67 Tasting Notes
I’m not a fan of iced tea, unlike my Mom, the Iced Tea Queen. Mom bought a 12 pack of this, thinking it was the diet version (she’s on a strict no-sugar diet). So she nagged me to drink it. I tentatively tried a bottle and braced for impact.
About a dozen 12 packs later, I think I can say that this is an iced tea that people who do not like iced tea will like. It’s very sweet but not syrupy and doesn’t leave a coating on yoru tongue that you later need a glass of cold water to wash off. It’s really good when you wake up in the middle of the night and your mouth is really dry and you need something to cut the thirst but your tap water is kinda dodgy.
Goes well with food or by itself. One day I may fill up an ice cube tray with this and freeze it to see if it makes a decent popsicle … but that would take effort.
I was visiting my Dad and his wife one weekend and ran out of the teabags I had packed. (Dad & my stepmother are coffee drinkers. I, as usual, had completely underestimated the amount of tea I drink in a weekend.) But he had bought me a box of this in honor my stay. Since he didn’t have a kettle, I had to brew this in the microwave. The results did not look promising.
But the tea actually came out well. It’s one of the best things Lipton has ever put out. I’m starting to think there isn’t any actual green tea in it, but black tea and powdered heroin or something, because every couple of months I buy a box, if I happen to find it.
Most green teas need delicate and careful handling, but you can really abuse this tea and still get a decent cup. I think it tastes best with using only hot water but I’ve accidentally used boiling water and the results were pretty much the same. It goes better with food than drunk all by it’s lonesome.
My Mom (not to be confused with my stepmother) likes to drink this hot or iced.
Preparation
Found this in the Stash Organic variety pack. I was a little wary at first seing green tea was blended in, but this is a very smooth, mellow, almost nostaligic Chai which is nice by itself or with food. It’s a nice tea to drink as a change of pace in between other flavors of tea. If you light a joss stick, dim the lights and turn on a lava lamp and a Beatles album, the experience would be complete.
Preparation
You have got to be kidding me. The box has more taste. (Yes — I tried. I was desperate.) However, my Mom really enjoys it, so that’s why it has as high a rating as it does. I’m not into white tea, but people who are (like my Mom) may find this refreshing. Personally, I can’t find the point.
Preparation
This post had me cracking up!
In my experience, CS teas always taste of either nothing or hibiscus. :-/ Maybe my tongue just isn’t nuanced enough to discover the subtle flavors…but if that’s the case them flavors are reeeeeeeeeeeally subtle.
My Mom’s staple tea for the last few months, but I have no idea why. It’s BEYOND INFURIATING. There’s promise of taste that never delivers. You could put five bags in one mug and still not taste a bloody thing.
The American blend is different from the UK blend. This is because the UK blend is not 100% decaffinated (I think it’s 2%). That does have a taste to it, but the US version is a crime (or should be a crime). Even the cheapest chamomile bagged tea has more taste and better aroma than this.
Preparation
Wimpy and basically tasteles, so it goes well with food. Also helps with menstrual cramps and digestive upsets. The teabags can be used for a variety of purposes like soothing sore eyes or a patch of itchy skin. They also make a nice SPLAT when you hurl them against a wall or at someone you particularly dislike.
Preparation
This is very good strong store brand of UK tea (also available in some Canadian shops), but it does not hold up after repeated cups. It does brew faster than many other brands. It seems to leave an aftertaste after two or three cups, so I only have one cup a day whenever I can convince my Canadian relatives to ship me a box, since I don;t live in the UK anymore. I like it better than Yorkshire tea in the red label.
Preparation
Typhoo is one of those brands so identified with the UK that you really want to like it, but it’s really weak and flat in comparison to many other brands. It is better than nothing. Anyway, what do you expect from a company that has a slogan of “Making Good Tea Since 1903”. I’m not interested in “good” tea — I want great tea!
Preparation
Did I somehow get a bad box? It tastes like hot water, even steeped for 4 -5 minutes. Definately nowhere near a “champagne of teas”. What a dissapointment! However, other family members and friends like it, which is why I gave it as high a rating as I did.
This is actually a pretty good softdrink! I don’t really think of it as tea, but it is a really nice, sweet thirst quencher. The raspberry does taste pretty fake, though.
But a nice kind of fake. I think Lipton is owned by Pepsi, which may expalin why it does taste soft drink-ish.
