Iced Latte!

Yesterday I made myself a MASSIVE 30oz iced latte to sip on all throughout the morning while I was working, and it was just so gorgeous and delicious. No added sweetener, jams, or syrups. Just matcha, milk, and ice. Deep creamy green colour, and a smooth as velvet flavour with notes of whipping cream, butter, umami, and a soft overarching grassiness. Not a lick of bitterness or astringency. I’ve been so into nuttier tasting matchas lately, but this highly creamy and naturally sweet one was also just divine.

Iced Latte!

This was from last week, where I had a Yame matcha every single morning. Honestly, this is probably my favourite matcha right now. It’s SUPER nutty tasting, and so when I put it in this iced latte made with oat milk and a strawberry rhubarb fruit puree it was actually kind of giving me “PB&J” vibes in a fun way. So cool how the matcha was still strong in taste and suupppeeerrrr complimentary to the drink additions.

Iced Latte!

Finally tried this as a matcha latte and really enjoyed it! The consistency thing, which has been my biggest hang up, totally went away which let me just focus my mind entirely on the flavour. That said, I tend to have a generous pour when it comes to the milk in my lattes so I probably could have upped the amount of matcha I used to have more of that flavour coming through without sacrificing on the creaminess of the milk I was using. I still got lovely notes of sesame paste, but just a bit less of that nuttiness I adore so much in this matcha.

Right now this is probably my favourite matcha from just a flavour standpoint alone. I still think the grind could be finer, but every time I take a sip of that deeply nutty tasting liquor I melt a little bit on the inside. It’s very rich with a flavour that just screams toasted sesame with buttery peanut undertones. So smooth, and just a little savory!

Another matcha that I recently picked up!

I’m not personally super familiar with Nami Matcha as a brand, though I see them fairly often on TikTok and they seem relatively well liked. Mostly, the reason I picked this one up was because I was interesting in the region it was produced in (Yame). To my knowledge, I haven’t tried a matcha from Yame before and my understanding is that they’re a little more well known for having a very nutty taste. As far as cultivar goes, this is a blend of Okumidori and Saemadori.

To start, I tried this matcha as usucha to get a sense of the pure, unadulterated tasting notes. I will say, it does immediately come off as very nutty. Like, super strong notes of sesame seeds, peanut butter, and tahini. Very, very savory but with sweetness to the undertones and just a bit of creaminess. So, as advertised. I liked the taste quite a lot, and I can really see it being very good in a matcha latte as well.

However, the mouthfeel wasn’t my favourite. While I certainly wouldn’t go as far as to call this coarse or gritty, it was just observably less smooth than some of the other matchas I’ve been drinking as of less. So I have to dock a few ‘points’ because of that. Though, with milk, I don’t think you’d notice at all…
