This one definitely needs a short steep, otherwise it’s quite tart and generic. I steep it for under three minutes, then add sugar and put it in the fridge. I mean, I guess it still tastes generic, but it’s drinkable. It has the usual red fruit flavor without any intrigue. It’s frustrating just how much sugar I have to add to tame the tartness. I’ve had one tasty cup of this and three annoying ones.
There is a sweetness about this tea that makes it go down nice and smooth, easy drinking and you don’t even realize there is nothing more left in your cup. It’s not that strong of a licorice taste, but I like licorice so I don’t mind the taste. The tulsi comes through, with a tart vegetal note, and I’m not sure what else I’m tasting here. If I buy more of this I would mix it with chamomile for a sleepytime blend, or maybe try it iced. The instructions say drink this hot, but I’ve never been good at following the rules. I do see another Maya Tea order in my near future as their podcast Steeping Around makes the tea all sound delicious and they include the history of each tea so I am learning things as well. Apparently I won’t be good at sticking to a tea budget this year either, lol.
Flavors: Licorice, Tulsi
additional notes: Sipping this now and it seems Maya doesn’t have it anymore and the google search for the ingredients also can’t find it. OH NO. It’s really good. The coconut isn’t aging yet. Somehow it tastes like a coconut macaroon. Wish I had bought more at the time.
additional notes: Gah, I’m about a week behind in reading tasting notes. Anyway, I keep drinking this blend and keep being surprised at the magical alchemy happening with it. The flavors work so well for a tea that, on paper, seems like it wants to push me away. It’s like a coconut macaroon and somehow the yerba mate doesn’t appear in flavor but hopefully it’s giving me energy. I hope Maya keeps this one around. Raising the rating from 84.
Yep, a coconut tea, which I don’t like to stock up on these days, but this was $1 and only an ounce. I woke up this morning thinking this blend might be a disaster so I wanted to drink it today just to check. It’s very good though! I didn’t think the green yerba mate flavor would work with the coconut flavor, but it tastes seamless here. I actually had to check to see if this really was yerba mate – and it is. Maybe yerba mate tastes earthier the older it gets? It’s very mellow here! I’m sure it being mixed with a black tea helps balance the flavor. And I can really appreciate a FRESH coconut tea. It’s so good here. Tastes just like a coconut macaroon and I’m not sure how mixed with black tea and yerba mate! Even the second steep is lovely at boiling, maybe a slight bit of the base flavors more present. I’m glad I spent that dollar on this.
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 teaspoons for full mug // 20 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 // just boiled // 3-4 minute steep
haha :D I’m making it my mission to finish this one earlier than not (but the poor other teas will wait longer! sigh.)
I listened to their podcast Steeping Around. Kept me interested for at least the first episode. I have liked all the teas I bought except the prickly pear, though I’m still experimenting with water temp on that one. I’ll probably purchase from them again.
I like the idea of this tea, blending 4 teas together to meld their flavors. But it just washes out each of the individual tea flavors and what’s left is a rather uninteresting tea. I tried a bit more leaf this morning and while the first steep was a bit mineral, it was smooth and not bitter. Smooth is usually good but I was left hoping for a bit more taste. The second steep was just too weak. I would add it to an order as an afterthought, but I wouldn’t seek this out again.
Flavors: Metallic, Smooth
This tea gets overlooked and neglected until I get bored with other morning brews. Then with a nice strong steep I remember that this has a smooth nutty aftertaste that gets less astringent as it cools. I hope Maya tea has a cinco de maya sale so I can pick up more of this one.
A nice smooth blend of black tea. There’s a metallic taste from the Assam that makes it interesting but not bitter. The finish is slightly nutty. A decent black tea blend that brewed up strong and robust. I’d be tempted to purchase again.
Flavors: Metallic, Nutty, Smooth
Ok, so this was something a little outside of my comfort zone, being a yerba mate blend. I’ve never been able to develop a taste for it.
