I meandered through the tea aisle at the supermarket yesterday afternoon, and was surprised to see that they carry quite a few matcha mixes. Most of them were plain matcha or sweetened unflavored matcha, but this company caught my eye as they had a couple of flavored options. I chose this one because it seemed a bit unusual to me, and the other option was ginger (which I’m not the biggest fan of).

Hm, well the color of the powder isn’t great. It has a very yellowish/brownish tint to it and doesn’t smell very sweet. The package recommends 2 teaspoons for 10 ounces, so I used 2 teaspoons for my usual 8 ounces of soy milk as I figured it’s close enough and I don’t mind if it’s a little stronger. It mixes in with the liquid almost instantly, which is nice but probably a bad sign… :P

Oof. This is so sugary.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love sugar and drinking this is making my brain happy. But I can barely taste the matcha at all with all of this sugar. Maybe that’s the intention given the color and dry aroma…

It does taste somewhat of vanilla and almond, but mostly it tastes of sugar.
