237 Tasting Notes
OH. MY. GOD. I love this. It tastes like a butter cookie when it is very warm, then as it cools, the taste is more like an almond cookie. If you let it cool even more, it’s exactly like dipping one of those Breaktime coconut cookies in coffee. There is a slight coffee like quality to it, mj don’t worry, it’s not like that! I put raw sugar and a tiny bit of cream in my cup, because when the name of a tea is cookie, you can do that.
If someone that never had a pear smelled this dry leaf, they would expect a pear to taste sour and also like dried prunes. I am really not getting pear from this, but hey, sometimes, the scent of the dry leaf is weird and the steep in wonderful, so I’ll stop being mean about it and just try.
Oh yes, that’s pear. Rest assured, no sourness or prunes. I love the spices , and although the pear notes could be a bit more natural, and the spices a bit more tame the combination with the spices is interesting. Pear has such a delicate flavour though, I feel like it’s getting somewhat ruined by all that ginger. And then the cardamom. The cinnamon would’ve been enough. I think I remember mj1851 wasn’t crazy about this, but I actually enjoy it. I can’t say that I would necessarily buy it, but it won’t be one of those samples that I feel resentful about and force myself to drink to make it disappear.
Just wanted to add that the company’s website definitely needs a bit of love, just saying.
Ok, I’ll take a break from Lupicia until mj1851 posts some of her own reviews, and I’ll move on to this lovely blend that I’ve just been dying to try. This a sample from my girl mj1851, but I won’t lie: I almost bought it about 5 times before trying to knock some sense into myself like “But you have some coming! STOP!”
The moment is here! I really couldn’t tell you anything about the dry leaf other than it looks good and it smells good, as I was in way too much of a hurry to pour this into my mouth as quickly as possible. The cup I’m holding smells divine: malt, intense honey and raw sugar. As it hits my tongue, the malt is very pleasant, and although it is undeniably there, the honey notes are not as strong as I expected. Is there Darjeeling in this? There’s something that would make me think so, towards the end of the sip. There’s a pleasant nuttiness that wraps itself around the other flavours. The slight astringency makes it even more interesting.
I like it a lot. Add to cart.
Haha get your Lupicia on! I’m watching family guy Star Wars spoofs with friends so I won’t be drinking tea until late tonight
Gurl, I got me enough teas to try to last me like 3 months, so it’s really not an issue. I like seeing what you think before I try something too, it’s super interesting to compare my taste to yours. Happy Family Guy!
I’ve tried a lot of chocolate flavoured teas now, and I’ve yet to find one that has what I’m looking for: dark chocolate taste, with the depth of cocoa powder without bitterness or that weird alcoholic taste that seems to come with chocolate flavouring a lot of the time.
Oh wait, what am I talking about? This is it. The flavour is not oddly thick, or watery. The base is just detectable enough to be enjoyable, it does not take over. There’s a tiny bit of milk chocolate at the beginning of the sip, and it develops into dark chocolate followed by beautiful plain cocoa notes. It is not overbearing or lacking, it’s just nice.
I would love to try to mix this with one of my chocolatier plain black teas. I’m sure the end result would be gorgeous.
My first Lupicia tea! I split an order with the amazing mj1851 and she shipped it out to me 7 days ago, telling me it would take 2-3 weeks. It came early: awesome! The box was really beat up but the content was not: bonus!
The dry leaf aroma is out of this world. I just think of fruit drenched in syrup, and I also of grenadine. The liquid form is just as sweet, but the addition of the malt of the base makes it even better. As soon as it hits my tongue, I think honey, and jam. It’s hard to describe the fruit flavour…Strawberries? Cherries? Something like pineapple? I bet this would make an awesome cold brew.
Wooo I’m glad it got there early! I’ve been holding off on trying any because it seemed like cruel and unusual punishment for you to be reading reviews for our order while having to wait weeks for yours to arrive :-)
Lolll omg I love you! You were absolutely right to do that, and thank you for being such a nice person. You just get it :P Seems unfair that I’m the one posting the first review, since you did all the work! Btw, I gave my mother a bit of Butiki’s Raspberry Truffle that you sent me, because when I mentionned it she started getting very agitated and bright eyed, so your generosity is spreading even further than you thought. Thank you so much for doing all of this, it really means a lot. EVERYONE: mj1851 is the bomb!
Haha, not unfair at all! I’m more than happy for you to post the first review. I’m glad your Mom got to share in the tea love too! I hope she liked it :-). And, also Virgnia is generous to a fault! We may have a mutual admiration club going but that doesn’t diminish the truthfulness of that statement.
Chocolate. Pure and simple. Yum. To me, it’s more milk chocolate than dark chocolate, but I’m not complaining, because this is a very well executed chocolate tea. I wish I would’ve overleafed just a bit. I feel like that would really make it YUM as opposed to Yum. Another sample from MissB :)
Boo. I am so disappointed. I was expecting so much more out of this. I bought the SBT Butterbeer pouch and it was epic: tasted exactly like I expected it to. Butterscotch, malt and butter$. This one tastes similar, but toned way down. Maybe it’s lost some of it’s flavour over time? I really don’t know.
Thank you so much MissB for sending this :)
I hate it when that happens! If you really need some butterbeer, try this recipe:

It’s a total pain but it tastes pretty much exactly like the one they sell at Harry Potter World.
OMG girl!! Only the best theme park there ever was:

I can’t believe you’ve never heard of it!!