Now, this is faintly coconutty, but it also is blended with Maya Tea’s Creme Brulee. Instead of supporting the coconut, the creme brulee flavors overpower it… but not the mate. I can tell the creme brulee is mostly there to tone down the mate. It’s strong, it’s vegetal, and it’s smoky. Like stewed green beans. As nice as the other two flavors are, and as nice of an energy boost I get from it, I can’t get through this. Nope. No thank you. This is not for me.
Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Coconut, Cream, Green Beans, Smoke, Sweet, Vegetables
Preparation
I have been on such an iced dessert tea kick lately. It’s been pretty much all I’ve been drinking at work to get my day started.
First of all, this tea is so reasonably priced for what you get. Seriously, it’s $7 for 4 oz. Of course, that’s what made me a little wary of Maya Teas, as I’m new to them as a company. So the Creme Brulee was all I bought. But the quality is actually very good! Since then, I’ve gone back and bought a few more to try.
The aroma is incredibly powerful. This is one of those teas where you open the pouch and POOF, the whole kitchen smells like sweet maple syrup and brown sugar. I can’t say much for the quality of the black tea base because it is absolutely obliterated by mapley creme brulee flavor. It reminds me so much of French toast and pancakes. Also, I should note that my husband doesn’t like tea, but he really enjoys this one. Anyway, all around good dessert tea, and I will be investigating more by this company.
Flavors: Brown Sugar, Burnt Sugar, Caramel, Maple, Maple Syrup, Pancake Syrup, Sweet
I’m not the biggest fan of coconut, but this smelled more cake-y rather than coconut and ahhh such a wonderful dry leaf scent :)
Steeping, this takes on a light amber liquor, and the coconut does get more pronounced.
I really like how this has a slight vanilla flavour, and the coconut isn’t overpowering. I despise coconut, and I’m still trying coconut teas, and this one is definitely one of the better ones! Sorta hoped that the cake scent
Thank you QueenOfTarts for sending this my way!

Gentle, creamy sweetness. Wonderful with a bit of honey and milk. As I always do with my teas, I blend this with a base tea (like an Assam or English Breakfast) to get just the right level of flavor – tea ratio for my tastes. But out of all the flavored teas I’ve tried so far, this one seems to have the most staying power. I have this one as part of my morning blend nearly every day.
Flavors: Creamy
Bring it on! This tea has depth, some smokiness, but not too much. I use this one as a base tea and blend in some smoother flavored teas like a Hazelnut or Creme Brûlée tea. The Four Horsemen can easily stand on its own, but I love the way it kicks up the flavor on other loose leaf teas.
Flavors: Smoke
Preparation
This tea smells buttery, sweet and a tiny bit fruity. There is also something in the background that reminds me of yogurt. I’m pleased to say that the coconut is not too overwhelming as far as the scent is concerned. Yes, I do like coconut, but it has to be “just so” in a tea or else I won’t enjoy it. Coconut has the potential to become overpowering, sour and too sweet. If scent is any indication, I think I will enjoy this cup!
Sipping… it takes a little while for the flavor to develop on the tongue. The first part of the sip leads you to believe you’re drinking plain hot water or a very weak white tea. As the sip continues, the sweet coconut blossoms and becomes apparent. The finish is sweet and a little bit of that tangy sourness that coconut tends to leave behind.
I did steep this tea for a rather short amount of time, about 2 minutes (White tea and I usually don’t get along well, plus I find it can be oversteeped quite easily!). This blend is soothing and soft — it reminds me a bit of a light linen blanket. Not too much or too little, but has just the right amount of flavor to provide you with comfort. I do like this tea, but don’t think I would buy it again. It doesn’t really call to me the way other teas do, but happy to have had a cup this afternoon!
Very disappointed in this tea…It does not remind me much of coconut, instead I get a maple-ish smell and taste. I can see lots of coconut shreds, so I am assuming that the smell/taste is coming from one of the natural and artificial flavours….I doubt I’ll be trying this again :(
