1839 Tasting Notes

My last tasting note is still valid.
Well, it’s vegetal and buttery, but quite tasty. I have enjoyed this afternoon cuppa :)

Unfortunately today can’t be exactly Duvet Day, I need to correct few things in my “truck drive plan”. I planned too short sleep breaks for driver. Haha.

Anyway… to this tea again: Liked it, but not enough to rate it higher than this 77. Maybe it’s going bit bland and the coconut suffers from age?

And very nice pairing this tea with salted caramel ice cream!

Flavors: Coconut, Jasmine, Vegetal

This was pleasant surprise.

I took this tea bag with same thoughts about last ones. It won’t be tasty, it will be maybe very spicy, it will be hardly any good tea base.
NONE OF ABOVE
I used even warmer water than they recommend. On the bag is 100°C, I used 90°C, they have on website 75-80°C.

Hardly any matcha? Well, it is in paper bag and some green tea dust is actually going off the bag. So, some matcha is apparently in. It was very spice present too, when dry.

I put the bag in the cup, let it in for minute and half (yes, that short — mostly because of higher temperature and I did not wanted too strong, buttery cuppa)

It was mostly cloves I noticed, but as well ginger and bit of cinnamon. The base was present too! Especially it was quite grassy and not buttery at all. There was little dust of matcha on the bottom, so I was whisking the cup with a teaspoon.

I won’t classify it as a matcha actually. But as green tea with chai? Pleasant surprise!

On the other news:
My granma is going home today afternoon. Actually in the time I am writing this line, she will be in our car and my brother drives home!

Flavors: Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Grass

Great news! I was thinking about your grandma yesterday and wondered how she was doing. Glad she is going home!

Eelong

That’s wonderful to hear, Martin!

gmathis

Celebrating with you! Grandmas need to be cherished as much as possible.

Martin Bednář

Thank you everyone! She says that her sight is bit worse (while reading), and still sometimes she forgot a word (like losing a word in sentence in foreign language) and it seems that it was caused by heart arrhythmia. But as I said, it’s still great, especially when she is 79 years old!

tea-sipper

Good to hear your grandma is doing well! A bunch of us tea-people were thinking of her. :D

mrmopar

Good to hear she is coming home.

derk

Hurray!

Martin Bednář

Thank you tea-sipper, mrmopar and derk! She is doing well, yesterday she had few medical check-ups, she get some over-counter medicine including some injections. Her GP was surprised that she had it. Well, we were surprised as well.

Another cuppa from huge bags.
This one looks caffeine free, although there is nothing on the foil bag, which I consider quite pretty. Look here: https://colnect.com/cs/teabags/teabag/26308

It seems it is indeed fruit tea and it seems without hibiscus and rose hips, as it don’t changed colour much. Certainly it is not deep red, it is just a light and pink tea.

Aromas: generic red fruits, strawberry and cherry most present. Then some raspberries.
Taste: Similar to aroma; red fruits with most present strawberries and cherries, bit tart and bit of creamy.

Conclusion? For that aged bag as it is — close to perfect. Maybe the age made the flavour bit dull and that’s why it isn’t “screaming” I AM RED FRUITS TEA, and it is overall very enjoable.

Note: Elephant is actually brand Lipton in France. I don’t know why they had to rebrand it, or if it is just some teas…

Flavors: Cherry, Creamy, Strawberry

I let this tea in pouch quite for long without any notice.

I took it again today, to finish it. So it’s actually SIPDOWN as well.

Turned out really different (as aged, maybe), but still somehow boring.
It was very woody, some honey flavours and quite bold. This time it was as well most similar to English Breakfast as they claim, but still far from tasty for me.
It was smooth, tasty, but I am not a fan. It’s just a strange flaovur — real honey is somehow different.
I don’t know why I don’t like it that much as I would expect.

Flavors: Honey, Wood

Just a random tea bag from huge bags. And as it is evening – caffeine free.

Herbal… fennel and anise. It’s not that long I said I can’t imagine anise in tea, right?

Steeped for suggested 3-5 minutes. I think I did around 4 minutes steep.

