrong, and there fore hadn’t given green tea a fair shot. So decided to start again, but so far, have not had any green tea that inspires me, with exception of the Iced Green Peach Tea from Arby’s.

So, what my question is, I would like to try better quality green tea, but not have to pay an arm and a leg, and preferably from an American company that accepts Visa gift debit cards, because that is my only method of payment at the moment. I am not sure if I want to try green tea with or without flavoring 1st, though I suspect, with the type of teas that I’ve liked so far, I would prefer the ones with flavoring.
What would you’ll suggest? And thanks ahead of time.

They’re most likely not going to be flavored but you should order Den’s Tea’s sampler anyway, for sure! http://www.denstea.com/bnew-to-dens-teab-c-377.html
It’s just $3 and you get 6 teas things to try, so it’s worth a shot for the cost. And you get a coupon for $3 off $15.

My favorite flavored greens that are cheap are Blue Mango from Tropical Tea Company and Long Island Strawberry, which a lot of different companies sell, but I think English Tea Store is likely the cheapest. They have a flavored green sampler too that includes it. It’s 7 different teas, an ounce each, and $6.89 right now. http://www.englishteastore.com/tea-sampler-flavored-green-loose.html
It has: Lavender Butterfly, Earl Grey Green, Lemon Green, Granny Green Apple, Chai Green, Bohemian Raspberry, Long Island Strawberry

oh and code facebook1 gets you free shipping @ English Tea Store. All 3 companies have Paypal available for payment.

you should try Antioxidant berry burst by sTEAp Shoppe http://www.steapshoppe.com/loose-tea/hyson-green-tea-antioxidant-berry-burst.html. I found that most green tea tastes like grass unless you add flavors. After a search I found this one that tastes like berry but has all the good stuff green tea gives you.

Try Adagio teas, they are an American company that have about 40 type of green teas from unflavored varieties to flavored. You can also buy sampler sets like this one http://www.adagio.com/green/green_sampler.html?SID=8538546b9bd2524e8f5b6a619c177015

If you send me a private message with your email I can send you a $5 off coupon.

Adagio’s great. Good prices, decent tea, tons of selection.

You can’t go wrong with Lupicia’s Strawberry Vanilla green! They are a Japanese company but have a base in California. I don’t know if they accept Visa gift cards, but it’s worth a shot. They are amazing. But if you just want to try some teas without paying for 2 oz of something you may not like, swapping might be the better option. I happen to have lots of green tea I’d be happy to share. Any chance you’ll be in the NYC area sometime soon?

Or PM me and we can work something out. :)

If you want to swap – I have a couple greens in my cupboard you could try.

We have a few green teas available as well and sampler packs. Some of our teas have been reviewed by Steepsters so check it out if you like. We’re a new company so ask around about us:
http://steepster.com/teas/the-tea-merchant?letter=T

We have 20% off all tea right now if you use code: 20AUG2012 at checkout, which would mean our Green tea Sampler is only $8.00. And there should be no issues with your visa gift card and we are a Californian company that started about 2 months ago.

Also would like to ask if this sort of self promotion is frowned upon in this community. Don’t want to step on any toes.

A lot of tea companies promote; as long as you’re not spamming/flooding the discussion boards, I myself (and I think I speak for most people?) don’t have a problem with it.

I see no problem with it. There are a lot of tea vendors out there and it’s hard to keep up with them all. I would not have known about or given some a chance if it wasn’t for seeing their posts and people’s reviews of their teas on Steepster. Like Michelle said, keep it reasonable and don’t spam and it should be fine.

My first green teas were from Harney & Sons, but they DON’T take Visa gift debit cards. However, I just ordered from the English Tea Store using one and it worked just fine. Hope this helps.

The only green tea’s I’ve ordered online have come from Butiki in New York and Verdant in Minnisota. Great Companies and wonderful tea experiences. All other’s I’ve purchased at tea shops in person.

I am decidedly not a green tea buff but I found the gunpowder green from Teavivre to actually be tasty – for me, that’s huge. Not sure if they accept Visa Gift Cards but they do send out free samples on occasion, or at least they had been.
