Used two teabags for 14 oz this time and sweetened with honey for a decent cup of tea. Still enjoying the quotes, but would not recommend the tea. “People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading.” —Logan Pearsall Smith and “Never judge a book by its movie.” —JW Eagan

I used one tea bag for 12 oz of water and the resulting tea was incredibly weak. The tea isn’t that great, but they quotes are fun. I guess it’s a toss up as to whether this was a good investment.

I went camping to stargaze: http://www.astrohbg.org/CSSP/Information.html
& this was the tea I brought along. I wasn’t getting my hopes up for outstanding flavor, but guess what? This was really good! I don’t know if it was because I was cold and surrounded by a zillion stars and the Milky Way above me, or if it was a truly outstanding bagged tea, but either way…I enjoyed every sip! Good, classic tea flavor with milk and sugar, and one bag made a flavorful cup even in my 10 oz mug. I have no idea how long I steeped it for, but I must have hit a sweet spot because it was not bitter at all.

I would not hesitate to drink this if I was feeling lazy at home, and I will definitely bring them on future trips!

Bonnie

Cool, this is something my Sister-in-law does. In fact, last Summer when she came to visit, the whole family went up to a star gazng in Rocky Mountain National Park at about 9,000 ft. and it was incredable! No light interference and big scopes set up! All my grandkids were there.

K S

Ah, a fellow star geek. (fellowette?) I usually take earl grey with me.

Bonnie I am so jealous except I literally could not breath at that altitude.

Bonnie

You could too! I’ve been to 15000 in Peru now that is high for treking! I live at 5000!

JacquelineM

K S – Earl Grey sounds delightful to drink with the stars! I’ll try that when my Novel Teas run out :)

Bonnie – we were “only” at 2,800 on our mountain but we still had spectacular views because of the lack of light pollution. It was so special. We got to look through some big scopes and I especially couldn’t believe those rings on Saturn!!!

K S

JacquelineM – what size scope do you have? A star party we attend annually has a club that brings in their 16-18" mirrors. Makes our 8" mirror look tiny. I can’t imagine the views at 2,800 above the light dome. We can see the milky way from horizon to horizon but I know it doesn’t compare to what you get to experience. Seeing Saturn for the first time is one of the most thrilling things I have ever seen.

Bonnie – 15000! Planes shouldn’t go that high.

JacquelineM

KS – We only borrowed looks at the star party. It was set up really well – people who were willing to share had blinking red lights near the bottom of their scopes and we could circulate and take a look at what they were showing :) We are in the market for one, though. We like the Celestron NexStar 8 SE because it is compact but it seems like you can see great images from the Dobsonian telescopes for less money but they are so large. If you have any advice I’d love to hear it!

Bonnie

KS when you go from Lima to Huaraz you go very high then down to 9000 where the capitol of Ancash is (cool mountain called sacsayhuaman. Pronounced sexy woman!) . Anyway come see the stars in Colorado! You’re half way there! I’ll take you on a tour!

K S

JacquelineM – the NexStar would make a great scope. Nothing like tracking. Ours is a dob. They are way less expensive so you ‘can’ go bigger, just make sure you can pack it as well as fit it in your car. They also require constantly adjusting for moving stars. You get used to that part of it.

Bonnie – I would love to see the stars in Arizona or Colorado. Can’t imagine not having the sky glow. Of course right now you probably can’t see anything at night for the smoke. So great otherwise.

K S

I wrote it about a week ago. It compares stargazing to tea drinking. Off to work with thee.

Angrboda

I think you are right that your experience of it had something to do with the circumstances. Bit like how the cheapest, most mediocre bagful of fannings and dust can taste like heaven if you’re wet and cold enough, or a super-expensive high-end tea made Just Right can be like dishwater if you’re feeling a bit ill and really wanted something else entirely.
Since this was a good experience, I think you might find that the memory of it will influence your experience the next time you have it too. :)

JacquelineM

KS – I posted a glowing happiness after reading your star and tea blog post, but it didn’t show up! In any event – I love your post and agree! :)

K S

JacquelineM- I checked the settings and could not find anything that appeared to be blocking comments. Anyway glad you enjoyed it.

Nothing new to share except today’s bag tag: “The only problem with new books is that they keep you from reading the old ones.” Yep.

Cold, ice, snow, and mid-winter blahs have also influenced my tea preferences, so I’m not wasting good tea on a bad attitude. Just hot basic leaf. Today’s quote on the bag tag: I cannot live without books—Thomas Jefferson.

