drank Green and Fruity by DAVIDsTEA

I think I should have tried this iced. I will perhaps cold steep it tonight, as DaisyChubb did. Hot, this is just a big mess. It tastes like it’s trying to be Long Life Oolong or Southern Belle, but not quite hitting the spot. I guess I’ve never had green rooibos before, though. Anyway, I don’t really like the fruitiness of this one.
I feel like I haven’t had a heavenly cup of liquid gold in days.
Speaking of needing a cup of liquid gold, I was out for sushi the other day on Bloor and I ordered a green tea, as I had had a bad shift at work and REALLY needed that genmaicha deliciousness pick me up. I think they threw their cleaning chemicals into the cup and had the nerve to call it tea. I couldn’t believe what I was served. I don’t even know what it was trying to be, but it actually tasted like chemicals. That is all.

they wash the cups out with bleach or chlorine. I’ve had the same experience! it’s even worse when the cups they serve it in are plastic- it retains the smell that way to :/
and did you go to Sushi on Bloor? I used to love that place!

AliPants

OMG that’s totally what it was – it WAS a plastic cup! I was very upset. I went to Sakura – It’s a new all you can eat place that’s pretty good (the sushi, not the tea). I do, however love Sushi on Bloor! Sometimes it’s just too pricey for my tastes, however.

nomadinjeopardy

Give Sushi 101 a chance, guys! It’s next to Sushi on Bloor so people always overlook it but it is so good. Plus you can get delicious Korean bulgogi AND sushi at the same time. They don’t do all you can eat but that usually ends up being safer for me.

That’s odd about the chemical taste! These places definitely aren’t that discerning about what they serve as tea, but I’ve never had an experience THAT bad. Yuck.

Indigobloom

Sushi 101, yes I will try that!
I went to a few of the other places in the area, they were pretty good. I do love me some bulgogi! mmmm.
I’ve noticed that about the cups mainly at the all you can eat or cheaper places. Especially the pho or thai ones!
Last time I went to sushi on bloor, the sushi was hot and the hot food was cold. Service quality is terrible now, I think the management has changed.

nomadinjeopardy

Yeah, I haven’t been the biggest fan of Sushi on Bloor, but I think I’ve noticed it going downhill too. Last time I was there I was avoiding rice and got chicken teriyaki and the meat was pretty awful.

I DEFINITELY get a chemical taste from the water cups at Pho and cheaper sushi places. You must be right that the cleaners stick to the plastic.

Indigobloom

blegh!!
I’ve noticed it with tea as well, in plastic ware… whatever flavour I have in it sticks around for a long time! esp the essence oils

AliPants

Maybe we need to start bringing our own cups to these places.
The only reason I haven’t tried sushi 101 is because I always get bombarded by sushi restaurants whenever I’m out that way. Chances of trying that ONE place is about 1 in 20. I think a friend recommended Sushi on Bloor and I stuck with it – but after Indigobloom’s experience, I think I’ll bypass it. I do, however, want my dynamite rolls to be warm. That’s different. Anyway, I think that Sakura is one of the only ones that does all you can eat sushi on the “sushi strip”.

Indigobloom

haha do you think they would allow that… bringing your own cup, genius!
Hey we should all get urban spoon accounts and review the sushi places there :P

nomadinjeopardy

You are totally right, there are way too many Japanese places on Bloor to try them all. I lived right there for a couple years and still don’t recognize the names of half the places! I don’t think I could tell you were Sakura is. But, that’s good to know. Mariko also does all you can eat but it was BAD when I tried it.

Indigo, good idea! Maybe we can get someone to sponsor us visiting every single one. We’d be doing a public service.

AliPants

They would think we were crazy for asking to use our own cup, but I don’t see why not. If they said no, we just wouldn’t go there again- there’s too much competition to turn down a silly request like that :-P
LOL I think a steepster account is as far as I’m gonna go… I’m sure there are already reviews on urban spoon that we can look through.. Too much trouble to actually go to every one and try it! Jessie – Sakura is about a block or two east of DT, on the north side. It’s quite yummy – But then, all restaurants deteriorate in quality the longer that it’s open, I find. So if you go there in a few weeks/months, it probably won’t be as good as it is now.

ARGHHHHHHHHH!
I thought I was so close to discovering my legendary grapefruit tea. NOPE!
This was nasty, sorry guys. It was so vegetative, and not in the good way that green tea is – In a weird, bitter, stemmy kind of way. It was almost sour – but not in the fabulous way that grapefruit is (you couldn’t really taste any grapefruit under the nettle leaf). Sorry to be the first to review it – and give a negative review – but I don’t think there’s any way to make this tea good. Even the dry leaves smell just plain wrong – too much like weeds. I didn’t finish the cup.

I totally agree with you on this tea.

If you’re looking for a grapefruit tea I have a suggestion for you. Have you ever tried Harney and Sons White Vanilla Grapefruit?

I was drinking this tea prior to finding DavidsTea and now only drink tea from Davids.

