737 Tasting Notes
I was super excited that Cameron B. gave me the opportunity to try this. I have wanted to try Mariage Frères for a long time since it seems like such a popular company.
Today was actually the best day I’ve had physically this entire year, so I got to try a bunch of black teas that have been waiting for me to try! Figured it was about time I tried this one!
So, if the black tea base was not so strong I probably would have liked this a lot more. But for the most part, when I drink a flavored tea I don’t really wanna taste the base of the tea, unless it really complements the flavors well. Which kinda feels rare in my book. :( I feel like black teas must just be hard to flavor because they tend to overrule the other flavors.
I really like the strawberry and creamy notes in this tea. The black tea base kinda ruined it for me. It really overpowered the cup, so that was a bummer. If they had made the flavors a bit more strong this tea would be perfect!
Least in my book. But clearly this one isn’t for me.
Thanks for the sample, Cameron B.!
Flavors: Creamy, Smooth, Strawberry
So disappointed with this one. D: I thought that it would be more fruity and sweet, but it wasn’t. It just tasted like oolong and kinda vegetable-ish. The only fruity flavor was apricot. It tasted ever so faintly of apricot, but that was it. :( Sad times…
Well thank you for the sample, Darby! Glad to have not wasted my money!!
Flavors: Apricot, Vegetables
I find I need to have several of the fruit chunks in my teabag for this one to taste the best – maybe your sample didn’t have enough of those?
Did they really change it, OMGsrsly? I am pretty sure that they changed Movie Night last year, and now it’s not as good too :(
Raven22 it actually did have a decent amount of chunks. The dry leaf smelled amazing-like candy! It totally screwed me over hahah the sweet smell betrayed me! D:
Yeah. The first time I bought it the pineapple pieces were very tiny and it was super fresh and juicy with a background of floral. I have some that Dex sent near the end of last summer, and it’s almost soapy and too floral and the pineapple chunks are HUGE.
Wow. So I usually like floral teas. I really do. But…this one…
I mean it’s definitely floral. No doubt about it.
But it also tastes a lot like flowers too.
When I opened the bag of this tea it smelled like trees, like as if I were in the woods or something, which was what I was expecting.
But when I went to take a sip there were no trees at all. It was all like flowers and a weird creamy almost peachy flavor?
I don’t know. This is a really really odd tea. I’m not really digging the flowers in this one to be honest. 0_0 I don’t really think that this one is for me. D:
I’m sooo glad that MzPriss was generous enough to send me a sample. THere were so many times that I almost bought this one. Glad I didn’t!
This is seriously like “The Flower Power” tea. Which kinda reminds me of the Producers movie…But that’s what I would re-name this one if I could haha!
Not a horrible tea, it’s just too much for me.
Thank you so much for the sample, MzPriss!!
Flavors: Creamy, Floral, Flowers, Peach
Glad to read this review. I’ve been waiting for this tea to come back in stock, but now I will skip it. I don’t really care for floral. It also seems to give me some nasal congestion (perfume does, too) so I think that I may have a slight allergy or sensitivity to it. So thanks again!
Got a sample of this tea from The Cookie Lady in the package she sent me for Christmas! Never heard of this tea company before or anything, but the name made me curious. So I had to try!
Wasn’t expecting it to be that great, but I was actually pleasantly surprised!
If I hadn’t oversteeped it by a minute or two it would have been perfect!
It actually did taste like rice pudding. Well, mainly the pudding part. It tasted creamy and pudding-y. I don’t know how to describe it xD
I could taste the black tea base a bit too much, but I think that it would have been more subtle if I didn’t oversteep it.Overall it was an enjoyable tea!
I will enjoy sipping this one down. Thank you so much, The Cookie Lady!
Flavors: Creamy, Rice Pudding, Smooth
Wasn’t sure what to expect since I haven’t like most of the What-Cha teas but I was pleasantly surprised with this one.
It’s kinda malty. Kinda fruity. Kinda earthy.
The first two flavors I like, but not so much the third one. I feel that this tea has the potential of letting the earthiness overrule it if you steep it too long, but I steeped it for like 2 and a half minutes and it was okay.
