As promised, I am trying this today as a latte. I steamed a little bit of milk and used a little less water to make up for the additional liquid. The result: really nice. REALLY nice. So rich and creamy.

It’s really hard to describe this … it’s like black tea, but, not just stronger, but, thicker. Imagine black tea with the thick consistency of a smooth hot chocolate. It’s incredibly smooth and so very delicious. The black tea is robust and flavorful, slightly sweet with notes of deep cocoa. The latte just sends this over the top. I enjoy it straight without the milk, but with the milk, it becomes an amazingly comforting drink that is also quite stimulating.

AWESOME.

Plunkybug

Oh my god, this sounds amazing! I’m drooling, and suddenly my Cranberry Pear seems less significant! Is this brand online only? I have seen a number of teas from them I’d love to try, but I don’t have a credit card for online buying at the moment.

LiberTEAS

I don’t know if they sell elsewhere, here is a link to their website though and maybe you can work something out: http://www.redleaftea.com/

Thank you TeaEqualsBliss for sending me this Matcha.

My first sip was a bit of a “shock” I think mostly because my taste buds are somewhat programmed to expect green matcha when I sip from my chawan… and this is like SURPRISE! It’s a nice surprise though. It is very bold and rich.

I think I am going to try this tomorrow as a latte before I rate it numerically.

Glo

This sounds so interesting and everyone who’s reviewed it seems to have enjoyed it. Might have to get some now.

drank Strawberry Matcha by Matcha Outlet
150 tasting notes

I’m addicted to matcha lattes, and Strawberry Matcha from Red Leaf is one tasty matcha with which to make a latte! It’s amazing how good a quality matcha frothed with a little warm almond milk and a bit of agave can taste.

Initially I couldn’t really taste much of a strawberry-y flavor, but as my latte cooled the strawberry flavor began to develop. This matcha has a really delicate, fresh, natural, strawberry essence that makes for such a treat. The only downside to Red Leaf Strawberry Matcha is the crazy high price. Matchas are known to be pricey but this one is $19.00 for a 30-gram bag. I suspect drugs may be cheaper. I don’t know what kind of drugs, just drugs man.

Plunkybug

So do you need the special bowl and brush to prepare this tea?

Jenn

No, silly! Well, for aesthetic purposes maybe… but I mixed my matcha in a small soup bowl with a bamboo baby fork for ages and it was just as yummy. I have since invested in the proper tools and they were relatively inexpensive. The tool I find most useful is the cheap-o battery operated milk frother that I use to make almond milk matcha lattes. Yum!

Plunkybug

Oooh, almond milk matcha lattes! Ok, so I don’t have any of that other than a soup bowl, though I do want to try this. But I know I can get the stuff from many a tea shop here. Oh! I have this (http://www.pamperedchef.com/our_products/catalog/product.jsp?productId=244&categoryCode=KW) on hand…might this work? Does it have to be bamboo? Thanks!

Jenn

I don’t think that the tools have to be bamboo at all. I just used the little bamboo fork to make my matcha paste, but my milk frother is metal just like yours. So, I’d say you’re all set :)

Plunkybug

Woo hoo!

This marks the second white matcha that has graced my miso soup bowl. Red Leaf’s smelled like…well…white tea – mildly nutty but floral. As for flavor, there really isn’t much to say beyond a simple word, “Awesome.” It was smooth from the start, never presenting a vegetal kick-back like some regular matchas do.

It’s the second black matcha I’ve tried. The first was a Darjeeling/Assam blend with a robust, almost chocolaty flavor with a wonderful texture. This reminded me of a mid-grade, CTC-cut Nilgiri on smell – bitter forefront that transitioned into a floral fragrance. The result after whisking was a thickly-frothed, even-brown liquor with a spectacular aroma. The true beauty of this was in the texture. If the drinker had no taste buds, they’d still find pleasure in the velvety/silky delivery.

I’m excited to dive into the world of Red Leaf’s flavored matchas! I sort of chose vanilla at random because there were so many that sounded good, and I’d never tried a flavored matcha before so I wasn’t sure what would go well with the pure green tea flavor of standard matchas. That seems like it would be a beast to try and flavor! But Red Leaf does it well, from what I hear.

