737 Tasting Notes
Last tea in my Butiki order! D:
So the dry leaf smell of this one was kinda bready, which I wasn’t expecting. For some reason I was not expecting to like this at all. I was expecting it to be woody and earthy for some reason….where I got that idea…I don’t know. xD So the dry leaf smell really threw me off.
And the actual taste even more!
It was kinda earthy and woody, but there was still a lot of malt. Not as much as Crimson Horizon but there was still a lot more than I expected!
Not my absolute favorite, and not something that I’m gonna only save for special occasions or something. It’s good, but not my favorite.
Flavors: Bread, Earth, Malt, Wood
This will seriously always be one of the best black teas I’ve ever tasted. I have been trying to save it but the other day I was really craving it so I splurged a bit.
Ughh it’s just so good.
Way better in real life than even in my memory!
Love this one!
I’m going to be heartbroken when I run out D:
Got this in my Butiki order. Was not really expecting to like it since I’m not so much into roasty oolongs.
But this one turned out to be okay. Not horrible.
Still pretty roasty, but it had floral notes, with a buttery undertone.
Wasn’t bad. But not my favorite. Might have to give it to someone else or something :S
Flavors: Butter, Floral, Roasted
a baked Ali Shan sounds awesome, I am sad I never did get around to being able to order from them before they closed. I think I might have to break out my tea roaster and roast up some Ali Shan
If you want, Amanda, I can send you some of this one! I’m not a huge fan, and since you’re interested I’m totally willing to send you some! You’d probably like it a lot more than me! Let me know (:
For the last week I have been drinking this one a lot more. Not sure why, but I keep finding myself wanting it. Seems like my tastes have changed a lot over the last year, so kinda surprised I still like this xD
But it’s a good tea for night, and travels well in a tumbler even. So works for me! :D
This was the first tea I tried from my order.
Tasted a lot of earth and apricot. A little too much earth for my taste. The honey notes make it a lot better for me, but still isn’t a tea I would savor…
I think that I might have to find a new home for this one, which is a bit of a bummer since I thought I’d like this one probably the best out of my order for some reason. xD
Oh well.
Glad I got to try. Now I don’t have to wonder if I totally missed out on an amazing tea. Not that it isn’t amazing. Just too much earthiness for me, but that’s okay. I’m picky haha!
Flavors: Apricot, Earth, Honey, Sweet
This. Freaking. Tea.
I got my last Butiki order in the mail and this is the second tea I have tried from it tonight (yes, my tasting notes are out of order but I loved this one too much to wait to write a review for the first tea!).
This makes me even more sad that I can never order again, oh how I wished I had found this tea earlier so I’d have had more time to stock up on it! Don’t know why it wasn’t more popular here. Weird.
Anyway!
The dry leaf aroma was pretty bready, which made me excited! While it steeped that aroma was replaced by just a really bold wave of black tea. It smelled so strong that it came off almost bitter, which dashed my hopes a bit.
But when I went to drink it everything changed!
Yeah, it had a bitter edge to it, but it was still smooth enough to make for a thoroughly pleasant cup.
The main taste in this one was malt.
I have been trying to search for the best malty teas, and holy Shanghai! This is one of the best I’ve ever had! It is a bummer that I didn’t try it earlier, but I’m so happy to have half an ounce of this one. It’s delicious!
If anyone gets this tea and hates it, hit me up, I’d probably be willing to swap for it! :D
If you like malty teas you will seriously lovee this one!
Another win from Butiki Teas!!
Flavors: Bitter, Malt, Smooth
OMG I love this tea. SO good. I have another CTC that’s similar, but less malty.
CTCs are my comfort teas. :D
I have only ever had one other CTC teas, it was just Harney & Sons.
If you have any recommendations, I’d love to know so I can try more, OMGsrsly!
Unfortunately everything is local. I love the Rungagora from teacentre.ca (if it was in stock I’d send you some, but it’s my precious). Also, Janet’s Special Teas in Sidney has one I’m really liking, a Bukhial. I’m sure you can find these teas elsewhere. I usually find CTC Assams, though, so Crimson Horizon is quite different.
Oh okay, well was worth asking. If you ever find a really good one that isn’t local, please let me know so I can buy it and try! (:
They’re pretty common teas. If you see a CTC from Rungagora or Bukhial (I think these are gardens?) then it’s probably the same one.
This was the last tea from The American Tea Room that I had to try.
I was really looking forward to this one and I totally got disappointed. :(
When I opened the bag it didn’t smell like vanilla, in fact, it smelled like chocolate.
So that was kinda weird.
The tea itself tastes extremely fake. Reminds me of Harney’s Vanilla Black tea which was really bad too…Oy…
This one is not for me :(
Flavors: Artificial
I haven’t had this in so long, I don’t know why I have forsaken this one. But I used to drink it so often at the beginning of last year.
Soo to celebrate my first day back to work this year I had this one when I got back home. (: It was way better than I remembered it to be. I love how much is in this blend. I taste bergamot, fruit, honey, sweetness. It’s just delicious!
If my health ever gets better enough to not have to take pain killers so much, I imagine myself drinking this much more often! :D
Flavors: Bergamot, Fruity, Honey, Smooth, Sweet
I always forget I have this tea-but it’s much better than using Butterfly Jasmine from DavidsTea in my tea tumbler. Today is my first day back at work. Can’t wait to go, and I’m glad I re-discovered this tea because it’s perfect for the mornings! :D
Flavors: Jasmine, Perfume, Smooth
Got this as a sample in the Lupicia newsletter this month. I got two newsletters for some reason. xD No idea how that happened.
But I was excited to try this tea.
Can’t really pick out the flavors because my druggy brain isn’t working right now. xD But oh well. It’s just really fruity. Not my favorite tea ever. But not bad.
Think I’ll pass this other tea bag off to someone else who will enjoy it more though. (:
Flavors: Fruity, Smooth