There is hope … just praying I can dig it out from under a foot of thawed and re-frozen bleccccccch!

A nice surprise … left the bag in longer than usual while schlepping around getting ready for work, and the resulting brew was dark and fruity tasting—a little currant-y even. Which made me wonder first if I’d actually remembered to wash out my tumbler and I was getting previous-cup residue. Nope.

So the resulting taste treat made up for the “meh” quote on the bag tag this time: Read books. They’re good for us.

This morning’s quote on the bag tag: “My home is where my books are.” (Looking forward to spending some time there this weekend.)

Still a fair-to-middlin’ morning breakfast tea requiring no preparation thought whatsoever.

JacquelineM

A friend just gave me a package of these! How long do you usually steep for? :)

gmathis

Hmmm…probably around 3 minutes, but I tend to prefer stuff on the lighter side. I’d give it a taste and let it go a bit longer if it isn’t stiff enough for you.

This was a get-well treat from one of the most well-read people (and one of my favorite people) on the planet. The tea itself is basic black English Breakfast tea, nothing unusual about it, but I am grateful for the thoughtfulness and enjoy the quotes on the tea tags. This morning: “Books had instant replay long before sports.”

I finally found some more Novel Teas and have been using my nifty new ice-maker to make delicious cups of 1/2 iced tea with 1/2 lemonade. I brew the iced tea in a normal tea cup with 2 bags of tea in about 8 oz water. The tea is strong enough to hold its own against the lemonade and is refreshing enough for the most obstinately hot of summer days.
Unfortunately, I have been in the middle of moving for several weeks now and my tea consumption has been reduced to this or Twinings. I cannot wait to get back to my ‘serious’ tea tasting, and perhaps even order myself some new teas once I finish off some of my remaining ones. I’ll just have to keep that in mind until my kitchen gets sorted out.

I don’t know if its just because of the sayings, but I think this is an excellent bagged tea. If I do have to have a bagged tea, I would go with Novel Teas or mighty leaf, and perhaps a few kinds of Twinings, but that’s it. Unfortunately, I am all out now, and don’t know where to find more!

Well the funny thing about me drinking this tea now is that im having a fight with my boyfriend at the time i drink it, so at the point of the discussion in which you want to explode, suddenly i turn to my tea cup looking for a answer and i see the tea tag that says “anyways shaving was terrible” and i started to laugh so much i forgot why i was mad.

Besides all that the tea is good, i had taken other black teas a little stronger but this one is good, i liked it quite much and i recommend to buy it for its good flavor but also for the funny tea tags

The first thing I noticed was the smell—very strong vanilla scent! Despite the Ceylon, which I normally cannot drink on its own, the Rooibos and flavouring make this delicious enough for me to gobble it up on its own. The little sayings on the tea tags are added fun too. I like having this in the afternoon or when people are over, I haven’t served it to someone who didn’t like it! Makes a beautiful deep red cup.

I think this tea might be decaf so it might not be the best breakfast tea, but whatever works for you. :)

And are you suuuure you don’t secretly long for those frou-frou tea parties with delicate flower-patterned pink china cups and tea danties? ;P

Ricky

Now you tell me =P That might be why I was nodding off at work all day until I had a second cup of tea in the afternoon.

Hey! That’s how I was drinking this tea, it’s called drinking with style ;) Correction though, pink little saucer cups too small for my hand with pink lilacs and butterflies. You were close ;)

If you’re on a diet, don’t sniff this tea. It smells strongly of almond cookies. It’s a mild and mellow dessert tea or a tea to help ease cramps. If I’m not careful my Mom will polish it off before I get the chance. I wonder if other tea companies do a chamomile and almond mixture.

Preparation
5 min, 0 sec
Cofftea

I’d think you should not only sniff, but drink, this when you’re on a diet because it’ll help you to keep away from the cookies.

Cofftea

I’m not sure what, if anything, you’re looking for in the other ingredients but I found a few here. http://steepster.com/search?products=on&q=chamomile+almond

Rena Sherwood

Sniffing this tea makes me run to the shop and stock up on cookies. Thanks for the heads up about the other chamomile & almond teas.

Cofftea

Ah, ok. I’d just run to the tea pot.:)

The “witty” tea tag and silly tin failed to distract me from the fact that this black tea was mediocre at best. It reminded me of those motel room tea bags of non-specific origin. Sure they’re tea, but they’re the tea nobody else is willing to use.