What is this tea? So fennel strong (I know, it’s in). It’s as well so drying, earthy, some resin a bit I think. As well somehow tart. Average I guess

SIPDOWN

I ad just a teaspoon left, maybe one and half, I don’t know. I wasn’t measuring, and I just decided to drink what I had left in grandpa style.

Turned out like a liquid freshly baked bread, with hints of roast, nuts and honey-sweetness. Luckily it wasn’t very sweet.
I am not sure about the vanilla I recalled last time, certainly I noticed it – but I had as well vanilla flavoured ice cream, so… rather it wasn’t in the tea :D

Sad to see it go, it was indeed a nice surprise to pick this one and it was very tasty.

I really like this one too. <3

Martin Bednář

I was surprised that Thailand could have so nice oolong!

Kawaii433

Right? lol I like What-cha’s Vietnamese oolongs too, Martin :D

Martin Bednář

Vietnamese? Yep, they are great too. But those I sometimes see even elsewhere (Hatvala, for example). But I don’t know other vendor where to buy Thailand tea.

Another bag from huge bags. Apparently I had similar one (see https://steepster.com/Martin-CZE/posts/397905 )

But I feel it is bit different. More strawberry, less mango. Quite Fresh and Fruity (good name for tea series). Taste is mostly strawberry, Mango… not here? It is not artificial (strawberry). And even juicy! Mouth-watering, great taste… just more mango please!

Flavors: Fruity, Strawberry

Another tea bag from huge bags; but foil wrapped.

Well, I am pleasantly surprised. It is nice green tea base, not much hay it is actually quite fresh I think. And pineapple? It’s not artificial, it is actually tasty, fresh and juicy. How?

Really great tea, even tea bag only… old as well. And company comes from Costa Rica… so probably I won’t get any other soon.

I wonder if US version is same or not.

But I have this one, based on bag design.

The aroma is strong, and unfortunately it smells bit like a dish soap to me. I think that lavender + bergamot don’t work very well in aroma.

Taste was pleasant on the other side, it was nice and mild, with floral notes of lavender and citrus, pleasant sourness. Base tea was present and nice too.

I am bit puzzled how to rate it. Taste was pleasant, but that aroma wasn’t great. Hmm… Fresh it would be much better I bet.

On the other news; my grandma had a stroke yesterday evening, so I am not really in mood even making tea. Luckily, it was just some minor and with “ups and downs”, so it was partially free, not blocked completely. Oh boy, and she was okay few hours earlier. But because of COVID, we can’t even visit her. I feel sad.

Flavors: Bergamot, Citrusy, Floral, Lavender, Pleasantly Sour

Your grandma got lucky if that’s all she experienced! Hope you’re able to visit her soon, or at least video call.

mrmopar

Hopefully thongs will be ok Martin. I will put her on our prayer list.

gmathis

Me, too. Praying you’ll be able to give her a grandson hug soon.

Martin Bednář

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it! She was doing better today, as I have notice my mum (her daughter) calling her. She knew exactly what she needs and missing in the hospital, so we could deliver it today. Unfortunately, as I said, I could not see her, I was stopped at the gatehouse.

derk

So glad to hear your grandma is recovering.

ashmanra

Praying for your grandmother, and for you!

Martin Bednář

Thank you derk and ashmanra. So far I don’t have any news, but hopefully everything is alright.

tea-sipper

I’m sorry to hear about your grandma! Hopefully it’s as minor of a stroke as possible.

Huge bags section. Paper bag . It seems it is again old one.

Because flavour was weak, boring. Very tannic with little notes of cherry wood. Brew was dark copper colour, bit cloudy as well.

I assume it is cheap brand from Tunisia, trying to sell us something which is not that great as they claim. But my French is too bad to understand anything than “sélection exceptionnelle de thés des hauts plateaux”. That is written on the paper bag. And I was able to read it as it is somehow and moreless similar to English.

I am drinking almost everything. Tea bag collector who moved to wonderful world of loose leaf.

Trying to rate differently tea bags and loose leaf as tea bags have usually worse quality.

Photographer now and then. Postcrossing and geocaching member. Very curious person. Logistics student (should finish in June 2021).

Buried in tea right now. Is in my cupboard (trying to be updated) which sparkled your interest? Write me, I would gladly share with you. But I don’t want anything in return now :)
