330 Tasting Notes

I don’t like coconut in foodstuffs, generally. Something about the texture of shredded coconut on my teeth just hits me wrong. And generally the scent is overwhelming.

But I find that I actually like it in tea, strangely enough. Well, tea, and a coconut milk cooked rice that I’ve had here and there, but I digress.

Had this today iced with a packet of splenda, no milk. Got it too sweet but otherwise, pretty refreshing.

I drank the second cup as a latte. It’s way too late for caffeinated beverages, so I’m going to lie awake tonight. But I’ll be fantasizing about the Captain whilst doing so.

So this is my first time trying a loose tea from a higher end company. I’ve had Twinings, and Mighty Leaf, and Adagio. Now this.

First impressions – man, I love their sense of design. Just opening the box was a treat. Then to open the tins (I got the set with this and the Mermaid’s tea). An A&D patch, temporary tattoos, and the art on the tins. It’s all so awesome!

This tea itself – the leaves look and smell so good. It reminded me in scent of the Keemun Rhapsody I have, which is my current favorite. I steeped this in my IngenuiTea, for the prescribed 4 minutes, and then immediately added water after decanting it into my little glass teapot for admiration. It’s a beautiful color, a deep golden brown.

Taste – the first sip had a little bitter undertone that worried me, but it doesn’t stick around. I think I’ll try a lower temperature for the next brewing. Still, very enjoyable. I’m drinking this cup straight. I definitely look forward to trying a little milk and cream. I think that will be delicious.

Used up my last of the sample I got today. I really like this iced. It’s great unsweetened, very smooth and fruity. I might actually get more of this, but I think I’ll see if anyone out there has a Peach Ginger in a loose leaf tea.

Steeped this while driving to the fast food joint (not my first choice, but I realized in the car that I had forgotten my wallet, and scrambled for change in the console) and back. Still good, no bitterness. I had gotten a cup of ice with my order and dumped it in to cool it.

Really good with my salad and sandwich.

Trying this again as an iced tea.

I just don’t like it as much as the Peach Ginger from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea. Its not as pleasant. I think it’s the tea base that does it for me.

I have 3 bags left, I might try brewing two bags at once for the next batch, and to use it up faster.

Dangit, I didn’t put enough of the little pearls in my cup this morning, so I got barely flavored water. Le sigh. And then it cooled because I went to a meeting. So unfortunately, I didn’t get a good cup this morning. Now I am coding, and I need a stiffer beverage, to keep me awake. Out it gets dumped.

Using up the last serving of this. The sampler tin is empty!

I am having this with my late breakfast of an English muffin and sausage patties, enjoying the last of the morning on my couch. Hopefully the sausage won’t affect my taste buds too much!

Brewed in my ingenuiTea. The tea brewed very dark while I fixed my brekky, so it probably went at least 5 minutes, i guess. After I decanted into my mug, I immediately added more water for a second brew, so it will steep awhile.

I’m not getting much taste out of it this morning, but like I said, the sausage might be overwhelming it a bit. Smells nice, not really a jump up and hit you scent. I might amend that after the allergy pill kicks in though.

Ok, breakfast is finished, and a few sips have been downed, and it hasn’t changed to the taste. It still seems like a fairly basic tea to me, nothing outstanding or unique. Not unpleasing, but not impressive either. I don’t think I’ll look to order more.

Sipping a cuppa while trying to work on Dropbox’s Dropquest. Stuck on Chapter 3, and I peek at their Facebook page to see someone referencing Chapter 22. It’s not worth my whole day for a gig of space! sheesh.

Anyway, a teaspoon of sugar, milk, and whipped a bit with my frother for a latte. That frother is the best Christmas present from my hubby EVAR.

I have hubby drinking tea now. I have never drank coffee at all, so with only one person drinking it, he kind of gave it up – it wasn’t worth brewing a pot full just for him, in his opinion. Started him on loose EG from Twinings, and then eased him over to this when I make a pot for me. I even have him liking Keemun Rhapsody. Converting him slowly! :D

After not using this for a year or so because I couldn’t get the replacement filter to go in, I tried pouring boiling water in with the filter dropped in and let it sit for awhile. Then drained it, and the filter was pliable enough to pop in. I swear I had tried it back then, but it didn’t work. Oh well.

It worked well to get me into using loose teas back when I first picked it up, so I would say I got my money’s worth and it was useful for that. But these days, I don’t find it any harder to toss some leaves in the metal basket of one of my teapots and pouring in water. I am dirtying just as many items either way.

Plus, I’m trying to get away from plastic foodstuffs, so we will see how much I use it now that it has a new filter. I am contemplating taking it to work and leaving it there. We’ll see.

When I was a very young child, I swallowed an ice cube whole. It got stuck in my throat, and my mother had me drink hot tea to melt it away. That started a love affair with tea that has never abated.

I dabbled with Celestial Seasonings and other grocery store teabags for awhile, in my young and foolish days. But a few years ago, I received a tea of the month subscription from Adagio, and I found that there was a whole other world of tea out there that I had never experienced.

I love drinking tea, and I love the personal ceremony of making a glass or pot of tea for myself. It’s like a meditation.