I love a good vanilla flavoring, but this one is more subtle than most – more of a hint in the background than a loud presence. It adds a smooth sweetness compared to other unflavored matchas I have. As for the matcha itself, it’s quite delicious. A great example of matcha in general, without the astringency that’s put me off matcha before. You can tell they’ve used high quality green tea for this.

As for the whole presentation: the shipping is quick (and free if you order a 60g pack), and the tea comes in a foil bag that isn’t resealable, so have a small tin at the ready to transfer it over. Once I emptied mine into a tin I shook a bit of water into the packet just to make sure I got all the matcha-y goodness available to me.

I’m glad to have this in my cupboard and excited to try their other flavors! Maybe chocolate next?

Cofftea

You’ve got to be kidding, NOT resealable? That’s inexcusable IMO.

Indigobloom

that kinda reminds me of the Teaopia packages, if you get 50g (like I usually do) they come in paper bags, with the foldup seal.

Cofftea

Not really because fold up seal = resealable.

Katie

Not resealable? Yeesh. Does the matcha actually have sugar in it, or just vanilla flavor?

Sara

@Katie, it’s just infused with vanilla, no sugar added.

The matcha has a slightly darker color due to the acai powder. What I like about this tea is that there are no flavorings, sugars or odd additives. The acai powder is pure, ground acai berries. This tea has more of a matcha taste than an acai taste. There is only just a hint of acai. It’s not sweet and the acai doesn’t make the matcha taste bitter. This is a great way to have matcha, but with additional health benefits from the added acai powder. If you’re looking for something sweet or fruity tasting, this isn’t the tea for you. However, if you love matcha and the taste of pure matcha. you will love this tea.

Okay…I’m drinking this one JUST FOR Azzrian – she wanted to know about Red Leaf’s White matcha…well, I have tried this before…see previous notes. It’s been a while…TOO LONG, actually. I really LOVE LOVE LOVE this White Matcha. I still think tea companies need to do more White Matcha! C’mon!!!! Please?

Azzrian

ahhh shucks :) Thank you!

My last matcha for today…will pick up again on Monday with the matcha…

BUT

I have been WAITING for a white matcha!! I HAVE to try this NOW!!!!!

This is a light brown/grey in color powder-wise…once mixed with water it’s a murky brown in color.

DRY…this smells amazing! Pure! Once mixed with water it doesn’t really have a distinct aroma.

As I sip all I can think about is how pure this is and how mouth watering and true to the white tea this is…it’s amazing!

The flavor is wonderful! Since I haven’t seen other white matchas or tried them yet and because I am enjoying this one so much I am going to rate it at 100. That could change – but for now it sticks!

ATTN TEA WORLD – Bring out MORE White Matcha, will you!?

Alana237

I have always wanted to try white matcha, but can’t get ahold of it in the UK. It sounds amazing!

TeaEqualsBliss

I THINK Red Leaf Tea ships to UK…

Cofftea

Is this the same as the white rhino matcha you’ve tried? As white tea lowers body temp, this would make a great matcha lemonade!

TeaEqualsBliss

Nope…this one is COMPLETELY Different tasting…I prefer this one much better :) My personal opinion…

TeaEqualsBliss

I forgot that was a white matcha! LOL Oops!

TeaEqualsBliss

But yes…I like this one better than the Rhino…it is VERY different from the Rhino tho…this was juicy and sweet and the Rhino was grassy and more on the bitter side.

Alana237

Oh yay! They do ship to UK!

Awwwww, yea! This is the stuff!
Butttery-goodness! :)

And yes…that’s Butttery with 3 T’s!

This is a little grayer in color than the other matcha’s I have had today!

I really like this tho! It’s just enough of every thing you would want in a matcha, I suppose.

Royal?

Well, I’ll chalk this up as my tribute to the Royal Wedding Celebrations today – since I don’t have any of Twinings’ Commemorative Royal Wedding tea…this will have to do and it’s doing just fine and dandy!

Cofftea

buttery w/ 3 L’s?

TeaEqualsBliss

HAHA! I meant 3 T’s!!!! HA!
Yeah…sign of too much matcha today, I guess! teehee

drank Noni Matcha by Matcha Outlet

If you know of anyone who is into RAW Foods – tell them about this Noni Matcha!

