I’ve had this a few times recently as a soy latte and I have to say that this is one of my new favourites! This tea is extremely smooth and creamy. The vanilla is really sweet and I believe it is what makes this tea so creamy and rich compared to a standard earl grey tea. I plan on buying a full tin of this soon and strongly recommend it to anyone!

I happened to be in the mall today to do bit of Christmas shopping and (of course) had to stop into Davids for gifts/me lol. I noticed that this tea was in one of the box sets that they have out this season and had never really thought of this as a holiday tea prior to seeing it in a set. I decided to give it a try as the shopping was really putting me in the holiday mood. I really liked the smell of this tea. Very minty with a hint of chocolate. It reminds me of those mint-flavoured hot chocolates you seem to find everywhere this time of year. When steeped, I think that the mint is definitely at the forefront as the chocolate fades into the background. The tea is very smooth and the chocolate adds a nice creaminess at the end of the sip (which I really enjoyed). I think this is definitely a tea I will be drinking again soon but is not something I will crave year-round (definitely a winter tea for me). I plan to pick up some of this soon to have on hand for the cold winter ahead. I also find this tea much smoother than the other rooibos blends out there and far less woody. It really comes off as a black tea which is great as it is caffeine free! Note: when I got home, I re-steeped the bag in water and it produced another great cup of tea (almost as strong as the first)! :)

drank Choconut Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

When I stopped by yesterday to get a cup of Santa’s Secret to go, I just could not resist the urge to pick up a sample of this. I was intrigued by this one ever since I heard the name (which I still have no idea how to properly pronounce! lol) I steeped myself a cup of this earlier this morning and was very pleasantly surprised. I was not sure about this one after reading the comments about the liquorice being too strong; I have to say that I barely tasted the liquorice and I think that it added to the richness of the tea. I could taste the oolong in this tea and have to say that it was a very good choice as the tea-base of the tea. This tea tastes and smells like a high-end Nutella (by that I mean that it had a stronger mocha flavour). I loved it and already want to pick up more! I can’t wait to get home to have more of this tea!

I stopped by David’s Tea yesterday (as it was yet another very cold day). I remember seeing this one last year but I never got around to trying it before they took it away. I was so glad they brought it back and am VERY glad I got to try it this time cause it was delicious! I found it very similar to Read My Lips but unlike that tea, it had no strange aftertaste which made me prefer this tea. The mint is not at all overpowering. It actually has a hint of sweetness to it which makes the tea smoother and very nice to drink. This is probably one of my holiday favourites and I will be stocking up on this one before it disappears again!

With read my lips I think it’s the chocolate that leaves that after taste for me. I absolutely love this one.

MooKiwi

I think so too! I find that a lot of the teas with chocolate or artificial flavouring tend to leave the after taste. I really enjoyed this one and will get like 100g maybe even like 200g of this!

drank Sleigh Ride by DAVIDsTEA

I was so happy to see that they brought this one back again this year. It was one I really wanted to try last year but never got a chance to! I steeped a cup of this for the first time this morning and was pleasantly surprised. This tea definitely has a strong apple smell which almost reminds me of a mix of forever nuts and the glow. I didn’t like forever nuts and was a bit hesitant to whether or not I would like this tea. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised! The smell of all the spices comes through even more once steeped as does the smell of the apple. I wasn’t sure how much I would like the taste of hibiscus mixed with all the spiced but I must admit that I did. I will pick up some of this once my sample runs out and before it goes away again!

drank Spiced Fig by DAVIDsTEA

I picked up about 15g of this while I was in today. I smelled this one last week when I stopped by and was immediately intrigued by the smell. The smell is a mixture of sweet and spicy notes while the favour, in my opinion tends to favour the sweet notes (especially in the last few sips!) I found that the dates really came through and I think that that’s where the sweetness comes from. I did enjoy the flavours but found myself disappointed that a 15g pouch was barely enough to make 2 mild cups! The tea is mostly made up of dried fruit as well which doesn’t tend to make a good second brew. I am glad that I tried this and really did enjoy it but like the gingerbread, I really cannot say I would rush out to buy it or even be disappointed to not see it return next year.