I do really like the malty and fruity flavors. If they were stronger in this tea I’d probably consider buying again. But for now I’m good with a sample of this tea. (:
Flavors: Earth, Fruity, Malt, Smooth
Sooo tried this one yesterday, but had to stop drinking it half way through becuase my body decided that I wasn’t already miserable enough pain wise, so I randomly got nauseous. >>
Don’t know how much I qualify for writing a tasting note, but I don’t want to hurry and drink it again because I need to qualify for writing a tasting note. xD I’d rather just save it for a special occasion.
Anyway, the point is, I have to save this tea for special occasions because like the other tea that I ordered, it’s pretty stinkin’ good, and I need to savor it.
The dry leaf aroma is definitely stronger than the steeping aroma. I opened my Butiki box and I was hit by the banana smell. xD It was crazy-haha!
When I was drinking it I mainly tasted bananas and some notes of walnut here and there. Not much butterscotch. But that’s probably because I could only drink half of the mug :( Sad times…. :( Health issues really suck sometimes.
But that half of a mug was still really delicious. And I am sure I will thoroughly enjoy it when I drink it more. This one also makes me wish that Stacey wasn’t leaving. xD
And this definitely helped her go out with a bang too!
This tea is such a win!
Thank you so much for making this-this one is really going to make everyone miss you even more, Stacey! D:
Flavors: Fruity, Sweet, Walnut
Well yeah, it just kinda seems lame to be rating an amazing tea when I was only able to drink half a cup. Haha I don’t know, I just feel extra lame when my health issues ruin things like this, Sil! It’s hard to explain haha
aaah! no i can follow that. it was just you wrote a note like that and then like 3 other ppl had stacy notes and i was like shit? do i have to qualify for the sale by writing a note? what did i miss!!!!!
AHHHHHHH THIS FREAKIN’ TEA.
Way to go out with a bang, Stacy!
First off the oolong base is just so perfect for this tea. It adds to the kind of nutty flavor that reminds me of almonds. Plus since the Maple Pecan tea had an oolong base, it was very fitting that this maple tea also has an oolong base.
Anyway, when I opened the bag all I could smell was waffles and syrup. Don’t know if there was an actual waffle flavoring added to this tea, but the dry leaf smell was seriously spot on!
When I was steeping it, the aroma mellowed out some, but was still strong.
But when I began drinking it, I was hit by all the flavors at once. Not even joking-this tea is super strong. Ridiculously sweet-in a good way!
It literally tastes like waffles and maple syrup in liquid form, with a hint of nuttiness. I seriously don’t know how she does it, but this tea is a freakin’ masterpiece.
You don’t even need sweetener! It’s that sweet.
This tea is absolutely delicious. I probably won’t be able to get more but mannn I am going to savor what I have.
In conclusion, this is another win from Butiki!
Stacy-you have done it again! Mann we will all miss you so much. Thank you for this amazing tea-you are certainly going out with a bang!!
Flavors: Almond, Maple Syrup, Nutty, Sweet
Hahaha. It is Stacy but I never correct anyone since even my relatives spell my name wrong. We did add waffle flavoring to this one. Really happy with this one. I feel like it was one of the best that I’ve done. :)
Haha I must change the spelling! I saw it spelled with an “e” in it on one note and then it just got in my head-haha! I’m sorry! XD And it’s definitely one of my favorite teas I’ve had from you-thank you soo soo much again!!!
This was a sample in my What Cha order. I don’t even remember noticing this one on the website. But since most of the teas in my order didn’t really suit me well, I assumed I wouldn’t like this one either.
I was pleasantly surprised!
It was definitely malty, not overly so, but enough to notice.
There’s another really strong flavor in this, but I can’t for the life of me think of what it is. People mention cocoa and chocolate notes, but I’m not really getting any of that.
I’m sure that the next time I drink this I’ll figure it out. But I do enjoy the maltiness of this one. (:
Thanks for the sample, What Cha!!
Flavors: Malt
Oops, for some reason sweet girl, Steepster says I’m not following you anymore :-(
Lets remedy that right now! :-)