AliPants

I haven’t tried it! It’s now on my list to try, but I have no idea where to get it from!

drank Mulberry Magic by DAVIDsTEA

Yummay! I love Mulberry Magic. The only thing deterring me from purchasing a lifetime supply is the price :-(
But GOD I love this tea. Best tea to drink when I’m hungry. Tastes like the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies from Starbucks, minus the 500 calories that accompanies this morsel of delight. So much comfort in one cup. I can just see myself handing a cup of this to the next crying girl I come across.
All I can say is, it’s YUMMA!
I’m as excited about this tea as this little girl is about blueberries:

I love it. Cinnamon Heart has been getting a lot of bad reviews! I don’t get the fishy taste that others are speaking of. For me, this is an earthy version of Cinnamon Rooibos Chai. Also a plus that it’s caffeinated. Strange but I think I steeped it a bit too long, and when I was first drinking it it was bitter and earthy. I tried it a couple minutes later and the earthiness and bitterness completely mellowed out into a nice cinnamon tea!
As a side note, the pu-erh may be nauseating others because of the probiotics that have resulted from the fermentation. Just a ponderance.
I don’t taste any orange. Just cinnamon and pu-erh and black tea :) it’s lovely! Not something I would add to my collection, however. Cinnamon rooibos chai is the number one cinnamon tea for me!

drank Deep Green Embrace by Tealish

This tea was not relaxing, but it certainly was refreshing. It has a strong scent and flavour of cloves, but I could occasionally taste the peppermint. It left a strange burning sensation on my lips and tongue – not unpleasant, just strange. I would only drink this one for the benefits of the raspberry leaf, or maybe sometimes at night when I’m looking for something spicy, like a chai, but I don’t want the caffeine. It reminds me of DT’s Organic North African Mint, although that one is caffeinated. This one seems to have some sharper flavours in it, too. All in all, a relatively enjoyable tea, when you’re in the mood for spice.

Sidenote: I’m very proud of myself for stopping by Tealish today! I was inspired by DaisyChubb’s Tealish reviews, as she recently recieved her order and was reviewing a whole bunch. I thought to myself.. I live NEAR Tealish… How come I don’t take advantage? WELL. Apparently I never went because it’s actually quite a mission for me. And, being the uptown girl that I am, I find walking through the neighbourhood its located in to be a bit scary. But once I got there, I found myself in the homey-est, most comfortable little tea store I’ve ever been in. I totally threw off my jacket and started sniffing – so much fun!

Awesome Ali! Glad you braved it ^^

AliPants

:D Me too!!! I just had to go for all those people who don’t live as close as I do! It was cool, when I went in, she was scaling out internet orders :-o

nomadinjeopardy

It really is such a great little shop! It always feels so tranquil in there. Like a tea temple.

AliPants

It’s totally a tea temple. Or a tea cabin!

Daddyselephant

Hahaha, what, you mean Doc’s Leather next door didn’t immediately make you feel safe and at home? ;) Tealish is getting better, much better than it used to be!

drank Organic The Glow by DAVIDsTEA

This is truly, actually a floral elixir. One of my favourite relaxing teas, The Glow has all the apple-cinnamon-y goodness of Forever Nuts but without the somewhat artificial-tasting baked goods flavouring. I can taste the cinnamon first and foremost, with the oat straw and the nettle leaf lurking somewhere underneath. If I REALLY try, I can taste the earthy sweetness of the rooibos – But I can’t see it, and it seems to be easily lost in this mix. I use this tea not only to relax but also to help with my allergies – the nettle leaf in it is supposed to be really good, and it definitely takes away some of the itchiness I get in my throat.
I can drink this one day and night, and often do – though my rating may be biased because I love floral teas and I love cinnamon, don’t be scared to give it a try! It truly is a beautiful blend.

drank Pitta Ayurvedic by DAVIDsTEA

This tea tastes exactly like the fruity, yellow Trident gum. I think it’s passion berry or tropical twist or something or other. It smells like it, too. I love it to bits, and it’s certainly part of my permanent collection. I don’t know if it does anything to keep me from being angry, but it definitely tastes absolutely delicious. I’m in love with the citrus-y floral flavour, and I actually quite like that I can’t put my finger on exactly what I’m tasting at each moment. As long as it makes me feel good and happy, it’s doing its job.

As a side note, contrary to what another person said, this tea doesn’t make me sleepy. But I’ve found that certain ingredients in tea definitely have different effects on different people, so try it out for yourself and see what happens :-)

What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I like this? I’ll have to try it again, but I expected this to be so much better than it was. Instead of being creamy, smooth and fruit loopy, it was bitter, harsh and hard to drink. Maybe next time!

Profile

Bio

I am a student on a mission to spend all of my hard earned cash on tea, and don’t have time to waste on a bad cup of tea!
I love DavidsTea, mostly because it is easily accessible for me and I like my tea on the sweeter side. I’m looking to expand further into the tea world, especially in terms of oolong and herbal teas.
My favourite teas are anything spicy, especially with cloves and/or cinnamon, anything nutty, minty, earthy, floral or citrus-y.
I am forever on a mission for a life altering grapefruit tea.
