Yesterday in a meeting, I sat beside a man who told me that he drinks mostly Darjeeling tea. He told me that the amount of tea that the region actually produces is so small that all the tea that is labeled Darjeeling couldn’t possibly be. Kind of like the tea world’s version of the common virgin olive oil frauds. I realized that I don’t remember having had a cup of anything even purporting to be Darjeeling, so I went down to David’s for a cup today. I liked it. Authentic or not, I found it to be a very drinkable every day tea.

I liked this rooibos when I first tried it. But there is something in the flavor—some artificiality—that really puts me off. Yesterday afternoon the weather was cold, wet and raw and I needed a hot beverage without caffeine. So I gave this a try again, and it was okay. Still a little something not quite right though.

This was the second time I have tasted this tea. I was unimpressed the first time around. But today I felt like having a mild slightly sweet black tea—this filled the bill nicely.

This was the tea of the day down at David’s. I tasted the sample and said, “meh,” but it was promising enough to ask for a cup sweetened with a little honey. The honey seemed to add to the complexity, and it was quite nice for dessert.

Okay, so I like rooibos in general, and I like caramel. But for some reason this tea just doesn’t do it for me. There is some other scent or flavor in there that is a bit gamey. That spoils it for me.

I had never before tried a milk oolong, so I didn’t know what to expect. This is like a cup of hot milk before bed. Liquid comfort food.

It is really cold in Boston today, and I found myself craving this tea. It’s like my own personal fireplace!

My second try of this one and it is just not doing it for me. The first time all I could taste was pecan, which was okay, but I wanted more maple. This time, with a shorter steep, I’m not even getting pecan. It is a pleasant enough, mild, sort of yeasty oolong, but not what I was looking for.

I haven’t had David’s Tea non-flavored tea before. This was good. I’ll get a cup now and then when they have it.

Formerly exclusively a coffee drinker—-plain black. But I’ve turned over a new leaf, and now consume tea in the afternoons and evenings. And I love flavored, interesting teas—but I get bored with them quickly, and so need lots to switch around.