drank Gingerbread by DAVIDsTEA

It was absolutely FREEZING out today and I just could not resist the urge to stop by on my way home for a nice warm cup of tea! I was in the mood for something new and decided to give this one a try. I find rooibos tea to really be hit or miss for the most part but this one was almost in between. The taste and smell definitely reminded me of gingerbread but to me, the taste was not exactly reminiscent of gingerbread. I really like the concept behind this tea and definitely enjoyed my cup though. The taste definitely reminds me of something, not gingerbread though…maybe closer to the taste of sticky toffee pudding? Anyways, I did enjoy it and would not hesitate to drink it again. I can’t say I would rush out to buy this or even be “heartbroken” if they don’t bring it back next year. I’m definitely glad I gave it a go and suggest everyone tries it at least once before it is gone!

drank Coffee Cake by DAVIDsTEA

I stopped by David’s today to get a tea on my way home and knew I wanted to try something from the new winter collection. I asked to smell this one, as well as Spiced Fig and Gingerbread (they all smelled great by the way and I will be trying them all soon!) There was just something really intriguing about this one that made me want to try it first. As far as smell, it has a light sweetness which comes out more as it steeps. The smell quickly filled my entire car which made for a great drive home. In terms of taste, I found it really similar to red velvet cake and birthday cake (but this one has less of a maple taste). I think I do however, prefer this to both of those teas. I was really glad to see cherries as an ingredient in this tea. Aside from this there is only one other tea (cherry cola) which contains cherry. The cherries in the tea, I found, came out more in the after taste while the sweet notes where the first to hit the palette. The only complaint I have is that like many other teas with flavourings, this tea did have a bit of an aftertaste. It is not so strong as to prevent me from enjoying this tea but is worth mentioning here.

drank Dragon Pearls by DAVIDsTEA

I tried this today in a to-go cup. As stated in my previous tasting note about Butterfly Jasmine, I have been trying to increase my green tea consumption as well as to try more traditional teas as opposed to flavoured ones. It is really neat to watch these “pearls” unravel into the little “dragons”; they practically triple in size! In terms of taste/smell the jasmine is overwhelming! This tea is practically identical to Butterfly Jasmine! It is definitely an acquired taste that I don’t think everyone would enjoy but if you were curious like I was, there is no harm in giving it a try. I can’t see myself rushing out to stock up on it but I would not hesitate to drink it again.

drank Butterfly Jasmine by DAVIDsTEA

Lately, I’ve been trying to drink A LOT more green tea for the skin benefits. I’ve even started using green tea as a facial cleanser/toner (It is amazing by the way!) by applying it topically to the skin. I am trying to get more into drinking the traditional teas as I believe they are the ones with the most health benefits as opposed to all the flavoured ones. This tea is really interesting both from the point of view of taste/smell as well as visually. The hand wrapped “butterflies” are so beautiful I almost feel bad steeping this tea lol!

The scent of jasmine is incredibly strong and seems to come out more once the tea steeps. I like that this tea is flavoured so naturally as opposed to added/artificial sweeteners or flavours. In terms of taste, I would say that this tea has an acquired taste. I definitely don’t think it is for everyone. I personally however, did not overly mind the intense floral notes of this tea. For me, it is a tea I would drink again but would not rush out to buy a tin or even a bag to have on hand.

Bio

I am a tea fanatic and have also recently made the transition from vegetarian to vegan! I always have tea in my hand and in my overflowing cupboard!

I prefer black, green and white teas. I have recently discovered mate and oolongs. So far I’ve enjoyed them however, I have not tried very many. I am not often a fan of rooibos as I tend to find them overly woody but have found there to be some exceptions. As for herbals, I am only recently beginning to drink these on a regular basis (mostly iced) as the weather gets warmer, but these I am willing to try. I have not yet developped the taste for pu’erh.

I tend to only rate and review the teas I drink once (maybe twice if my opinion REALLY changes; especially if I were to have them prepared a different way). I currently only use Steepster for logging my reviews of David’s Tea although I do drink teas from many different companies. Every time I visit the store, I try something new in a cup to-go as I enjoy going through the tea menu and marking off teas as I try them. My goal is to try them all!

My rating system is as follows:
90-100: Wecome to my permanent collection! (worthy of a 100g tin!)

75-90: Definetly would drink again but maybe not all the time. I would buy a small amount (50g or less) to have once in a while.

50-75: I will finish the cup but not my favourite.

25-50: I will try to finish the cup but may not be able to.

0-25: Not my cup of tea…down the sink we go!
