149 Tasting Notes

Thank you so much Stacy for including this as an ‘extra’ with my last order! :))))
This is one really enjoyable green. I was actually surprised at how much it reminded me of a Bancha (Harney & Son’s, in particular)… with that vegetal warmth, along with a slight bite at the end. I was very careful in steeping this, since the instructions indicated that oversteeping would cause bitterness. I didn’t detect any bitterness with this tea; there was a slight astringency, but the pleasant kind you want from a green like this.
My first cup was enjoyed while cooking, the second cup with my dinner. With or without food, this is one really wonderful green!

I held off trying this one, because after smelling the bag, I knew I’d love it….and loving a tea I can’t ever get again brings on some complicated feels. lol
After trying to clean the mess that is my home (really, it’s an insurmountable task…), I thought I’d take a break and try the TEA I have been waiting for…
And, yup.
It’s the lime tea of my dreams.
It’s creamy, and limey, and this mixture of intense lime scent with an ethereal quality that really does it for me. This is one phenomenal tea.
I’m a person that’s favourite cookie is powdered sugar dusted lime meltaways… so, this tea is really my holy grail. But, I’m Indian Jones, and I’ve found it! (…without all that Indiana Jones macho imperialistic stuff I only noticed as an adult… lol).
Oh, this tea…. THIS TEA!!!!

Plunkybug

I was so close to getting this one.

Plunkybug

Yay! Thank you for sharing this with me…I love it!

I’m sort of stuck by my window today, waiting for Fedex to arrive. It’s a big delivery, and I’m pretty sure they won’t just leave it if I don’t open the door as soon as their truck stops in front of my house…. Soooo, I have not showered, or had much of life today, but, since it’s really not that big of a deal and a total ‘first world problem’, I’m not letting myself feel annoyed by it at all. Who needs showers anyway?
So, onto the tea…
With a tea like this, there is no need for a treat to go along with it; the treat is entirely in my cup. This is one of those ‘Willy Wonka’ type creations, where you swear you are getting a full bite of something scrumptious, but it’s just a liquid, running smoothly down your throat. How does Stacy do this!? :D
It’s nutty and jammy and powder sugar dusted and just plain yummy… and I didn’t have to add a single thing to this cup.
This tea is wayyy better than shampooing my hair. ;)

Flavors: Blackberry, Jam, Nuts, Pastries, Plum, Powdered Sugar

ohfancythat

Eeeeeven if you were washing your hair with HERBAL ESSENCES?!

Greg_2tea

So key is having ‘herbal’ essence in a roll up too ;)

I am in love with this cup of tea…
Going against my original intentions, I added a splash of cream and about 1/8tsp of raw sugar… Not that it needed it; I just was in the ‘oh, what the heck, go all out with this one!", frame of mind….
The scent of this in its bag is the perfect citrus cream mix, to me… It’s incredible. Steeped, the cream falls a little bit to the back, making room for the base to shine.
Really, this would be a ‘keep stocked at all times’ tea for me….

Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Citrus, Cream, Grapefruit

It’s freezing, and I just got back from grocery shopping. Even though I don’t normally have caffeine at night, I really wanted to have one of my Butiki Teas out of my final Butiki order box (It’s still sitting on my table, because I don’t want to completely put everything away….it feels more special taking them out of the box each time. ha!).
This tea is fantastic. I absolutely love the coffee note with the pumpkin. I’m thinking this is my favourite pumpkin tea, honestly. So, the search is over for my #1 pumpkin, but I won’t be able to ever restock it. That’s sad….but it makes this little pouch of tea sooooo special. I will be hoarding this one. lol
I’m on my second steep right now, and the cup tastes just as good as the first.
I love this tea!! :)))

Plunkybug

I had been kind of curious about the coffee plus pumpkin…though then I thought about all the pumpkins spice lattes, so it must be good together. Ha ha!

ohfancythat

i love this one too :)
I bought so much, haha.

