This wasn’t as forgiving today…kind of tastes like coffee…ick. Note to self: When and if I ever get this again…don’t over-do the amount steeped. Gone for now…

Not very fruity today but a tad smoky and almost malty towards the end of the sip. It looks like I only have enough for one more cup after this one. BUMMER. It’s a good cuppa!

Semi-Fruity with a bit of smokiness due to the fact I oversteeped but I must say it’s very forgiving! Thank the tea gods! Solid Suppa!

Another ‘gift’ from Jacqueline. Thanks J! This sample is extra special to me! When I found out that HarSha meant Bliss in Hindu I smiled…that just happens to be part of my real name (as well as my steepster name). This has a pleasant black tea smell with almost a semi smooth yet peppery and nutty scent mixed in. I’m just towards the end of the infusion time and I am very eager to try it. It’s medium brown in color. My water isn’t as hot as it should be…Oops!

Anyhow…this is a very pleasing to the senses type tea…not only to sniff but to sip. There is no after taste – which is great. It’s a very good go-to tea! Nice and even taste.

How sensitive is it?

Ricky

I’m guessing my cheap scale? 1000g-0.1g.

sophistre

Wooo, congrats on your fun new toys! :)

Madison Bartholemew

Yea another zoujirushi person! I know what you mean about it taking a lone time… but once it wears in it becomes a little faster.

Ricky

New toys are always fun, learning how to use it isn’t. I woke up and pressed reboil and when I came back to it later I was surprised that it was playing a song! The energy saver feature also confuses me a bit. I guess it wasn’t on yesterday as I kept pressing the button past 10hr. I should really read the instructions manual.

It takes 4hrs to cool to 140F! That’s insane! Haha, seems my gyokuro will have to wait.

Madison Bartholemew

haha I don’t use the stupid energy saver settings… they scare me… but I’ve had mine for 6 months and it gets down to green tea temp in about an hour and a half… it’ll wear in
WAIT! it plays a song!>!?! ok I have to play with the energy saver features now

Ricky

Hahaha, green takes me two hours. Yeah! Apparently if you hold the unlock button you can change it from silent mode to melody to beep. Once it finishes reboiling it plays a tune and it won’t stop! I’m sure it does but it was going on for a while. When I set it on 10hrs it started playing some music too! It’s scary!

Madison Bartholemew

hehe strange strange Japanese people!

LENA

HA! This post made me laugh! From the musical zojirushi to the smell of Bangkok…nice job.

sophistre

It does stop, honest. ^^ Mine does. It just plays through the musical phrase twice, and then stops. :D

Ricky

Did I mention there’s an elephant? The logos an elephant. I don’t know why, but I’ve been fascinated with them lately. Ohhhh I think I know what my new avatar is going to be!

I guess I just wasn’t patient enough. I was like AHHHH when is this melody going to stop!

teaplz

WHEE packages! :D Hahaha, enjoy it, Ricky!

Ricky

I love packages =D Have you been ordering more tea? Uhoh, this should be in a PM!

I got this one in a tea swap as well! I couldn’t smell chocolate when I opened the bag or even when I infused but as I sit here sipping I can notice it more and more and it smells great! It’s mostly black tea but the chocolate is noticeable! YUM!

Although the Hao Ya B has less tip than the A, it is still full-bodied, delicious, round chocolaty notes, and absolutely nutritious.

Hao Ya B is a more intense cup of tea than a regular English Breakfast, which makes it perfect for getting your day started. Grab a cup and let the day begin!

A nice hot cup of lightly smokey Hao Ya ‘B’ to keep us warm on this dreary and cold day.

What does the B signify?

Harney & Sons The Store

As said in The Harney & Sons Guide to Tea, “Ha Ya teas are seperated: The best tips become Ha Ya A, the next-best tips become Ha Ya B. The grading system is an affectation adopted for the U.S. market; A and B grades don’t exist in China.”

This is definitely an exquisite Assam. When brewed correctly it can emote notes of buttery caramel, malt and sweet fruity notes of papaya and mango, without being robust and overpoweringly roasty like other Assams.

Natural sweetness comes from the tips or the buds of the tea being harvested. Assam Golden Tips consists of only the tips, hence the name. With a malty, fruity mango-like and underlying honey notes, this is a tea to be desired. Limited in production and pricey, this tea will be that much more special.

The creamy flavor and citrus notes of this tea make it an excellent choice for an almost Spring afternoon!

This is a balled oolong, with leaves that are tight, shiny dark green pellets. It gives off a potent gardenia and lilac aroma with notes of crystallized sugar and fresh citrus. It has a medium light body and its flavors are among the creamiest of oolongs.

Janefan

wow, sounds lovely!

The wet leaves have a potent gardenia and lilac scent with top notes of crystallized sugar and fresh citrus, akin to key lime pie topped with meringue. Ali San has a medium body and a creamy viscosity, giving a nice coating sensation and some butteriness along with lime citrus notes and a mild vegetal undertone.

High Mountain Oolongs first emerged in the early 1980s, after the lifting of the embargo against world trade with Communist China. During the embargo, Taiwanese tea makers made a fine living selling ersatz version of the Chinese green teas to Chinese expatriates in South Asia. With the collapse of the market for their inferior version of Chinese teas, in the early 1980s, a few intrepid tea makers from the nearby Dong Ding growing area experimented in the high mountains that form Taiwan’s spine. They found that the higher altitudes led to creamier and more floral teas.

It seems likely the cooler temperatures and reduced sunshine in the misty mountains stunt the leave’s growth, concentrating their flavors. The cloud cover may also increase certain amino acids that give the tea its heavier, creamier body.

One of our most exquisite oolongs ever. We find it to be one of the creamiest of the oolongs, giving a nice coating sensation and some butteriness along with lime citrus notes and a quiet, underlying vegetal flavor. A very smooth pour.

Though the actual tea flavor is masked by the Osmanthus, this tea is very smooth, sweet and enjoyable. We don’t recommend more than 3 infusions though!

Well, I think it’s a good tea, but it’s not a tea for me.

I have this one as well! I’ve actually never had an Assam by itself, but I’m really anticipating it! Sorry that it wasn’t your type of tea!
