additional notes: Been breaking out some older teas lately, including this solid assam. Probably one of my favorite assams! (My last note - eight years ago- said “the perfect assam”.) Rich, never bitter. Great cold leftovers the next morning. Basically a note to say: I’m still loving this!

’Here’s Hoping’ Teabox Round #4 – Tea #5
THIS is a perfect assam! Just perfect. It’s sweet, mid-level strength. It doesn’t actually taste like the usual tomato that assams have been tasting like lately, so that is a plus. Just everything that an assam should be, here it is, though it is difficult to say what that should be. The second steep is even sweeter even though it steeped a while. I’m tempted to keep this out of the teabox but I want others to try it. It seems like a rare tea.

“So what does Assam taste like?” If a tea rookie asks you that question, serve this. It’s exactly what I think of: mahogany in color, malty and nutty and strong. I left this unattended (so what else is new??) for about a minute longer than I should have so there’s a little bitterness, but that can be toned down with a little dairy.

Another from Nicole because i really don’t want to increase my cupboard lol Also…deliciousy flavoured tea that is making my kitchen smell AMAAAAAAZING..hells yes! This one smells a great deal like the creme brulee from bayswater, though this one is decaf. mmm this is delicious! sweet….caramelly and delicious. there’s a toasty sort of quality about this as well. Like other creme brulee teas, it’s not exactly like creme brulee but it’s tasty.

This is toasty, caramelly and sweet but the tea base is still discernable. I don’t think it has sugar in it but since there are no ingredients listed I can’t say for sure. It’s a nice blend.

I unpacked this after the trip and couldn’t remember why I picked it up. I don’t look specifically for decaf teas nor do I look much for flavored teas these days. Occasionally I get a craving for flavored tea but not so often that I’d go out of my way to buy some sight untasted so to speak. I remembered after steeping it and sitting here for awhile with it – they were sampling shortbread cookies made with this tea and they were awesome! It wasn’t steeped in the liquid, but ground up tea leaves mixed in with the butter. That will be a project this week – trying to duplicate those cookies!

Really lovely initial cardamom/chai scent. this tea is quite good hot or iced. Iced it has more of the Crème Brule flavor with just a hint of the chocolate. Hot, it has a more pronounced chai spice flavor with a bit of vanilla.

Flavors: Cardamom, Chocolate, Oak, Vanilla

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 4 min, 30 sec 3 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

This is a great tea for those looking for a pumpkin flavored tea without all the spice. It makes a wonderful dessert tea with a bit of sugar and milk. I picked this little gem up at the Northwest Tea Festival…
