I opened that bag and saw a whole walnut in the bag. That was very intriguing. After trying the popcorn one yesterday, I was pretty excited to try this one. I wasn’t so sure I’d be a Davids fan as I really don’t like Teavana, but I’m really enjoying their stuff. This tea did not disappoint. And I have never liked chocolate in teas. I’ve tried all kinds and I just don’t enjoy that flavor mixed with tea. Maybe I just don’t like chocolate mixed with black tea, who knows? Regardless, I like this one. I brewed this up and sat outside and watched the Big kId, the Little Man, and the Bean go on hikes in the back yard. All was right in the universe for a few minutes.

drank Salted Caramel by DAVIDsTEA

I love Salted Caramel. I’m a salt junkie, so I’m pretty much on board with adding salt to anything. While I didn’t really taste the salt in this per se, I loved the burnt sugar flavor. As always, I added raw honey and frothed up some hot milk in my milk cafe (I need to review that on this site, it’s the best), and I’ve found a new favorite tea latte flavor. Next time I’ll add a little flake salt like they do at Starbucks for their salted caramel latte and see what happens. This one is definitely a keeper.

Hurting today. Stayed up last night like I was a much younger version of myself forgetting that my 15 month old likes to wake up at the crack of dawn these days. I brewed this one extra strong and drank 2 full mugs full before even contemplating food. This stuff is my go-to morning drink and I appreciate it even more on the days my body needs a little recovery. This and some B-vitamins. Almost human again.

I love Hojicha and I love Genmai Cha, so I thought I’d really enjoy this. And I did, but not as much as I’d hoped. It could have been that it was 12am and I’d had way too much to drink at a party or that I was beat tired trying to watch a less than stellar SNL, but either way, it was only so so. It had a nice butteriness to it, but was missing the slight salty roasty flavor I love in my Hojicha. I’ll try it again before rating it. Maybe with a little less prefunking.

I had to try this. It just sounded so wacky. And I’m incredibly embarrassed to say that I absolutely love it! It really does taste like a salty caramel popcorn. I could not drink it fast enough. I made my husband and 13 year old smell it and they thought I was certifiably nuts, but I don’t care. I’m buying this in large quantity to have when craving snacks.

drank Creamy Eggnog by Butiki Teas

Let me preface this by saying, I don’t really love green teas, and I’ve never really liked flavored green teas, but this one has such a strong presence on this site that I had to try it. And I have officially been converted. This tea is so good. It has the perfect creaminess and flavor but not perfumey. Like the leaves naturally come flavored like that. I will definitely be keeping this stocked.

drank Tamarind Pop by Butiki Teas

I’m not sure I’ve ever had Tamarind soda before or what tamarind tastes like. But I do know that this tea is really smooth and tasty with some honey and milk. I’m now curious to find a tamarind soda to compare it to!

ChariTea

So interesting! I have never heard of tamarind soda before either. I will definitely have to make an order soon :)

OMGsrsly

If you can find tamarind candies, they are delicious. Such a unique flavour!

It was actually a tad sunny here this afternoon, so the kids and I played outside. The little man had his jeans on backwards, orange rain boots, and his blue fleece coat on, unzipped with no shirt on underneath. And we played in the front yard for all the world to see. You see, the mailman would be arriving any minute. I had been waiting all day for his arrival. And it was close to 4pm at this point. When we saw him coming, all three of us ran to meet him.

Our mailman is not your average mailman, he’s straight out of sesame street. Knows all the kids names, what’s going on in the neighborhood, loves to chat endlessly. And I normally enjoy it, but today I wanted to grab my package from him and run inside to get tasting. I was as nice as I could be under the circumstances, but my first order from Butiki was in my hands, and I had things to do.

I had a pretty decent selection to choose from, but enjoy flavored black teas in the afternoon, so I went with the pumpkin creme brûlée. Smelled a lot spicier than I expected, but I never tip my nose up to a little extra spice. I steeped it a little longer than the suggested 2.5 mins, but I like my black teas pretty strong. Then I added a very slight amount of brown rock sugar per the websites instructions. I’ve tried brown rock sugar on a number of occaisions, but I just really love raw honey in my tea. So after a few sips trying to drink the tea the “right” way, I caved and added my honey and a splash of steamed milk and a dollop of froth. My first thought as the tea went down, “Holy crap, I just love tea.”

This is a really great flavored black tea. Not perfumey at all, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I love the spice and was surprised at how spicy the tea remained after a second steep (with no milk or honey in the second cup).

This will definitely be taking up residence on my shelf. I can’t wait to try the next one!

What other teas did you order, if you don’t mind me asking? Adding this one to my list of “to buy”’s. Sounds yummy!

TastyBrew

I’m a samples junkie so I ordered samples of:

Pumpkin Creme Brûlée
Almond Indulgence
Tamarind Pop
Creamy Eggnog
Pistachio Ice Cream
Potato Pancakes & Applesauce
The Killer’s Vanilla
Winter Fire

Looking forward to trying new teas all weekend!

Emily M

Nice! I look forward to your reviews. I’ve had the Creamy Eggnog and the Pistachio Ice Cream before, but the rest are ones I haven’t tried yet. Hope you enjoy them! =)
I’m also a bit of a samples junkie. It’s a good way to try a bunch of things out without committing to them.

TastyBrew

Yeah, I go nuts on the upton site since their samples are generally only a $1. One time bought about 30 $1-$3 samples of all their single estate assams to try and find the “ultimate” one. I would try two head to head every morning. I prefer one (Halmara Estate CTCBOP) that’s not too well liked around this site, but to each their own!

*Halmari not Halmara

Emily M

Yeah, I also place big sample orders from Upton. It’s so easy and cheap, I just can’t control myself!

TastyBrew

Totally!

After the Rishi GenMai with matcha yesterday that was brewed with 1 Tbsp per cup that was super strong, but also super tasty, I decided to try this one with a little extra in the basket too. Not quite 2 Tbsp, but about 4 tsp (for my 16 oz mug). I only steeped it for about a minute and I think Rishi has it right with this one. You gotta start with more tea in the basket. I don’t want to use less and steep for longer as it gets bitter super fast. From now I’m brewing this type with a minimum of 2 tsp per cup. As expected, the second steep doesn’t have the matcha flavor, but the genmai cha is still tasty. And with the extra tea in there, it’s much stronger.

Fun when you stumble upon a new and improved way of doing things!

I was looking forward to this part of the day all day. Settling in the couch with the big kid (13) to watch Community and enjoy my toasty tea in my cast iron pot. It used to be a beer. And sometimes still is. But man, these roasty toasty teas are really good for the end of the night! And just slightly healthier…

I love tea. And I love beer. I spent my twenties thoroughly enjoying all that beer has to offer but now that I’m into my thirties and a stay at home mom of 2 little kids and 1 big kid, I spend more time enjoying tea.

I joined steepster in Feb 2013 and it’s crazy how much my tastes have changed since joining. Before, I liked cream and honey in all teas and loved mostly dessert blacks. Now I almost rarely drink them, but enjoy them from time to time. What I love more than anything are straight rich black teas, Fujian, Laoshan, Rizhao, etc… I also love pretty much any black tea that the little leaf hoppers have gotten their teeth on.

I’m still not too into the green/white/oolong varieties. I keep trying to but my tastes are evolving pretty slowly on that front.

Overall, I just enjoy tea. Something about it that just settles me.
