drank Cranberry Tea by Teanzo 1856

Day 17 of Teanzo’s Advent Calendar … I enjoyed this tea!

The dry leaf is pretty. There are lots of red petals (safflower) and big chunks of dried cranberry.

I think that the reason this tea was such a win for me is that it wasn’t overly tart. The first few sips were surprisingly sweet, actually! As I continue to sip, the tartness does come through but it’s not an overwhelming tartness – which for me is a good thing because I’m not a fan of tart.

The start is jammy, sweet and pleasant. Mid-sip, I pick up on some of the tart notes of cranberry, but not so tart that I pucker. A hint of berry tingle in the aftertaste. The black tea is smooth. Not bitter and very little astringency. I like the way the black tea complements the berry here.

A pleasant tea experience. Here’s my full-length review: http://sororiteasisters.com/2014/12/17/24-days-of-tea-holiday-countdown-day-17-from-teanzo-1856/

drank Seasonal Relief by Teanzo 1856
4843 tasting notes

Backlog:

Teanzo’s Advent Calendar, Day 16 … did not like this. I suffer from allergies, so I’m always open to a tasty seasonal allergy relief type of tea/tisane, but this isn’t very tasty. I certainly couldn’t drink this on a daily basis because I couldn’t finish the one cup I had of it.

The cons: a) The eucalyptus. Not a fan of how strong a flavor this presented, and when combined with the licorice, the flavor ended up tasting like vaporub to me.

This is the only real “con” of this tea, but it was enough of a con to turn me off on it, unfortunately.

There are some pros to this tea: a) The hibiscus is not a heavy presence. For those of you who aren’t a fan of hibiscus (like me), and you like the taste of eucalyptus, you might enjoy this. b) the peppermint and licorice were enjoyable in the first few sips, until the eucalyptus caught up with the palate. Once the eucalyptus arrived to the party, it was all over for me.

That said, given that this is day 16’s tea, and after having tried 16 teas, I’ve only found one that really just was not for me, I’d say that so far, this Advent Calendar (and Teanzo Tea) is a big time win for me.

drank Simply Rooibos by Teanzo 1856

Backlog:

Day 15 in my Advent Calendar from Teanzo. I wasn’t all that excited about a plain rooibos offering but I was happy to find that it was an organic rooibos – organic does taste better than conventionally grown.

Sweet, honey notes, nutty notes, woodsy. For an unflavored rooibos, it doesn’t get much better than a good, organic offering like this.

Day 14 with my Advent Calendar adventure with Teanzo. I’m glad that this tea was part of the Advent Calendar because it was one I was hoping that I’d get to try from Teanzo.

A really delightfully sweet Assam. Really good. I know that thelastdodo didn’t have a positive experience with this tea, but, I enjoyed it.

Backlog:

Day 13 from Teanzo’s Advent Calendar. I liked this one! I’m a fan of some of Teanzo’s herbal offerings, this one included.

First off, you gotta love that there’s no hibisicus in it. Right? (Well, I love that!)

I also love that it’s a tulsi blend.

The ginger and the tulsi add a nice warmth to this. It’s a little spicy, but not too much. I like the combination of the spice and the citrus. The citrus is my favorite part of this blend because it’s so bright and invigorating.

If you’re looking for some caffeine free alternatives for later at night, I urge you to look at Teanzo’s offerings. I like that there are some really tasty ones that are hibiscus free as well as caffeine free!

drank Bergamot Earl Grey by Teanzo 1856

Backlog:

Hey, sorry I got sort of behind on my Advent Calendar postings, there was some family business that needed tending to so I found my time limited on the computer.

Anyway … this is one of my favorites of the Advent Calendar thus far! This is Day 12’s tea.

The bergamot is good and strong – just the way it should be. I like that it’s strong without tasting perfume-y. I love that it’s organic.

The bergamot is tangy and bright. The bergamot is strong but the black tea base is also strong so it can support the strength of the bergamot and not disappear behind it. Nor does it allow the bergamot to take over and taste like your uncle’s aftershave.

Here’s my full-length review of this tea, which includes a photo of my holiday wreath that I made a few years ago using some really cool ragamuffin yarn: http://sororiteasisters.com/2014/12/12/24-days-of-tea-holiday-countdown-day-12-from-teanzo-1856/

Teanzo’s Advent Calendar Day 17:
Whomp Whomp Waaah. I was hoping for a juicer tart berry flavor and I was let down. Perhaps plain dried cranberries was not the way to go with this blend. I drank this tea and felt disappointed. I think that this was just a phone in blend by the ladies at Teanzo. This blend tasted as rushed as it was perhaps created.

Teanzo’s Advent Calendar Day 16:
Do you ever eat or drink something you know is super good for you, even if the taste/texture repulses you? I will call it the ‘good for you’ flavor in this review. Yes, this tea definitely tastes like it will whip you into shape and flip you over and turn you right again. Although I am not feeling under the weather in any way, I feel like this tea would definitely help me mentally, if not physically, feel better if I were.
When I saw the H-word in the ingredient list (hibiscus) I became weary of this blend. I think I am permanently scarred from “Herbal Spa Blend” day. But surprisingly, the flavor and color of the hibiscus is quite faint. I actually liked this blend, if only for the ‘good for you’ quality.

