I have not been able to brew much tea lately, and for the most part I have been putting up with cheap-o green tea bags during my work day. Today at work, I thought I would give this genmaicha a try to liven up my 9 to 5 a little.

This was my first rodeo with a tea of this variety, and it is safe to say that it will not be my last. I steeped this sachet in about 10 oz of just under boiling water (which is the best I can manage at work). At first I was taken aback by the flavor profile of this tea, it tasted like soup, not tea. The tasting notes on the front end of the sip could best be described as slightly salty, and “oily”. On the back end of the sip, I clearly picked up some bitterness out of the green tea.

After getting accustomed to its unique flavor profile in the morning, I found myself craving more later in the day, so I helped myself to a 2nd cup. :)

Tasted like a generic chamomile tea, you could only get a slight hint of the spearmint on the back end of the sip.

This tea is very soothing on the throat, perfect for cold/flu season.

Tea bag strongly smells of licorice, I got this aroma when steeping as well. I got a light mint flavor with a light lemon “like” aftertaste when sipping slowly, despite their being no lemon in the tea.

Very pleasant budget tea.

This tea had a very noticeable floral aroma, but it was not at all overpowering. I appreciated the balanced flavor profile of this tea, it is perfect for an afternoon “pick me up” at the office.

This tea is made with air-dried scotch spearmint (mentha x gracilis).

Has a very mild and soothing aroma and taste. I get plenty of earthy notes from this tea, and I would say that it has a slight sweetness as well if sipped slowly. Brought water to just under boiling. I wish that this were a loose tea.

Weak Floral Aroma. The green tea was incredibly bitter and overpowering. I normally like a strong brew, but it was so strong you could not even get a hint of Jasmine.