DeliriumsFrogs

Oh yeah, Amariel! It goes so well together…
It’s funny, because I passed a starbucks on the way home from the grocery store, almost wanting to stop for a coffee, but knowing they closed in a few minutes. I totally got my coffee fix with this tea, but it was even BETTER than a coffee fix. :D
Whatshesaid, I wish I bought more!! lol

Plunkybug

Now I wish I had gotten some, though I think CrowKettle might have, so I might get to try it.

After shoveling some more this morning (will this ever end!?!?!), I decided to go for this one… the scent of the marmalade in the bag was so inviting!
I’m not a huge orange flavouring person, but this tea is absolutely perfect. The marmalade is so natural and real, and the pistachio notes are simply lovely. I adore the base for this, finding it to go so well with the flavour profile.
This tea is another example of why I love Stacy’s teas so much… it completely succeeds in delivering the flavours of its name, while avoiding any artificial feeling.
So very delicious! (now I’m going to go hide under a blanket with my book, while I sip the second steep of this…. :) )

Plunkybug

YAY! I’m glad you like it!

First of all, this is one pretty tea, dry leaf and after steeping. If I wasn’t rushing around trying to clean my house today (only stopping for tea…because one must stop for tea…), I would’ve taken some photos of it for myself. I’ll have to do that next time I drink it. :)
It smells just like its name, which made me have to force myself to stop sniffing the bag and actually get to making the tea.
I love how light the liquor is… it goes right along with the delicate nature of this tea, because to me, it is delicate, and I love that. The aroma as I sip is so lovely…
Yup. This is a tea for me. :))

(and…thank goodness Stacy included two little tea tins as extras, because I managed to drop my bag of this into my dog’s water dish!!! I almost started crying, until I realized the bag had sealed itself completely, and I hadn’t lost ANY tea… I was able to transfer the contents right into the tea tin and breathe a sigh of relief…. I swear, I am the clumsiest person.)

Flavors: Floral, Nutty, Pastries, Raspberry

ifjuly

phew, good save! though i must admit it’s a little amusing imagining Shelby becoming a tea connoisseur ;)

DeliriumsFrogs

She likes coffee grounds that get dropped on the floor (if I’m really tired, I miss the garbage bin and make a mess…lol), so I’m sure she’d eat my tea… But, OMG, if that had happened with this, I think I would’ve been inconsolable. haha
(I MISSED YOU, PROFESSOR LAYTON!!!)

Butiki Teas

Is your dog’s name Shelby? I named my parents dog Shelby.

DeliriumsFrogs

Yes. Her name is Shelby. :) She’s a pit mix…but really such a mix of things that she’s more of a mutt. lol

Butiki Teas

That’s so awesome! I love pits. They are so sweet. I named my parent’s Sheltie, Shelby. He just seemed like a Shelby. :)

DeliriumsFrogs

Awww! Shelties are so adorable!! :)))

Butiki Teas

They are so cute and they know it. The second you break out a camera, they start posing.

DeliriumsFrogs

Oh my gosh… I can imagine the ‘head tilt’ dog face! ahhhh!!

Butiki Teas

For sure and every year my dad goes and gets Shelby to take a picture with Santa. He always looks so adorable. Too bad pics of me never come out that good.

DeliriumsFrogs

!!!! I just melted into a puddle. haha! That’s so sweet that your dad does that!

Butiki Teas

It’s super cute. He even has a Christmas scarf. :)

DeliriumsFrogs

You are killing me here! lol…. Seriously, I don’t think it can GET any cuter. lol (I was telling my family about your Dad’s Shelby over our breakfast this morning… haha)

Oh. My. Goodness. This tea is the best morning tea I have had… it’s perfect. Just enough of a kick to warrant a touch of cream, making this one killer cup of tea.
I’ve steeped this 3 times already, and I completely plan on going in for a 4th. It’s fantastic!!
It’s malty and complex, so different from what I expect to taste in a ctc.
I never got to try the Crimson Horizon on its own, but that’s ok…because this is utterly fabulous.
My Butiki box arrived today with my final teas….and it’s this combination of exultant joy (Stacy is the BEST! my box is amazing….), and a tinge of sadness…. But I’m not going to harp on that sadness, because this box of tea has made my snowed-in self sooooooo very happy. :)))
Yes. I recommend this tea. It’s glorious! :D