Still, this one got a few points for not being horrible. And maybe there was something amiss with the sample I received. If I try this one again and find that I was wrong, I’ll revisit my review.

I’m nursing this tea along, waiting for special moments to enjoy it. The other night, I thought I’d go Indian and have a medium-spiced vegatarian curry and wash it down with this Ceylon tea. The flavors in my mouth when into some sort of Taste Deathmatch. Boy, did they wrestle and bounce each other around! But in the end, the tea won out over the curry. Granted, my curry was nowhere near vindaloo-hot, but I think I may save this tea for drinking by itself in the future.

Since time has dragged by kicking and screaming to my 40th birthday, I decided to console myself by getting 2 teas from Bag Ladies’ on recommendation from Jillian. The package arrived the day before my birthday. I unopened it and pulled out the lovely canister and noticed there was a tea bag tag and string dangling outside the canister. The tea bag contained a quote from Peter Gabriel, my favorite guy. Inside, the other bags were all sealed in a plastic pouch. Nice touch - and, quite possibly, the nearest thing I’ll ever get to getting a B-day greeting from Peter Gabriel.

Anyway, what about the tea? I made myself wait until my birthday to have a cup. It’s Ceylon black tea and is really smooth and flavorful. It’s the kind of flavor that goes all the way down into your toes. Rock on!

Last tea of the night, I promise. ;)

I’m not tasting the sweetness very much this time for some reason. Ah well, it’s still a great bedtime tea.

BTW I put a bunch of teas I don’t want on the ‘Take It Away’ thread on the Discussion Board. Some of it’s been claimed, but there’s still some left. If you’re curious go have a look and see if anything catches your eye. :D

I accidently let this oversteep, but all in all it’s a pretty hard tea to ruin as it turns out. The flavour of the rooibos was more prominent, which I wasn’t too fond of, but the lovely vanilla-caramel flavour was still there.

BTW the tag on the teabag (each one has a different quote) was: “Friendships are like snowflakes – there are never two alike”

Teehee. Caramel Craze? I actually saw Notarevolution’s post about vanilla caramel and thought it might be the thing to make the day better.

(Also, LJ. Have been sitting on the question for a while wondering how stalkerish it might be… I’m Moreteadk there, can I add you? (It’s okay to say no))

Jillian

Oh sure, be my guest. I thought I might know you from the LJ tea comm, but I wasn’t sure. :)

Jillian

I should warn you though that not very much posting of tea goes on. It’s mostly me being geeky, writing fanfiction (don’t judge me!) and grumbling about life. So if you’d rather not be subjected to it, that’s find too. :D

Angrboda

Hey, I’d be the LAST one to judge you on the fanfiction. Dabbling mainly in Harry Potter myself. :D
The only reason I don’t have my LJ account linked here is that I want to be able to share Steepster with RL friends and family that I do NOT want to be able to find my LJ or the username I use for fandomy things.

(I should probably also warn that my own most recent post is a pretty ranty one that probably isn’t really making me look all that good… :p)

Jillian

I knew I liked you for a reason (apart from your good taste in tea). ;)

This got lost for a little while in the back of my tea cupboard which is a shame since this is one bagged tea that doesn’t deserve to languish in obsquerity.

It’s sweet enough to almost be considered a dessert in its own right, and that’s without any sweetener – it doesn’t need it! But I don’t find the caramel and vanilla to be artificial tasting like a lot of ‘flavorings’ are; you could close your eyes and imagine easily caramel syrup and real vanilla whipped cream in this tea as you sip at it.

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 15 sec
Rena Sherwood

That’s it. Gotta follow you now! Where do you find these teas?

Jillian

Just couldn’t resist me, hmm? ;P

Heh, well to tell you the truth I bought this tea at a Winners/Homesense store which are a line of Canadian stores that sell ‘designer’ merchandise at a discount price. They have a cooking section that sometimes brings in odd and interesting teas that I probably wouldn’t be able to afford (because of shipping) if I bought then from the parent company.

The company that sells this tea is called Bag Ladies Tea and I think they might have their own online store. Maybe try Googling them?

Rena Sherwood

ACK! My brother and his family live in Abbortsford. Now I know what to pester them about.

Thanks! My birthday is next week (arrgghh) so I thought I’d go for it and order a bunch. Hey, anything for Steepster. Found their website: http://bagladiestea.com/
