I saved my first flower in the fridge so I could do a second steep. I tried it at 8 minutes and the flavor was a very delicate jasmine.

At 14 minutes I poured a full cup. The liquor was a pale gold with a delicate jasmine flavor.

At 35 minutes the liquor was a bright gold and the flavor was about the same strength as that of the 18 minute infusion from the first steep.

So, yesterday my Woot.com order came with my glass teapot and 39 flowering teas…I am stocked on flowering teas for the next year+ now I think. The real reason I ordered this was so I could get the full experience with the Dragon Balls from Doulton but I decided it couldn’t hurt to try it out first.

I decided on the green tea with jasmine and picked one pretty much at random. I only poured in enough water to fill the pot 2/3 of the way since I really didn’t feel like drinking 40oz of liquid all by myself. I must say, I’m not sure which was more fun, watching the flower unfold or watching my son watch the flower unfold! He was quite torn between watching the tea and helping Grampy cook breakfast.

About 5 minutes in I poured my first cup. The liquor was a pale yellow-peach with a light, pleasant jasmine flavor, comparable to Stash’s Monkey King Jasmine in strength.

At 18 minutes I poured another cup. This time the liquor was a bright peach-apricot color with a slightly stronger jasmine flavor.

The liquor kept getting darker the longer it steeped (up to a deep red-amber) but I couldn’t detect any bitterness up until the tea had steeped about 45 minutes. At which point the level of liquid was down enough that it just fit in one of my mugs.

This even tastes quite pleasant when it’s cold (I forgot about my mug sitting beside me on the shelf =o= )

Can you tell I’m ready for spring? :-)

Jasmine green, light floral scent, light and lovely on the eyes. I think this one is especially pretty.

drank London Fog by Primula Tea

It’s a rainy day here but this London Fog is making my day brighter. I need a light tea after yesterday’s caffeine overload, so this is perfect. I’m also home from work, so I can enjoy the bloom while I am doing laundry and catching up on stuff. It’s beautiful, lightly scented, and tasty. I am biased though, there are very few jasmine greens that can do wrong in my book.

Received this and other Primula teas for holidays. I love the look of the blooming teas, but have yet to find one that competes in taste.

I did try one blooming tea that I thought was fairly amazing – called Heart of the Dragon – but I’m not sure what company, if any, it came from. A local tea shop carried it for a while. They purchased all their teas during trips to Asia and also had family there that sent them tea. Heart of the Dragon blooming tea was hand-tied also and, when it opened, the tea leaves spread out like talons and a red rose bud could be seen in the middle. The rose looked just like a heart – and not the cartoon-type, either.

Beautiful bloom; Mediocre green tea. Tastes like their Camellia Joy.

TeaEqualsBliss

I remembered over steeping this…it was pretty mellow until I over infused…

I love watching blooming teas, but I have yet to find one that tastes great. This was no exception. It’s a mediocre green tea with hints of jasmine and chrysanthemum flavor. At least it was pretty.

Angrboda

That’s my usual experience with flowering teas too. They’re so pretty that I’m expecting something earth-shatteringly awesome. And then I just get ordinary green tea. I always get a little disappointed.

Rebecca White

Have you tried the teavana ones? I’ve heard some good things about the new peach one, but it’s so freaking expensive!

Angrboda

No, I’m from Denmark, so Teavana (and most US based tea webshops) are more or less off limits for me. Either they don’t ship to Europe or if they do it would be way too expensive with shipping and customs and VAT and such like.

Like others have mentioned, I have had trouble with the bloom opening into a weird shape with some of the Primula Flowering teas. This bloom opened nicely and looks beautiful in my glass teapot. It creates a nice light tea.

I oversteeped and the beautiful little red flowers lost their color! :-( And the tea has a little bit of that astringent taste to it. But jasmine green tea is a standard for me, so I know it normally tastes lovely! Still, a very nice jasmine aroma, and light on taste, not so much green flavored, more jasmine flavored. My younger son said it smelled like candy, but not great candy. :-)

Eventho this is one of the prettier looking blooms from Primula and it does keep intact the taste is rather odd. It’s a jasmine green tea with almost a hint of oat meal taste. It’s a drier type taste and almost gritty. The ole ’don’t judge a flowering tea by it’s bloom’, I’m afraid.

Peggie Bennett

I have a package of assorted Primula blooming teas, perhaps the same as yours, the names sound familiar. Reading these reviews from you are almost a spoiler alert for me! :-)

TeaEqualsBliss

It very well may be! :P Does it have a green pull string ribbon on the brown tube thing!? I do like most of them tho! LOL

Peggie Bennett

It does! And Jasmine Green is probably an all time fave for me. Yummy green, and lovely aroma. Watching it bloom is just the icing on the cupcake!

This tea smells like Florida at dusk, if you’re sitting by the ocean, and just able to taste a bit of the salt off of your lips. In taste, though, it is very light and floral, and the contrast is really pleasant in combination. Has the coloring of a light oolong, smells like green tea, and tastes like jasmine. Definitely more steeps to come!