Flavors: Cannabis, Herbs, Honey, Hops, Mint

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 12 OZ / 354 ML

Maybe it is because I drink so much tea, that I hardly ever feel under the weather? Hmmm…

Teanzo’s Advent Calendar Day 15:
Wow, I can’t believe I have never had straight up Rooibos before! This was a great, fresh tasting tea. It’s a lot sweeter than I had anticipated. It was like drinking liquid honey, caramel and vanilla. I can see why this is the choice blend for so many dessert teas. I love learning new things when I drink tea :)

Teanzo’s Advent Calendar Day 14:
I really don’t think I can accurately give a rating for this tea. The cups that I brewed for myself was flat and dusty. It had a one note quality to it. I just must have gotten a bad sample or something, because all this tea tasted was old. Too bad!

Teanzo’s Advent Calendar, Day 13:
This is the second unveiling of a new ‘spa blend’ herbal tea by Teanzo. So far, they are two for two. While dream spa blend was floral and spicy, like a classic perfume, this is the younger sister of that tea. When I stuck my nose into the coppery foil packet, I instantly smelled orange creamsicle. The citrus peels and hunks of lemongrass were large, and the gingery spice is harmonizing with the herbaceous tulsi.
The brew of this tea was very successful. The orange creamsicle element is still there, but with a more herbaceous note. The liquor is more lemony and ginger than the dry nose.
Once again I am sold on another one of their spa blends!

Teanzo 1856 Advent Calendar Day 12 – Aaack! So much freaking bergamot in this tea! When I saw what the tea was for today, I immediately thought, “well, doesn’t an earl grey have to have bergamot in it be considered an earl grey?” Then, taking my first sips, I got my answer. This is so overwhelmingly bergamot. Don’t get me wrong, one of the first earl grey teas I have ever had and really liked was Stash’s double-bergamot earl grey. I know I am comparing apples to oranges, but wow. I am not one to waste tea, so I ended up adding cream and sugar to this to mellow it out. Phew. I think I will pass on the resteep, thanks

drank Chamomile by Teanzo 1856
296 tasting notes

Teanzo 1856’s Advent Calendar, Day 11
What can I say? Everyone who has ever made a Steepster account has had chamomile at some point in their lives. What I do like about this tea is that it is organic and the size of the flowers are large and in charge. If I am going to have an herbal staple like a chamomile or a peppermint in my cupboard, I do feel better knowing that is organic.

drank Organic Chamomile by Teanzo 1856

This is Teanzo’s Day 11 tea from their Advent Calendar. At first, I was like, Oh … yay (cue sarcasm) another Chamomile tea but this was actually quite lovely. It’s very soothing (especially on the scratchy throat. The remnants of my cold from earlier this week) and this is a really good quality Chamomile. Great big, whole blossoms and very little broken pieces or dust.

The 10th day of this advent calendar from Teanzo! And this is the tea we get for today.

I really loved this. I wouldn’t really call it a “chai” exactly, because a) there really are only two spices that I’d associate with a chai, and b) the spices aren’t really strong enough for me to think “chai.” If I were to taste this blindly, without knowing it was called a coconut chai, I wouldn’t have guessed it was a chai by the flavor.

I would have guessed it was a spiced coconut tea.

And as a spiced coconut tea, this is really delicious! The black tea is a prominent flavor (always a good sign in a tea blend) and the coconut is a strong presence too. The cinnamon and ginger add warmth but not a lot of zing to it. It’s more like a yummy baked good that’s been lovingly prepared with just the right amount of spice.

It’s really yummy. I liked this a lot. This is one that I’d happily drink again and again.

Teanzo Advent Calendar, Day 10!
There was a time when I did not like coconut as a flavor, or as an ingredient at all. I was blinded by the horrible texture of Almond Joys and Mounds and sugary, gritty, coconut shreds my mother ate by the mouthful. All that changed when my grandmother made her sweet sticky rice pudding with a can of coconut milk instead of regular milk because she had ran out without realizing it. To this day, Christmas is nothing without that sweet, cinnamon-y confection. I can taste that cinnamon-coconut sticky rice in this tea. I have come to love coconut in all of it’s forms and this is the first time I have had a coconut chai. My only regret is that it was not nearly as powerful as a chai.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Coconut, Ginger

Ohhhh! That rice pudding sounds so good. I’ll have to try it with coconut milk next time I make some.

Fresh mango is also an excellent addition as well!

drank Dream Spa Blend by Teanzo 1856

This is the day 9 tea from Teanzo’s Advent Calendar. I love the aroma of this tea. It’s truly dreamy. I loved it so much that I contacted someone who makes soaps and told her of the ingredients and told her that she should attempt to recapture the fragrance for her soap. I would love to bathe in this scent.

