Um… so… not sure why I tried this, but it sounded like a good idea at the time. Made it iced, I knew it’s an old, old batch (likely two years old), I’ve had issues with all of the older 52 Teas tasting like cardboard. Sadly… this also tasted like cardboard. Root beer flavored cardboard, alas, not for me.

So hard to find this tea on here (didn’t think of spelling it this way).

I think hot most of them have lost their flavoring, but cold it’s still coming through (thankfully). Still, cardboard. :( Sil, I agree!

The 52teas Tiramisu tea that I loved so much has lost all it’s delicious flavor. :( I’ll have to try it cold brewed and see if it is salvageable that way.

Another one that I’ve had iced now, and I enjoy it considerably less than the Bellini from Tetley. (Iced: threw tea bags in a pitcher of purified water and left it overnight).

There’s something oily about this one, and I can’t put my finger on it. Coconut, perhaps? No idea, but I can see it in the brew, as well as feel it when I drink it. Almost like the consistency of peach juice, or castor oil… which I’m sadly quite familiar with and not terribly fond of.

Not getting a ton of pina colada out of this either… maybe a tropical type fruit, with some coconut oily in here. Sure, I’ll drink it, it’s definitely not going to waste, but it’s something I won’t stock up on again.

Gosh I love this stuff. Made up a huge batch iced (just threw in teabags into purified water and left it in my fridge overnight), and with a touch of sweetener, I guzzled it down like it was candy from the Universe. Truly, yum! Upping the rating, just because it’s more of a junk food tea than anything soul-infusing, yet still, I’ve reached for this often the past few days.

Oooh, this is tasty. Not quite spicy (heat), more like spicy (flavorful and smooth), with a hint of chocolate and a tiny bit of kick from the … cinnamon? Yes, I like this tea very, very much. Even more so that it came straight from Galway, for less shipping than I ever thought possible.

Grabbed this while in San Fran last year, just now getting around to trying it. It’s one of those whites that brews up like a black (thick, chocolatey, full-bodied brew) yet is still light and refreshing. Likely my favorite kind of white tea, other than maybe something fruity that’s brewed up cold.

Flavors: Chocolate, Creamy, Sweet, Thick, Vegetal

Hm. I like this tea – it reminds me of the amazeballs Kashmir chai in Edmonton, but that one is SOOOOO much better – yet it’s got a weird flavor to it that I’m just not digging. I think it’s partially one of the spices (too strong – and that’s saying a lot for me, I love me my spices) plus the floral/rose is a bit too heavy for my liking. Really, the French should teach EVERY TEA BLENDER IN THE WORLD how to use flowers in tea. For the most part, they’re the only ones where I can even tolerate flowers.

Having said all that – I do like that there’s a bit of kick and spice to this, some minor heat. It’s actually burning my tongue a bit (again, I love this) but it’s just too much, uh, flavor. Like, dial down the nutmeg or something, maybe cloves. It’s just too much.

drank Pu-erh Vanilla Mint by Zen Tea

Ah, this tea. Normally a comforting cup of pure pleasure, I decided I wanted to try all my “vanilla mint” combination teas, to see if I could find a replacement for Twining’s Buttermint (which truly is divine for a cheapo bagged herbal – but only available in the UK and some parts of Europe).

This isn’t a replacement, sadly. It’s still lovely – creamy from the vanilla without really the flavor, cool from the mint again without the flavor, a bit earthy from the puerh, a bit rugged and windswept… this is kind of like the Fabio of tea, all smooth and sassy yet with an outdoorsy, bearded edge. Yep, I think this’ll do. :)

I want a melty, rich, decadent truffle with my chocolate tea, thanks. This ain’t it, sadly.

Definitely chocolate, stored well, a bit of paper flavoring in there somehow, and just.. too weak for me to fall in love with. Makes me want to go find some MF Mousse au Chocolat.

Bio

A few years ago, the obsession with tea started. The cupboard got bigger and bigger, more swaps occurred, group buys, secret rendezvous with local teapassionistas… and that’s how you end up with 500+ different kinds of tea in your home. At one time.

Almost all of the tea was given away, sold, or otherwise shared. A few relics still remain. I now travel full time with only two carryon bags to my name. One quarter of those bags are tea.

It’s still a challenge to avoid the chipmunk-like hoarding of The Teas, yet, the lightness of being from having so little compels me more.

If I have enough, I’m happy to share. If I’m in your area, I’d love to swap, meet for tea, and explore together.

As for the day-to-day stuff, I’m focused almost entirely on Love, (yes, with a capital L), Spirit/Self, transformation, travel and my writing and speaking work.

What kinds of teas do I normally like?

YES: flavored teas, fruity, dessert, chai, and spicy (REALLY spicy).

A FONDNESS FOR: all white teas, malty black teas, any herbal or medicinal teas, strange/weird teas you can only get in one place.

ALLERGIC TO: strawberries, lavender

DISLIKES: any added sugars, grains, lapsang souchong, and overly floral teas – I might enjoy a Jasmine Green every once in a while, but unless it’s a creamy floral tea (think roses in a chai, or the smoothness of a floral note in a French tea), I’ll likely pass. Earl Greys are a hit or miss with me; heavy on the cream or fruit notes and I might like it, heavy on the blergamot and I definitely won’t.
