drank Fig Rose by Teavana

It’s a bit early in the day to be switching to herbal teas but after the mate I just had, I’m already high on caffeine so I decided it was a good time to try and taste another one of the Teavana herbals I bought.

I just don’t understand this one. Like a few of the other Teavanas I’ve had (Chocolate Banana Foster and Anjou Pear-adsie something), it weirdly reminds me of Twizzlers candy. Am I totally crazy ?? I might be, but anyway even though I like Twizzlers, it’s not something I’m looking for in teas. Ewwww.

I don’t get any rose nor fig nor anything interesting.

Ok, so I opened the bag, smelled it, thought it smelled interesting but there was something off… I looked inside… wait… is that… ? I looked at the ingredients… yes, rooibos. Oh, no.

And now I’m scared. I sooooo need to look more carefully at all the ingredients before I go crazy and buy everything… sigh

Let’s see… the smell of the actual cup of tea is quite nice. I can’t smell any rooibos, that’s a relief ! Now, do I dare try it… ?

Oh, surprise ! I like it ! I can’t taste the rooibos at all, yay ! It’s only the second mate I’ve tried (the first being Chocolate Rocket from David’s Tea, yummy!) but I think I can recognize the earthy taste, which I think is quite nice when mixed with chocolate. And I’ve only had like 3 or 4 sips and I can already feel the caffeine buzz.

Another one of my absolute favorites ! :)

This tastes exactly like those little sour watermelon candy I simply adore. I’ve always been a huge fan of sour candy : I could eat thousands of them in a day without getting enough ! Needless to say this tea is an amazing calorie free alternative, way healthier ! It’s also caffeine free so just perfect for dessert before I go to sleep. Mmmm.

I can’t stand rooibos.

Obvisouly I didn’t know that when I purchased this one. Actually it was part of my first order from David’s Tea and I was attracted to the mint and the chocolate, always a winning combination for me ! When I opened the bag, having no idea what rooibos was or tasted like, the smell put me off. I liked the minty chocolate but there was something else there… something almost medicinal… and now I know it’s rooibos.

This one is not too bad, though. It does taste like mint and chocolate and the flavor of rooibos is not TOO present, meaning I will eventually finish my 25g bag. But I’ll be happy to say goodbye when the time comes and won’t re-stock.

Weirdly, what I like the best about this tea is that afterwards, my mug smells incredible. No rooibos at all, in fact not even mint : just chocolate. I can’t explain why but it’s just amazing. I almost only want to drink it for the smell it leaves on my mug, lol !

I’m still not sure about this one. I like the smell of the dry leaf a lot. It reminds me of Cuba ; it smells just like rum and coconut and pina colada. Very creamy and buttery. Mmmm. Nice.

But when it comes to the taste, I don’t know, I feel like something’s not right but I don’t know what. I don’t hate it, I don’t love it… I think it needs some getting used too.

Anyway tonight I wanted to try something different so I put some rock sugar in it, let it cool down and then put some rum over it… Interesting. I’ll have to explore more.

drank Love Tea #7 by DAVIDsTEA

Finally, I can drink tea again !

I’ve been stuck at work all day with no tea because apparently the kettle is broken and I had no idea ! I had brought so many different teas too and I couldn’t drink any of them… I’m so happy to be back home !

I felt like a decadent dessert tea so I made myself a cup of this one. Mmmm. Yummy. I think I like this tea more and more every time I drink it. I must say the first time I tried it I was a tiny bit disappointed because I can’t really taste any chocolate. I do get a lot of strawberry and sweetness, but not enough chocolate. Now that I’ve made my peace with it I love it. Maybe I’ll try putting in some cocoa powder next time? Anyway right now it’s hitting the spot.

This tea is kind of weird. Or at least I have some weird mixed feelings about it.

This is one of my friends’ favorite tea and the other day he went completely crazy and bought like 300g or so + other teas as well. When he realized how much that was, he started feeling guilty… and so I bought a 100g tin from him. Yep. That’s how good a friend I am!