It is 100% raw, pure and organic.

Dry – the first thing that came to mind was Noni flavored Scones!

After mixing up it smells like fruit and veggies with matcha!

This is pretty good. It’s a tad tart but unique and super healthy! It’s a nice change-up from your plain-jane matcha! :)

TeaEqualsBliss

Afterthought…I like this one a bit better as it cools for a few…it becomes juicer, it seems

Cofftea

Never heard of Noni. Must do research. :)

A nice – strong – rich – HEALTHY – great quality tasting matcha! It leaves a leafy green meets veggie aftertaste but it’s darn good!

Cofftea

Love me some strong and rich matcha. But all matcha is healthy!

Azzrian…if I bounce off the walls later – it’s YOUR Fault! LOL :)

It’s a MATCHA-Thon, folks! Who’s IN?

Here’s my first Matcha of my matcha-thon.
It’s been a while since my last sip of this. I usually do a double shot of this…I can taste the chocolate more-so in the after taste – it’s still true green tea//matcha taste upfront…first and foremost.

Azzrian

Haha same to ya woman! I just had my first for the marathon too! Have to go get daughter from work soon but will do round 2 upon my return! :)
Haha lucky for me perhaps or unlucky I only have a handful of matcha to try! HAHA how many are you down or ummm UP for? LOL

TeaEqualsBliss

I’ll do as many as I can in the next 3 hours :)
BTW…I’m sending you the rest of the B.Chocolate, here, and will send you the Organic one I am about to post :) Found out I had way more than I thought I did :)

Azzrian

OMG I love you lol

TeaEqualsBliss

teehee…yay…I love being loved :)

Azzrian

I have to run get the daughter lol be back for more soon!

Did 4 scoops! YUM! It starts off as a darker tasting chocolate and that fades off a bit. Still a thumbs up from me, tho!!!

This is a VERY good Matcha! It isn’t overly chocolate-E but it is TASTY. I am going to play around with it more but first taste was good!

Cofftea

Ugh. I hate you. Ya know, in a “not really, you’re a great friend… I’m just REALLY jealous right now” way LOL. <3 The up side of this is I’m hoping you’ll try all the weird ones I’m too scared to first lol. I’m wondering if their ginger is the same as AoT’s. (which I have now and am almost out of.) Frank better get going, RL is beating him at his own game lol. :)

Cofftea

grrr my < 3 came out as “s.”

Batrachoid

Chocolate matcha? I think I’m in love! XD

Cofftea

Is this the same as Domo’s chocolate matcha? If not, how is it different?

TeaEqualsBliss

I’m certain it is different from Domo’s Chocolate Matcha…I think Domo’s is more chocolate-E and smooth but Red Leaf is more Matcha-E if that makes sense LOL

Cofftea

Oh hm… part of my 1st post got deleted too. (probably due to my attempt at a heart). I was trying to say I wonder if RL’s ginger matcha is the same as AoT’s.

Cofftea

Oh and yeah that makes total sense. :)

Sil pushed me over the edge to jump in with a matcha BUT I wasn’t done with my Black Tea Craving…so…here’s my entry!

RLT’s Black Matcha Organic! I’ve reviewed this one before but it’s been a while. See previous notes. I think I will send some of this to Azzrian next :)

Perhaps I went a little overboard by added 4 scoops to this but I will tell you it’s strong and it’s good! See my previous notes…

OMG! OMG! OMG! Red Leaf Tea added more matchas! Whooooooo! Yeah! I receive some in the shipment I just received and I can wait to try them! This was the first one on tap and I chose it at random. Sure this smells and tastes like black tea but I’m excited about this one mostly because of how strong the black tea flavor is in it! It’s wonderful! I have a feeling this won’t last long in my stash!

Cofftea

I know right?! I just discovered them yesterday! Some of them are down right weird.

TeaEqualsBliss

Stay tuned! I have LOTS more to post about! LOL

Cofftea

You already knew I’d be stalking you, right? LOL I’m looking forward to living vicariously thru you!:)

BoxerMama

Question for you about this tea, since you drink a lot of matcha. Do I still use low temp water for black matcha or do I use stands black tea temp?