I also enjoyed the flavor. There is no hibiscus. Let me say that again for those who may have missed it: THERE IS NO HIBISCUS! Yay! I also like the licorice-y notes of this, and I love cardamom and ginger. The rose is absolutely lovely. The cinnamon doesn’t overpower. It’s just a really well thought out tisane with NO HIBISCUS. It’s got a lovely flavor.

Lightly citrusy, warm spices, beautifully floral. I like the slight notes of cola from the cardamom and the way they play with the licorice notes.

A really lovely blend, here’s my full-length article: http://sororiteasisters.com/2014/12/09/24-days-of-tea-holiday-countdown-day-9-from-teanzo-1856/

If that soap ever gets made, I want a big ’ole hunk of it!

LiberTEAS

I’ll be sure to let you know. I swear, after I finished brewing this tea, I just wanted to crawl into my teacup. It smelled so good. One of the very best smelling teas/tisanes ever.

Day 9 of Teanzo’s Advent Calendar!
I quite like the combination of cardamom and rose. adding other spices to this blend made it more complex than I had anticipated. The licorice root adds a touch of natural sweetness than could have easily overpowered everything else if I had not been paying attention to my steep times. This would be a perfect after dinner tisane just for the fennel. I used to eat candied ginger and sugar coated fennel to ease nausea, and i am sure that this blend of not-quite-herbal-chai would definitely help those who have an upset stomach. I did indeed like this blend much more than their herbal spa, and not just because it had no hibiscus in it this time!

drank Acai Berry by Teanzo 1856
296 tasting notes

Day 8 of Teanzo’s Advent calendar:
I liked this green tea quite a bit. I read the back of the package last night and got excited. Acai berries are one of my personal favorite flavors. I use Sambazon’s frozen acai smoothie packs in my green smoothies as often as I can stand. It’s really one of the few ‘superfoods’ with a flavor that I doesn’t make me gag. (Don’t get me started on the time when I thought it would be a good idea to ‘lick’ some spirulina off my fingers….)
As for this flavored sencha, I don’t get too much authentic acai flavor. it is closer to a grape or a blueberry. With that aside, I rather enjoyed the taste regardless. It is a refreshing change to the past two days of traditional flavors. It’s bright, fresh, and fun to drink. Kinda reminded me of drinking juice, in a way.

drank Acai Berry by Teanzo 1856

This is the tea for day eight – which happens to be today!

This is a nice blend, there is a pleasing contrast between sweet and tart. The sweet flavors of the green tea contrast with the tartness of the acai berry. I liked this one hot, but I liked it even better as it cooled, so I resteeped the leaves and let the tea cool so that I could have a tasty glass of iced tea. The resteep tastes just as good as the first infusion and the iced tea was very refreshing.

drank Moroccan Mint by Teanzo 1856

Backlog:

This is the tea from Day 7 of the advent calendar from Teanzo.

Here’s my full-length review (which includes a photo of an ornament I made out of a burned out lightbulb a few years ago): http://sororiteasisters.com/2014/12/07/24-days-of-tea-holiday-countdown-day-7-from-teanzo-1856/

I was happy to find a minty tea like this in the box – and especially happy to find that this Moroccan Mint tea is a gunpowder base. Maybe it’s because my first Moroccan Mint tea was a green gunpowder base that I think that all Moroccan Mint teas should be like that, but it would seem that “Moroccan Mint” is a name that any minty tea can use, even if it’s a straight, 100% mint tisane. shrug

Anyway, I like the balance of flavors here – the mint isn’t overdone. It doesn’t have a strong, overwhelming toothpaste-y or mouthwash-y taste to it. I like that I taste the green tea prominently and the mint is an accenting flavor and doesn’t get in the way of the complexity of the gunpowder.

This one resteeps well too.

Teanzo 1856 Advent Calendar day 7 –
A week into my first advent calendar, yay! This is quite a refreshing tea. I think Gunpowder was a great choice for this blend. The hardiness could not be drowned out by the ever powerful peppermint. I had this iced today, and I was pleasantly pleased by how it turned out. I used 20 oz. of cold water and the whole sachet of loose leaf, leaving it to steep overnight for about a total of 6 hours. The resulting brew was non-tannic, balanced and naturally sweet. This would be a great summer iced tea!

drank Darjeeling by Teanzo 1856
4843 tasting notes

This is the tea for Day 6 in the Tea Advent Calendar from Teanzo.

After Day 5’s spa blend that was mostly hibiscus, I was happy to have a Darjeeling tea to enjoy! It’s a really enjoyable Darjeeling, it has that crisp, invigorating taste that I expect from a Darjeeling. Notes of grape/muscatel. These notes start off more like a wine-like flavor with notes of black currant and then morph into more of the muscat grape note. The finish is sweet and slightly dry.

I found myself really enjoying this tea more as it cools. Normally, I want to enjoy a Darjeeling hot but I had to step away from my cup for a while and the texture begins to “thicken” somewhat as it cools, making it a much smoother and richer mouthfeel.

If you want a good Darjeeling to serve iced – this is it! This is great cold!
