54 Tasting Notes

If you enjoy Darjeeling teas that offer taste with multiple infusions this Darjeeling Sungma First Flush 2014 from Happy Earth Tea is one of those teas. Just because this tea is no longer offered on their site doesn’t mean you can’t try one of their many other Darjeelings. Take a look at their site and find something that makes you do a double-take. I bet you find at least one! I found several I was interested in trying!

My sample package of this tea says Kenya Zebra Sencha Tea From Green Tea Lovers or Sencha Zebra (Kenya) as it is listed on their website is an interesting green tea. The leaves are unlike other Senchas or Green Teas I have had before. These appear to be a greyish-light-brown that are randomly flattened but not completely flatted such as those you would see being paper thin…these have a three- layer dimensional view to them. The aroma of the dry leaf is more reminiscent of a gentle pu-erh than a green.

BACKLOG but a GOODIE

This review will be one of the my lengthiest reviews to date here are Sororitea Sisters and it’s because of Kashima: Monoucha Genmaicha ‘Tsukihime’, Ishinomaki Brown Rice Tea From Kashima Tea Garden/Yunomi.us & Kumamoto Earthquake Tea Fund Announcement. Yes! It serves a duel purpose.

I have a special place in my heart for Tea At Sea…teas!
Read about it here…

As long as you don’t over infuse this one you should have ‘smooth sailin’ with this one. Pardon the pun but seriously…Mountain Organic Indonesian Oolong Tea from Tea At Sea is a nice, solid yet smooth, greener tasting oolong that I enjoyed very much!

Upon opening this sample packet of Peach Matcha from 3 Leaf Tea I was smacked in the face with intense peach aroma. I LOVED the scent of this Peach Matcha! It made me wonder if it was going to be ALL Peach and NO Matcha when it came to flavor. Let me tell you that was NOT the case. Once I whisked my hot matcha up in my cup I took my first sip and what I found was MAJOR defined and STRONG green matcha flavor with an underlying peach flavor! This strong matcha base is not for wimps! It’s of the stronger matchas I have sipped on that is for sure!

What a pleasant surprise…Lavender Spell Tea from TeaBox! Of course the aroma of Lavender Spell Tea from TeaBox is that of lavender and that is only ‘helped’ by the secondary aroma of sweet greens. When it comes to taste the lavender is first and foremost followed by a bit of menthol minty-ness. The best part of this tea is the combo of ingredients which is black tea, lavender, and cornflower. The cornflower – I feel – is mostly for show – but – could could possible add a bit of floral flavor to it as well.

I was quite surprised with this product and will be mentioning it to MANY. I was able to sneak one of their other flavors and will be doing a review of that in the neat future, too, and let me tell you that was impressive as well! Pique Tea is a game changer! There…I said it!

Maybe it’s because it’s a First Flush. Maybe it’s because of the crisp floral notes. Perhaps it’s because of the astringency. Or maybe Everest First Flush Black Tea from Nepali Tea Traders reminds me of a Darjeeling because of the look and feel.
