I had this one years ago and have not been able to find it locally again. One of the best orange pekoes I’ve tried.

Again I must repeat, Twinings US tea bags are made for 6 oz cups…not the huge mugs most people use to brew tea, so if it tastes weak to you that may be the issue.

Wow! This is really strong. The first cup I made was in 6 oz of water and was completely overwhelmed by the bergamot. Second attempt was in 8 oz and mellowed it a bit and made it somewhat more drinkable. This is so strong that it is spicey and resembles an herbal tea. Not bad at all actually, just too much for my palate to take all at once. For bergamot fans (notice I did not type Earl Grey fans) only.

N.B. Bergamot extract is used here and not “flavoring” like in Twinings, so be cautious if you have a temperamental tummy.

I don’t know about Twinings but I wrote Ahmad about the use of flavoring and was told they use crystals made from freeze dried bergamot. They say it keeps and steeps better. I know Bigelow use to tear my stomach up something fierce – of course I was drinking multiple pots a day.

Believe it or not Ahmad’s Earl Grey is one I’d like to try next. I read your review and it moved me to order it online. :)

If you are pleased with it – their Darjeeling and Number 1 teas are also great value teas. If you don’t like… I have no idea who wrote that review ;-)

I like Stash Double Bergamot for iced tea.

drank British Blend by Tetley

This is the supposedly British version of Tetley marketed to the US. I’m not sure if it is the exact same blend as found in the UK, but to me it tastes kind of weak. Hopefully the Tetley across the pond is stronger!

PG Tips or Yorkshire blow this away, however, it is better than Lipton….barely.

I suggest you try Numi teas, Mighty Leaf, Two Twigs and a Leaf, and RIshi for a more decent bagged teas that sells at decent prices and gives all the flavor per buck ! Numi is good at blended teas and flavored teas rich in spices and herbs, Mighty Leaf may sell 15 bags than the usual 20 or more but its a tablespoon per bag! Not bad either but certainly the best for me I love their herbal blends and their black and green teas that are actually loose leaf teas that are bagged. Two Twigs and a bud is much the same with Mighty Leaf though I have not tried it enough to say much about , and lastly Rishi has a vast tea variety that are best known for their matcha drinks and their iced tea drinks that are quite tasty on a hots summers day! So, this is basically my recommendation I have not listed all the companies lol but what ever you find out there to you liking: grab it, take and love it! Welcome to the tea journey adventure waiting for you!

Thanks Anthony! I was planning on trying Mighty Leaf next after Stash’s Double Bergamot Earl Grey.

I don’t find the British Blend weak, but it is easily bitter. This blend is better than Tetley’s regular blend, and IMO just about anything is better than Lipton. :))

drank English Breakfast by Twinings
18 tasting notes

Though I love good strong black teas, this one is mild but redeems itself with its wonderful sublime taste. Mellow and delicious. Drunk with milk and some sugar this is quite good.

This was my standard cuppa for a long time until I moved on to stronger stuff. ;)

drank Irish Breakfast by Twinings

A good basic Assam by Twinings. Not as strong as Yorkshire or PG Tips, though a bit stronger than their own English Breakfast. A very serviceable black tea which should be taken with milk.

In a pinch if I want a decent black tea I go for this if my PG Tips is out.

When I want something “special” I go to this tried and true friend. A basic Earl Grey with no frills…which is fine by me. Not too strong or light. I’ve seen other reviews that say this tea is weak, not so! Brew it in 6 oz of water (for the American sized tea bags) and the taste will be just fine. Add a dab of milk and sugar and prepare to be amazed.

My dessert tea. :)

My paternal grandmother is an English lady and she turned me on to this tea. This is my everyday tea and WOW is it ever good. I like my tea strong and this stuff is very strong. With some sugar in the raw and splash of milk…mmmmmmmm
If you want a good British cuppa, this is it.
