I had this tea yesterday but I haven’t had time to log it until now. This was yet another recommendation made by the wonderful staff at davids tea. The guy who was working said that this is one of his favourites to have iced. I had smelled it the day before when I went in and it smelled like it would be really bitter. I decided to finally try it (due to my recent experience with blood orange pu’erh) and was pleasantly surprised! It was so light and fruity and will definitely be something to go back to! I look forward to trying it warm too and will probably pick some up to bring home too!

I tried this tea a couple of days ago and have been so busy I am just finding the time to log it now! I had exotica as the tea of the day in my iced tea mug and sat in the store (which is set up like a little cafe) to drink that. As I did that, I was looking at the wall trying to decide what I was going to try next and could not figure it out for the life of me. I finally decided when I went up to the counter that I would try this tea. Dry, it smelled just ok to me but I decided to go ahead and try it anyways cause it was busy and I didn’t want to waste the poor guys time! I do enjoy a good floral tea every once in a while or a tea with floral undertones but this was wayyyy too floral for me! I did manage to drink the whole thing but it will not be something I will be going back to anytime soon.

I had this iced as the tea of the day a couple days ago and was initially intrigued by the name as well as the complex mixture of ingredients. This tea had a slight spice but it was not overpowering. The spice actually added to the tea by making it more quenching and refreshing. Overall, this tea was good and I look forward to trying it warm too. I don’t think i enjoyed it enough to buy any but it could be a nice change once in a while.

drank Blood Orange Pu'erh by DAVIDsTEA

This tea has been recommended to me a countless number of times but I have always been hesitant to try it due to my previous experiences with Pu’erh teas. I have found most of them to be really oily, some so bad it even creates a nasty coating over the roof of your mouth and tongue. Many are also quite fishy and as a vegan, that taste is highly unpleasant! I finally worked up the courage and had this one iced today. This, like the other pu’erhs I have had does have a very strong and distinct flavour. I can now see why it was paired with the strong flavour of orange. If it were to be paired with any milder flavours, I am not exactly sure if they would even come through because the pu’erh is so strong! Compared to the other pu’erhs I have tried ( for example aloha pu’erh and berry good) this one is not nearly as oily! This was actually the first pu’erh I was able to finish an entire cup of! My mom had this warm and I had it iced. To compare the two, we both found that the warm tea was alot more citrusy, both in the smell and the taste. The iced tea, while still having a significant amount of citrus, mostly showcased the tea itself. As many of you know, I have not overly developed the taste for pu’erhs as of yet but I would probably drink this again and would actually like to try it warm as well. I can’t say I would crave this (like I do for some of the other ones) but I now feel more open to trying more pu’erh teas. I also can’t see myself buying any of this to steep at home but it is certainly something I would recommend to friends and family members who enjoy this type of tea.

I stopped in today while I was in the mall for a course and knew I wanted something iced as it was EXTREMELY hot out today! It wasn’t busy at all so I had time to speak with the staff and asked for a recommendation as now that I have tried so many, it gets hard to pick something new every time. The guy that was working is there all the time and is usually really good. He recommended this tea and Blood Orange Pu’erh (which another staff member told me about last week so I will definitely try next time!)…The dry smell is a bit strange to be totally honest. I found it to be a strange blend of floral and herbal which didn’t really mix for me. The taste is quite similar and is what you would expect from the smell. The fruit comes across very bitter and the floral is a bit overwhelming. To me, all the strong flavours such as the blueberry, currants and lavender were all competing to be at the forefront. The flavours really needed to be more "layered’ so that each one could have a chance to shine and even help to showcase the others. I am glad I tried this one as I have been eying it for a while and have heard a lot about it from the staff there. I don’t think I would try it iced again but I would definitely be willing to try it warm. I won’t be buying any of this one though.

