drank Chocolate Chai by TeaGuys

I really like this one.
I used 2tsp in a 12oz cup, but I didn’t fill it all the way, knowing I’d be adding milk. I steeped for 5 minutes in boiling water.
There is a definite chocolate thing going on here, and the mouth feel almost borders on a coffee thickness (this could be because I used half & half in my tea instead of just milk…. ). Being a chai, I also added raw sugar to this, and it’s delicious.
I’ve had my fair share of chai roobios, and I have to say that this one would be right there in my top faves. The cocoa element is really nice (like real cocoa nibs), and the cardamom rushing to the front is appreciated.
Another great rooibos from Tea Guys. :)

ETA: Second steep is still really yummy. I think I added a little too much sugar (need to remember that for next time), but other than that, I’m really liking this cup. The spices are more subdued in this resteep, but there is still a chocolate flavour happening. I really like this one!
Ok….back to my Ms. Marvel Vol. 1… I read the whole volume today in one sitting, and now I’m rereading it. This comic makes me feel SO EXCITED for the future of comics, as a woman, a mother of two girls, and as a fan of great writing and fantastic artwork. Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel…. man, I really love comics sometimes. :)

I had just enough of this left for one cup, out of the incredibly generous sample that ifjuly sent me in the fall. The smokiness of this tea is absolutely perfect to me. Leather and malty wood, all brewed up in the most glorious colour. I am going to really miss this one.

I’m drinking my last teaspoon of this right now…
I only used 1 tsp for 8oz of water (since that’s all I had left), so I bumped up the temp to 180F and did the first steep for 4 min.
The cup was lighter than what I’m used to from this oolong (as expected, since I used less leaf than usual), with less bitterness and increased sweetness.
The second steep was still 180F, but for 7 minutes this time. The liquor was the exact colour of golden syrup in the jar (my jar was sitting right next to the cup…lol)… so beautiful! The taste was honey with the slightest bit of mineral at the end.
What a lovely cup for my first tea of the day. :)

Butiki Teas

I love this oolong! Glad you are enjoying it! :)

Red Fennekin

Sounds like a delicious cup to start your day with, indeed! :-)

DeliriumsFrogs

It’s so yummy, Stacy! I’ve been thinking about you so much lately. :)

Red, I think I’m going to have some TGY in a bit, after reading your posts… you’ve totally put it in my head. :D

Butiki Teas

I’m so glad! Awwww. Well, I think about you every time I pass by the Doctor Who mixed media piece! I love it so much!

Red Fennekin

Oooh, hahaha – I hope you enjoy it! I just can’t get enough of the stuff recently :-)

Plunkybug

Doctor Who mixed media piece? Have I seen this? If I haven’t, I need to! :P

DeliriumsFrogs

Amariel, you did, I think. :D In fact, I think that’s how we became facebook friends. lol Stacy posted a pic of it on her facebook wall, and then we ‘friended’ each other after ‘meeting’ in the comments of the post. haha
Butiki Teas, you framed it and made it look all respectable. lol That was really, really sweet of you. :D

Plunkybug

Ahhh, yes!!! I remember now! :)

I just put my Black and White Cheesecake in the oven (Dorie Greenspan recipe), and I totally licked all the remaining batter out of both bowls and off of all used utensils…
So, wanting to pull myself out of that sugar coma, but not in an aggressive way, I decided to go for this one… It’s one of those flavoured greens that I always come back to.
Sesame seed, caramel goodness!
I’m a bancha lover, too, so this tea is all around great stuff to me.

LiberTEAS

OK, that sounds totally yum. I’m coming over.

I just finished off the last bit of this that I had….
Knowing I’ll miss it in my cupboard, I’ll have to add it to my ‘restock soon’ list.
While I can’t quite distinguish all the fruit flavours in this (it’s more of a just ‘fruity’ flavour to me), it’s a mixture of fruit that I really do like… nothing too forward or obnoxious in the cup; all just blending really well together.
This morning I added a little bit of milk, which I don’t normally do, and it was exactly what I was looking for, as my daughter and I watched Sailor Moon Crystal. She’s introduced me to Sailor Moon over these last years, since it wasn’t something I watched growing up… and as far as anime goes, I’ve always been a more ‘Rurouni Kenshin’, ‘Cowboy Bebop’, and ‘Trigun’ sort of fan, so it’s been fun watching something with her that I never would on my own. :)

Ordered a sample of this, because of COURSE I had to try the carrot cake….
Again, like the last two Tea Guys’ rooibos (I just googled ‘what is the plural of rooibos, and found that ’the plural of rooibos is rooibos’…. I did not know that.. lol) I tried, I added milk and sugar to this.
This is another really yummy evening treat… I’m not always looking for this type of thing (creamy/sugar tea), but when I am, I really love it.
There are definite ‘carrot cake’ spice notes, along with the vegetal sweetness of carrot…
This one’s a keeper for me, especially as a decaf option.