Great description Sam, this definetly creates a visual for me.

My darling Becky bought me a glass teapot for Christmas (early) along with a sampler of Primula teas! This was the first one we tried.

Very light coloring, and I was worried about that. The first steep was too weak, the second was too strong, and hopefully I’m getting it right this time. The jasmine seems to soften the green tea, which I appreciate, but it leaves my mouth dry, which I did not get on the first steep (then it seemed a little more buttery). I can taste the flower(s), but they don’t seem very particular, something like chrysanthemum. Light and yummy enough, but I feel like there’s some quality that reminds me of how dirty fog is tainting this. My guess is the tea may have been sitting too long on a shelf. Also, unpleasant fuzzy residue in my mug from this tea. Whut.

2nd and 3rd infusions are pretty good. Still semi-sweet. Steeped for 30 and 35 mins…coloring about the same. Not bitter.

Sure it’s Jasmine and green tea scent and taste…but this one has the coloring of an oolong once steeped/bloomed. Will be doing multiple infusions with this one just because. A nice tea.

steepedintruth: I think you may have had a poorly steeped tea. I did in fact taste the peach flavor.

Steeped 3 minutes…not enough…so I am waiting another 2 minutes…this Primula Bloom looked different prior to blooming compared to the others I have tried from them so far. This one was more narrow and a tad longer prior to the bloom. OK…after it finally bloomed I must say it is one of the most wonderful blooms I have seen so far!!! No scent, however. The color is that of a dark green looking or a light oolong looking color. The taste is much more pleasant than the Floral Passion…Thank God! It’s floral but a little sweet for a nice blend of the two. It’s on the lighter side and NOT Bitter. I like it eventho it’s not very strong.

Okay…3 strikes you’re out. I really wanted to like you but you taste like pure flowers and grass. It’s like eating a weed/flower…sorry. It’s just not for me.

Jillian

Some teas make me think they were designed to appeal to farm animals instead of people, they’re so grass-like. XD

Okay. My 2nd attempt. I should have known…the flower didn’t totally bloom yet so I steeped longer and hotter. The color really came out this time – a very dark coloring of brown/red/orange. Still next to no scent. It’s smells a little brothy – like a veggie broth almost. The taste is very earthy/floral. Not sure if I like it but it’s a sure step up from my first attempt so I will up the rating number.

My first attempt was really unfortunate but I truly believe the this has more potential so I am going to try it again. First attempt…no color, no scent, no taste. MUST have understeeped

Colored more like a white tea this was light and floral and airy to the nose. The bloom somewhat went loose while steeping and the flower dangled from the rest of the bloom but I am not one to pre-judge. The taste is more sweet than jasmine or green or other floral-types that I have tried from this brand. It’s an ok tea…yummy and light. It’s alright.

I’ve been freaking out office mates all day with this flowering tea in a glass mug. It looks a little Star Trek, it’s green tea tentacles undulating in the cup, like it could climb out and suck your brain. That’s one way to look at it I guess. It’s decent green tea with a rosy jasmine scent, too.

Jillian

ROFL! That’s an awesome description – It’s alive….ALLLIIIIIVE! XD

This didn’t have any smell and hardly any taste. I even over steeped and tried a 2nd steep. The bloom was pretty but not much else. Tasted like hot water and that’s that.

Jillian

That’s so disappointing, and it looks so pretty too.

Angrboda

That picture looks a lot like the Duan Wu Jie i had! I wonder if it’s the same thing. I came to pretty much the same ‘all show, no flavour’ conclusion.

Light on the Jasmine Scent – the color of an oolong-like tea…this flowering beauty is a gentle and sweet friend. It’s green but it’s on the sweeter side. Thirst Quenching. I like it!

This is a wonderful Flowering/blooming tea! Sure it has a slight Jasmine scent but it is just enough especially for someone who doesn’t LOVE Jasmine. I made a LARGE Mug full so my first and 2nd steeps where blended together. The first steep was much darker than I thought it would be – that was a pleasant surprise. The taste was a tad green tea tasting but it also reminded me of a white tea for aftertaste. There was a bit of non-jasmine floral taste to it and even a small hint of sweetness, too! I really like this one! Thumbs up!

Carolyn

It sounds nice. Are you using a glass mug? I’ve only done the blooming teas in a wine glass, which looks beautiful but is not the best way to drink tea.

TeaEqualsBliss

I add the hot water to a glass mini tea pot…and let bloom…when ready pour into a regular mug and resteep in the glass until ready to pour.

takgoti

That picture is absolutely gorgeous. As soon as I get time, I think I’m going to have to do a little photographic experimentation with some glass pots and a light box.

TeaEqualsBliss

Takgoti – Youtube has some really cool still/shots/pics and/or video for blooming teas! WAY COOL!