Flavors: Caramel, Malt, Nutty

Plunkybug

Gah, now I really do wish I had gotten this one too.

ifjuly

i love this one too and am bummed there’s no way to restock. when i got it, it pretty much became my first-thing-out-of-bed tea until i used up the entire bag, because you’re so right, it’s perfect for that. and yeah, i love that it resteeps so well (which is kind of surprising given it’s CTC). it also amuses me how it reminds me of grape nuts. (:

DeliriumsFrogs

HAHAHA!!! I totally thought ‘grape nuts’, too!!
Yeah, the resteeping value of this is wonderful (I did the same with the grapefruit creme brulee… the base just gives and gives.. i love it). It’s gonna be a sad day when this one’s gone.

Rummaging through my tea cupboard, I found a single teaspoon of this left that I must’ve hoarded away! Ifjuly sent this to me in one of her lovely packages (she’s one of my favourite people on the planet). I can not believe that I have this to drink today!!!!! EEEEEEEK!!!
This has to be my favourite white tea I have ever tried… It’s buttery and nutty and so very wonderful!
I get pistachio notes along with cream…and the mouthfeel.. Oh, the mouthfeel! It’s fabulous.
So, after finding this tea, I don’t care that the snow is now higher than my neck outside my window (my nice neighbor came through with his snow blower and did my walkway… I think he does this more for the postal worker than for actual neighborly kindness, but it’s still very much appreciated—-so that the postal worker can walk a straight path for a row of houses and not have to keep walking up and down driveways and sidewalks… for clarification. lol).
Anyway, this tea is one of my favourites, and I’m over the moon that I’m sipping it right now!

I chose this especially because the snow is piled halfway up my dining room window…. I’m going to pretend that it’s April in Paris right now (or, at least in my tea cup).
This came from MissB, and I can’t thank her enough for her generosity… She’s really one of the loveliest people, and I’m thinking of her while I sip away….pretending that it’s not winter anymore.
This one is fruity and floral…reminds me a bit of Harney’s Paris, but not as fruity… I really do like how the floral notes are balanced with the fruit; to me, it all works out really well.
My second steep had the addition of a bit of cream, and it was really fantastic… I sat by a window, under 3 blankets, and enjoyed that cup til the last drop.
I haven’t been drinking too many flavoured teas lately, so this was a fun change of pace. Thanks, MissB, for my perfect tea time! :)

Bio

Oh, tea….
you’ve taken over my life, but I’m ok with that.

I’m pretty new to the tea scene, only drinking tea bags most of my life, but my friend ifjuly really got me into it (that sounds bad…). Butiki, Harney, and Verdant seem to be my ‘go to’ places to order from, but I LOVE trying new teas and companies. The variety is partly why I love tea so much…you can’t possibly get sick of it.
Well, that, and the transporting aroma of each cup…. I love that. It’s why I love wine, and tea does it just was well.

Really want to learn about different tea vendors out there, and about tea in general… it’s all so interesting to me.
I’m really excited to be part of this community and learn from all of you.

I don’t usually sweeten or add milk to my teas, so my notes are based on that….also, the rating system kind of throws me—I’ve always been horrible with giving number ratings to things, so don’t take those as set in stone (Honestly, I usually don’t even use the numbers…).

Everything in my cupboard has at least one serving left in it…I try to keep it updated. :) (I actually just added all my sample sizes to my cupboard, so MOST of the tea in my cupboard is of that ‘sample’ size…)

random info: music and art are pretty important in my life… i also thoroughly enjoy nerdy things like video games, anime, knitting, Doctor Who (the 10th is my favourite…), A Song of Ice and Fire, and random cartoons and such…. and i love, love, love to read. :)

I’m married to my best friend (I’ve known him since I was 15….we were totally going to be in a band together. It was going to be HUGE…), and we’ve got three kiddos. They’re pretty neat, too, even if they try to put sugar in my Verdant tea when they drink it….