Well this is exciting…my 100th tasting note of teas from David’s Tea! I told the staff at the store how many I had tried the other day and they said that was more than most of the staff who work there and even gave me a coupon for a free cup of tea (which I have yet to use)! This tea was a recommendation by a staff member and, unlike most of the ones they have recommended, is actually one I had yet to try. The smell immediately hits you as being very citrusy, and strong. It reminded me of fruit juice (like a Sunny-D or even Five Alive). When steeped, it retains its smell quite well and I was pleased that the actual fruity taste was milder. I picked up about 20g of this tea, at the same time I went in for an Iced Tea Mug and tried Guava Cadabra, and when I got home, made it iced. Compared to the other mates I’ve tried from David’s tea, I found this to be slightly oilier; which reminded me more of a pu’erh. For me, the oiliness in this one is still light enough to be drinkable (unlike most pu’erhs) and I will absolutely have no problems finishing the 20g pouch over the summer. I also liked the fact that even iced, I was able to get 2 full steeps out of my tea bag. Overall, it is a nice tea and will definetely be great for the summer but I can’t see myself picking this one up again.

I stopped into David’s tea today while in town. I picked up an iced tea mug and with the purchase of that, I received a free iced tea to drink in it! That was super exciting and I picked Guava Cadabra to try. I’ve really been looking forward to trying this tea even since I saw it in the new tea menu almost 3 months ago! The smell of the dry tea is so tropical and fruity and this definitely comes through when the tea is iced. The flavour initially comes off as quite sour and it mellows into a sweetness near the end of the sip. The colour is also beautiful and very similar to that of strawberry rhubarb parfait. I look forward to drinking this all summer long (in my new mug which I also love <3)! I definitely recommend this one iced and look forward to trying it warm as well.

I went in to the mall tonight to pick up a few things and as I was leaving, stopped in at David’s (as per usual). The store was empty tonight which is extremely rare and I took advantage of the opportunity to speak to the staff. It paid off as I got a recommendation to try this tea. My mom had it warm while I had it iced. She really enjoyed it as do I. Iced, I found that it is like a fruit punch and reminded me of my many vacations on tropical islands. I am also so happy that the proceeds go to Haiti and that this tea really showcases and celebrates Haitian culture. The cinnamon however, adds a level of spice to this tea that you would not get in a typical fruit punch. I found that as it is not overpowering, it really showcases the sweetness of all the other ingredients and elevates their flavours. I will absolutely pick up a tin of this!

If I was a mother, I would definitely stock up on this tea; but even now as a student, I plan to do so! I had this one iced and it was one of the most refreshing teas from David’s Tea I’ve had to date. It has a really strong smell which the mint dominates and the mint definitely comes through in the taste as well. The mint is cooling and I found that really nice when iced. I have yet to try warm but definitely look forward to doing so soon. I’ve had a really busy month and finally with the worst of it behind me, I just felt like I needed a “Me day”. This tea was on the menu today and halfway through the cup I caught myself beginning to yawn and get drowsy…I don’t know how much valerian was in this but it definitely worked for me! I love that this tea is caffeine free and will definetely reach for this next time I have trouble sleeping or just want to relax! When I finish the 20g I picked up I will absolutely pick up a tin of this!

This one is just weird! I don’t know what it is about it, but it almost has the smell of alcohol and that comes through in the taste as well. I don’t get the raspberry as much as I would have but I think thats the ingredient which contributes to the strange sourness. I had this iced and plan to try it warm as well but it was so strong (even when diluted with the ice cubes) that I could not finish my cup. I will probably finish my 20g pack over the summer but I definitely don’t plan to re-stock.

Bio

I am a tea fanatic and have also recently made the transition from vegetarian to vegan! I always have tea in my hand and in my overflowing cupboard!

I prefer black, green and white teas. I have recently discovered mate and oolongs. So far I’ve enjoyed them however, I have not tried very many. I am not often a fan of rooibos as I tend to find them overly woody but have found there to be some exceptions. As for herbals, I am only recently beginning to drink these on a regular basis (mostly iced) as the weather gets warmer, but these I am willing to try. I have not yet developped the taste for pu’erh.

I tend to only rate and review the teas I drink once (maybe twice if my opinion REALLY changes; especially if I were to have them prepared a different way). I currently only use Steepster for logging my reviews of David’s Tea although I do drink teas from many different companies. Every time I visit the store, I try something new in a cup to-go as I enjoy going through the tea menu and marking off teas as I try them. My goal is to try them all!

My rating system is as follows:
90-100: Wecome to my permanent collection! (worthy of a 100g tin!)

75-90: Definetly would drink again but maybe not all the time. I would buy a small amount (50g or less) to have once in a while.

50-75: I will finish the cup but not my favourite.

25-50: I will try to finish the cup but may not be able to.

0-25: Not my cup of tea…down the sink we go!