The creamy spinach of the wet leaf is so great with this tea….
Taste wise, it’s vegetal, but with that light, spun sugar sweetness.
Asparagus and green beans, but fruity at the same time.
Such a delightful cup! :)

I’m not really sure why, but this tea goes amazing well with peanut butter toast in the morning. I discovered this awhile back, and I’ve repeated it ever since…
Maybe it’s because of that slight raisin note… I don’t know, but it just works. :)
I really do love this tea. It’s one I turn to when I’m looking for a no frills sort of cup, but at the same time I feel like that isn’t giving it enough credit, because it has it’s own thing going on. It’s deep and round at the beginning of a sip, ending bright, leaving your mouth feeling refreshed.
I’m going to go eat my peanut butter toast now (and watch the new Sailor Moon, since my daughter and I have fallen quite behind…)

i like this one. its comforting

This is my second rooibos from Tea Guys, and I’ve gotta say, I’m liking their rooibos.
Upon opening the bag, I was hit with a most definite sea salt caramel thing… there are nuggets (mine are round, not square like the picture) of caramel mixed in, and I’m a sucker for that… When I’m going for a flavoured tea, I love when I can SEE a bit of what’s going into that flavour. These aren’t little nuggets, either.. They’re pretty substantial for a tea. It’s great!
I might like this one even better than the bourbon egg nog one last night, because this one isn’t as sweet on it’s own. Being in control of the level of sweetness (if any at all, even), is something I really do appreciate, and this tea totally hands that control over to the sipper.
I know that I could add sugar to this right now and amp up that caramel taste, but I’m enjoying this with a little cream at the moment… The scent is very caramel-y, while the sip is a little more subdued… It’s really nice, actually.
I can see myself craving this as a night-time treat

ETA: halfway through this cup, I added just a sprinkle of raw sugar. Oh, man, is it good! This is a super yummy rooibos, and I’m really glad I grabbed 3oz of this. :)

It’s getting dark, and I’m trying to not fall asleep…
I’m only 2 infusions in, but I figured I’d log this one before I get distracted by making dinner…
3 grams (I think it was 3.4 grams to be exact, on my scale…lol) in my porcelain gaiwan.
15 sec first infusion: caramelized sugar, chocolate, and this really creamy vanilla, that I’m not sure I’ve ever consciously picked up before in this tea! It’s so fantastically delicious. As I was sipping, my youngest asked me what tea I was making, because it really smelled like the ‘chocolate’ one… She notices the chocolate scent every time I make this tea.

There was a break between infusions, because my middle child realized they were out of underwear…..‘cause somehow you JUST realize you’re out of underwear. So, I threw in some laundry and infused for 25 seconds.
This cup was pure, fabulous chocolate (which is making me think of OMGsrsly, and how this quality that I find so intoxicating, is in fact ‘dirt’ to her… and I love that about people, and how we all taste things differently…).
A little sweet potato is present now, along with a bit of walnut. That creamy vanilla from the first cup has turned into a butterscotch custard, becoming more structured and less ethereal.
The layers of flavour in this tea always amaze me….

I’m sure I’ll be drinking this for hours.. but I have to walk away from my computer now, so that’s all I’ll log. :)

Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Butterscotch, Caramel, Chocolate, Cocoa, Custard, Sweet Potatoes, Vanilla, Walnut

Everyone makes this tea sound sooooooo good – I have a sample of it coming with my most recent Verdant order and I just can’t wait to try it! :D

DeliriumsFrogs

Ooh! I hope that you like it! I love it Western style, too…
Can’t wait to read what you think about it! :)

OMGsrsly

I’m cackling here. But you know what? Me thinking it tastes like dirt means there’s more for you. :)

ohfancythat

I’ve never tried it gongfu style before, but I really should. Maybe I should get myself a gaiwan. Like I’m not a real tea drinker until I have one

DeliriumsFrogs

OMGSrsly, I just kept thinking about you each time that chocolate note would hit my nose… haha! It really is so interesting to me, like how some people love cilantro and other people can not stand it.

whatshesaid, a gaiwan is really interesting. It takes all the flavours you get in a western brewed cup and sort of breaks them down into ‘scenes’… I love tea both ways, but if you’re on the fence about finding a gaiwan, I say buy one! It’s such a neat experience, drinking tea in short infusions.
I’m not all fancy, either, I just infuse in my gaiwan, and then pour it into a english style teacup and drink out of that. I don’t have the pitchers or extra accessories (although, I do find myself thinking it would be really nice to have them… ;) )

ohfancythat

Ok, it’s officially on my Tea-Do List :)

OMGsrsly

Yeah, I also don’t really care for cilantro. :) Maybe it’s related!

ohfancythat

i LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE cilantro :) :)

Oh, tea….
you’ve taken over my life, but I’m ok with that.

I’m pretty new to the tea scene, only drinking tea bags most of my life, but my friend ifjuly really got me into it (that sounds bad…). Butiki, Harney, and Verdant seem to be my ‘go to’ places to order from, but I LOVE trying new teas and companies. The variety is partly why I love tea so much…you can’t possibly get sick of it.
Well, that, and the transporting aroma of each cup…. I love that. It’s why I love wine, and tea does it just was well.

Really want to learn about different tea vendors out there, and about tea in general… it’s all so interesting to me.
I’m really excited to be part of this community and learn from all of you.

I don’t usually sweeten or add milk to my teas, so my notes are based on that….also, the rating system kind of throws me—I’ve always been horrible with giving number ratings to things, so don’t take those as set in stone (Honestly, I usually don’t even use the numbers…).

Everything in my cupboard has at least one serving left in it…I try to keep it updated. :) (I actually just added all my sample sizes to my cupboard, so MOST of the tea in my cupboard is of that ‘sample’ size…)

random info: music and art are pretty important in my life… i also thoroughly enjoy nerdy things like video games, anime, knitting, Doctor Who (the 10th is my favourite…), A Song of Ice and Fire, and random cartoons and such…. and i love, love, love to read. :)

I’m married to my best friend (I’ve known him since I was 15….we were totally going to be in a band together. It was going to be HUGE…), and we’ve got three kiddos. They’re pretty neat, too, even if they try to put sugar in my Verdant tea when they drink it….