Anyway. It smelled promising because I love citrus in tea and I thought it smelled very lemony and orangey. But it’s way too bitter and medicinal for me. I’ve tried different steeping times, different water temperatures, and still every time it comes out pretty bitter. Now I even think the smell is bitter, if that even makes sense !

The thing is, though, when I feel tired and/or my tummy is upset, this is the tea I reach for. I slept about 4 or 5 hours last night and that’s why I’m drinking it right now. I’m not particularly enjoying it, but it’s the only one I felt like drinking. Weird.

I’d never heard of this one, but I can see why it would be so complicated! At lesat you still crave it since you have so much of it. I think for this I’d try 2-3 min at 180F, and if that still tasted bitter, I’d add some honey! I wonder if there’s some ingredient in there that makes it extra bitter?

Meliboum

I’m actually also wondering if some ingredient in it could be responsible for the bitter taste because after reading a few comments I can see I’m not the only one feeling this one is too bitter. I don’t know about the exact temperature of the water I’ve used (I know, I should buy a thermometer…) but it was not very hot and I let it steep for only 3 minutes and still, bitter as hell… :( And now I’m stuck at work and the kettle seems to be broken so no more tea for me until the end of my shift ! :(

drank Spiced Fig by DAVIDsTEA

I got this one as a sample when I ordered online. I wasn’t particularly attracted to the name, but then I opened the small bag and the smell melted my heart. It smells so nice and the fruit looks so cute I want to eat them!

Obsviously I took a small bite of one of the fruit… and then I quickly poured some water over it to avoid eating it all ! The smell of the liquid is way less appealing, but we’ll see…

First sip… of course I burnt my tongue ! But I really like it. The taste is much more similar to the smell of the dry fruit than the smell of the liquid. I must say I don’t think I’ve ever had any figgy pudding so I can’t really compare, but this does remind me of fruit cake. I get cranberry, dates, cloves. It’s sweet, it’s nice, I’m happy I’ve tried it and might even buy some more if I get the chance before the winter’s collection’s gone.

And now I’m off eating the fruit ! :)

I’ve come to realize I have mixed feelings about teas that have “nuts” as their main flavor. They always smell promising, they are always quite nice, but they never end up being like “WOW!” even though I always seem to have high hopes. Maybe it’s because they never taste as strongly as they smell, so I end up being disappointed ? I don’t know…

That being said, I have had a craving for this particular tea for a few days, so I’m enjoying it a lot right now. I don’t know exactly what it tastes like. Weirdly, I get a bit of Queen Elizabeth cake (which is very popular here in Quebec but I have no idea if other people know about it lol) my grandma used to make, and also some kind of alcohol especially in the smell (tia maria?) Anyway, it’s a very comforting tea :)

Mmmm… this one is one of my absolute favorites. I originally bought a bag of 50g a month or so before Christmas, and when I realized it might be out of stock soon, I had to get another tin of 100g right away!

The smell of the dry leaf alone is driving me crazy. It smells like mint and cream and Christmas and comfort all at once :) And the taste is just amazing. The right amount of minty and creamy, with a nice black tea base that usually gives me a boost of energy (I’m really sensitive to caffeine!) Plus I love all the tiny candy canes in it. Just the sight of them makes me happy! :)

I’m quite new to tea. Like many people, the tea brand that got me started into loose leaf tea was Davids Tea. It was about 2 or 3 months ago. My first try was Pumpkin Chai and I was blown away.

I started mostly because I was looking for something that would satisfy my sugar cravings without all the calories, and also for the health benefits. I soon realized the world of tea was way larger than what I originally thought, and I’m glad I’m now a part of it !

I’m way intense when I get into something, so I bought too many kinds of loose tea leaf, trying to figure out which ones I would like best… So far, I mostly enjoy flavoured black, green or oolong teas. Anything floral, fruity, minty or sweet is great. I like dessert teas and also enjoy chai teas. The only thing I can’t stand is rooibos. I’ve tried several blends and I had to either give them away or put them in the trash.

Other stuff I’m into include traveling, language learning, TV series, yoga, Harry Potter, reading, writing, eating too much and hiking.
