70 Tasting Notes

Holy moly this is phenomenal! I got a free packet of this through Red Leaf’s monthly sample offer. After my disappointing experience with Peppermint Matcha, I felt rather cautious about trying this out.

Oh my goodness, this is fabulous! It tastes incredibly creamy with just the right nudge of spice. I drank this as a hot latte, but am planning to try it cold as well, being that I don’t usually heat up regular eggnog anyways. There is a highly probably chance this will be one of my main Christmas beverage staples in the next couple weeks. Yum!

I’ve been wanting to explore some of Red Leaf Tea’s different matcha flavors, and decided that peppermint would be a fun one to try. After much deliberation on what level of flavor intensity to get, I settled on the distinct.

Upon opening the package this afternoon, I was bombarded with the intense smell of authentic peppermint. So far so good. I whipped up a hot latte and added some sugar, since I thought the sweetness might brighten up the peppermint.

Wow! This is incredibly silky, decadent, and savory. The peppermint flavoring tastes like liquid candy canes. Seriously, an incredibly yummy treat. I would give this matcha a higher rating, but I am having one slight issue. Although I do absolutely adore peppermint anything, I don’t necessarily love it blended with the matcha here, because of the way it’s affecting the overall flavor. CHAroma likened the matcha taste to that of a dandelion, and I have to agree. Blegh.

This has definitely been a fun tea to try out, but I am slightly disappointed with the peppermint not blending as well as I had imagined. I guess I will just try to incorporate this into some sort of baking project, since I can’t seem to get past drinking a peppermint-dandelion tea. (unless someone wants to try this in a swap, it may taste better blended with another matcha?) Someone please tell me that the rest of Red leaf’s flavored matcha’s aren’t this odd tasting!

Oh, that sounds really weird…

It is. I am trying so hard to finish this cup but the taste just makes me shudder. Bleck.

This is so unbelievably delicious! I love the hints of cinnamon and orange peel with vanilla. This tea reminds me of Christmas, festive and magical and wintery. Thank you to MissB for letting me try this, I am planning to buy more as soon as I finish off what I have (first cup was gone in under 5 minutes, so I can’t imagine a spending spree at David’s to be too far in the distant future)

The dry leaves of this smell really lovely- I could instantly detect the notes of peppermint, rooibos, and rose. As stated before, I’m not the biggest drinker of rooibos tea, but I will always try something once.

Steeped, the taste remains very similar to the dry nose scent. The peppermint was much milder than I had expected, so I kind of feel like the title of this tea is misleading. I definitely did not feel like I was drinking a candy cane. Nevertheless, I was impressed with how well the rooibos and peppermint and floral notes blended together. Overall, I wouldn’t buy this for myself personally, but it is a nice tea. Just not a personal “must have.” Thanks to MissB for sending a sample my way.

Oh, I’m glad you tried it. It’s an odd tea, and I’ve had varied results with Naked Teas Galore. This one… well I found it better sweetened.

thanks to variaTEA for sending this my way. I literally squealed when I saw it had been included in my tea samples. This tea and I actually go quite a ways back, interestingly enough. My mother occasionally allowed me to buy this growing up (she didn’t want me drinking lots of black tea, decaf or not) As a little girl I thought this had to be the most delicious tea in the whole entire world. Since then, my horizons have broadened (thank goodness for that) but I still love this tea. It has such a buttery, smooth taste with that perfect hint of nuttiness. Maybe it’s the nostalgia that’s talking here, I don’t know. Looking at all the other ratings no one seems to like this tea. Well, either way, I’m glad this tea and I were reunited after all these years. Now I only need to figure out where to buy some, since no stores up here seem to carry it. Amazon perhaps?

This is one of the many teas MissB sent me in our swap. Coconut anything appeals to me, so I was very eager to try it out. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a bit of a let down. This tea features coconut and French vanilla as it’s primary flavors, and for whatever reason I can’t really detect either. Well, I can baaaaaarely taste the slightest bit of coconut. There’s also a sharp bite of astringency underneath as well (maybe I oversteeped?) I tend to be one who prefers the flavors in tea to be a little more pronounced. It’s difficult for me to enjoy beverages where the flavors are all muddled into a murky conglomeration of vagueness. I will try this tea again later perhaps, but for now I’m going to stick to what I know and trust.

Oh no! I have yet to try this – this place is just a few blocks from my house, and I opened the package to share with you in the hopes it would satisfy your love for coconut. So, good to know, and boo for it being yucky. I really hope the other things in our Swap please you more!

I have had this tea on my shopping list for quite some time now. Coconut and raspberry are two of my favorite flavors, but I was skeptical for how they would do combined. Nevertheless, MissB generously contributed some of this tea in our tea swap so I finally received the chance to give it a go.

Oh my goodness, this tea is amazing!!! Seriously, I am totally in love. Creamy, lush coconut combined with tangy, sweet raspberries, and a smooth black base makes for an absolutely sensational sipping experience. I can’t believe I waited this long to try this!! Yum!

I tried this tea a while back as an iced latte and that was good. A couple days ago I had it just as a normal tea and as you said, it was AMAZING!! One of my favorites for sure.

Yay! So happy to hear that you love it. :)

Oh my goodness, this is divine. Malt and honey aren’t typically flavors I’m crazy about, but here together they create such a warm, savory, delicious cup. I accidentally oversteeped my second helping of this tonight and there was no astringency. Love! Some foods have the reputation for being “comforting”, I would say this tea has it as well. So happy I got to try this one!

Yum! This tea is a winner in my book. I love the buttery, vegetal sweetness and the mellowness of it also. It’s not my first choice for winter teas, but I could definitely drink this regularly during warmer seasons!

I tried a cup of this when my sister in law and I popped in just to look around. And yes, okay. I liked it. The salesman had to reassure me at least 20 times that no, you can’t taste the rooibos in it. Surprise surprise, he was correct. No rooibos taste, so hooray for that. I do like how naturally sweet the taste is, but the oily sheen on top? Ew. Um. No thank you. This was a fun tea to try out but I won’t be making an investment for the long run.

I can’t use chopsticks. My favorite smells are lemongrass and fresh coffee. If I were to die of something fatal, it would probably be caffeine poisoning. Reading, photography, traveling, and cooking are just a few activities I enjoy. I am a native of Krasnoyarsk, but grew up in Alaska.

I enjoy most types of teas, but am partial to flavored black and green varieties specifically.
