My Butiki order came yesterday! So excited. I was most excited about this one. I loooooooove creamy lemon teas and loved the idea of a macaron tea! Even though I had one of my own tea blend ideas in the top ten for Stacy’s contest, I was secretly hoping this one would win! And this definitely smelled the best out of the bunch, so I picked this one out to try first last night.

This called for 2 tsp per 8 oz cup of water. I was having a 12 oz cup of tea and I found that the 2 tsp of tea I added to my steeper took what seemed like half the tea that was in the bag! This bag definitely won’t last long, but it was soooo good. Such butter-creamy lemon goodness. The flavour was a tad weak, but that’s because I didn’t add as much tea as the parameters suggested. I’m gonna make it a little stronger next time just to get some more of that awesome flavour!

Thanks to Scheherazade for this sample!

Even though Butiki discontinued this before I could try it, I still wanted to sample it to see what I was missing.

This was pretty flavourless, but easy to chug back. It was like slightly sweet water. Maybe it has lost some flavour since it’s been discontinued for some time now…. but I’m glad I got to try it!

I think a longer brew time helps, and plenty of leaf as it’s quite light and fluffy. I didn’t get my first cup right, but I’ve got a lot more from it since.

I love dark chocolate, like obsessed with it. So I really wanted to try this tea and CharlotteZero was kind enough to send me a sample!

I really didn’t find that this tasted like dark chocolate. It was most definitely chocolate, just not the bittersweet, rich dark chocolate that I was hoping for. It was more like chocolate flavoured confection, you know that really cheap chocolate that has a gritty texture and kind of hurts your throat? Definitely not was I was hoping for. I’m glad I got to try this because I was going to order it.

Ok, last MF tea out of the samples CharlotteZero sent me!

I saved this one as a rooibos blend didn’t excite me, especially an apple one. But holy crap this surprised me! It was soooo good. I really loved that is was like an apple pie or tart but without the cinnamon. The rooibos in this was delicious as well. I will definitely be ordering this one. This one was my second favourite out of the collection next to Cannele.

I am so sad to see these teas go. Excited to make an order one day!

I tried my first cup of this on Friday but over sweetened it so held off on the review. Used the rest of my sample from CharlotteZero today.

This tastes like an almond pastry of some sort. The almond doesn’t taste like almond extract, more like raw almonds, which I really like about this tea. Even though I like almond extract, its nice to have an almond tea that is a little bit different, and more mellow with the almond flavour. I think they could have gone with a different base, the one they used was quite boring and didn’t contribute much to the overall flavour. I drank the first half of the cup without milk and the second half with, and I prefer it with milk. I really enjoyed this one and if I make an MF order this will be going in my basket.

I was getting a lot of coconut in my first sips and was surprised to learn that I wasn’t supposed to be tasting coconut! That has faded and now I am getting mostly strawberry and caramel, but I am not the biggest fan of that combination of flavours. This isn’t as good as most of the other MF teas I’ve been lucky enough to try thanks to CharlotteZero!

This tea didn’t do it for me like the other teas in the heritage gourmand line. I got a little bit of cake flavour, but it was nothing special. I enjoyed the cup but would not purchase this if I ever made an MF order.

Thanks CharlotteZero for sending me some of this!

I agree with CharlotteZero that this tea is very interesting, thanks for sharing it with me!

I had enough of this tea for about 1.5 cups so I just brewed the whole sample in my steeper. As I brought the first cup to my face, I got a strong smell of blueberry! I got some in the taste as well, but quite faintly. It also had a very mellow cakey taste. I didn’t get any bergamot though, but thought that might have been because I added cream and I have found that cream kills bergamot! It was a tasty cup though.

Second cup – steeped for about 45 mins while I drank the first cup. I immediately added some extra water before even tasting it because I thought it would be too strong. Added milk instead of cream. Now there’s the bergamot! I am not getting the berry or crepe flavours though. I bet I could get all the flavours in one cup with the right brewing time and with no cream. Though I am not sure I would be willing to spend the type of money that this tea costs just to try. I would purchase this for sure if It was more affordable, because it is good, but not mind blowing.

So I used to work with a friend that loved tea almost as much as I do, and we would share teas and talk about them all the time. Unfortunately, she was just a term and a lady that used to work in my office 6 years ago came back and kicked her out of her position (stupid government jobs). It ended up being a great thing because I work better with this new lady and she is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. And somehow I have gotten her obsessed with tea as well! We made a Butiki order together the other week and she was even online shopping for teas on her own, and unfortunately for her, she found Teavana online and made an order before I was able to tell her any of my horror stories about Teavana. She ended up hating most of her teas and she has 100g+ of some of them!

So this was one of the ones she purchased and it was REALLY good! It was just such a great strait black tea, malty and delicious! I think I might pick some up from the store when I go down to Vancouver next month. I guess it’s just Teavana blends that I don’t like!

Thanks again to CharlotteZero for sending me samples of all of her Heritage Gourmand teas!

Wow, my taste buds must be way off, I could have sworn that there was strawberry in this tea! Am I the only person who has found that? As soon as I opened the bag, the smell of strawberry was overwhelming. There were chunks of fruit in it that looked pink so I assumed they were strawberries, but much to my surprise, they were apples!

This tea tastes mostly like strawberry to me. I am also getting the buttercream, but not much pastry. I really like it, and while I was drinking it I was thinking how great it was that they went with a flavoured macaron instead of just plain because most of the teas would have tasted too similar in this line. But boy was I wrong. Oh well, it tastes like a strawberry macaron to me and I like it!

I didn’t drink a lot of tea growing up, just the red rose my nana would make me with about 3 teaspoons of sugar added to it. I started getting into loose leaf tea about a decade ago when I visited our local tea house and tried Rooibos for the first time, though I only drank it on occasion. I didn’t get serious about it until David’s tea came to town. I was on a diet and wanted something I could drink without sugar that had a lot of flavours to choose from.

I prefer black teas, but oolong and green come in a close second. White and guayusa are in the middle, while mate, rooibos and herbals are at the bottom of my list.

Likes: banana, jasmine, pumpkin, lychee, blueberry, chocolate
Dislikes: orange, ginger, rose, hibiscus, butterscotch, honeybush

My non-tea related interests are music, camping, poker, softball, snowboarding, biology and animals. I have 2 dogs and they are my whole life.
