Sipdown!

I got this as a sample with one of the DT’s orders and I’ve been looking to try it for a while. It smells just like Forever Nuts and tastes almost the same as well… the only difference in taste I think it’s the tartness coming from hibiscus.

I like Forever Nuts so I find this enjoyable as well. Especially that hibiscus is not too overpowering here.

Well…. I have to say I’m impressed. The tea is delicious. I got this as a free sample which arrived yesterday in a beautiful packaging with the cutest little sailboat. :) Thank you! I’m loving the fact that the sample packets have little ziplock although for this tea I used the whole packet. I like to overleaf my oolongs and steep them at a shorter time, allowing for more steeps. :)

The dry tea smelled delicately vegetal. I steeped it at 90C for 1 minute. The resulting liquid was pale green/yellow with beautiful sweet floral aroma. The taste – exquisite. Really lovely. It was just right amount of floral, a little vegetal and creamy with sweet notes of honey. Everything I want in oolong was present.

My second steep was 1.5 minutes long and the resulting cup once again full of aroma and flavour. There was a milkiness to it that I would associate with natural milk oolong… Yummy!

I will continue steeping this and see how far I can take it. I will say again… I’m impressed. I’m definitely considering a purchase.

Edit: I forgot to mention that before the first steep I rinsed the leaves and waited 30 seconds to wake them up before proceeding further.

This was quite a satisfying cup of tea this afternoon. I was in a mood for something creamy and buttery, something I could have with milk and that was it. I thought I was falling out of love with this particular blend but today it warmed itself back into my heart again. I think last time I was trying to drink it without milk and didn’t enjoy it very much. No… this one for me it’s all about butter and cream… gotta have the cream and make it a dessert. :)

Yum!

I had about 7 grams of this left between two sample packets I got from DT so I decided to combine them both in a cup. My first time trying it.

DT said on the packet to steep this in 94C water but since this is a white tea I just couldn’t. I steeped at 79C for 2 minutes.

The resulting liquid was golden in color and fragrant, the scent reminding me of honey like it should. The taste was ok but i wasn’t wowed. I mean, it’s a good tea but I’ve had better…. You can blame it on Teavivre’s organic silver needle.

drank Genmaicha by DAVIDsTEA
125 tasting notes

So here is an interesting one…. I got this few months ago, drank it once and was so dissatisfied with it, I put it at the back of my cupboard and forgot about it. The reason? Too much roasted rice, not enough tea, just not my taste I guess. I remember wanting to try it with addition of more green tea but like I said… I forgot about it.

Lo and behold I remembered about it out last night. I steeped about half a teaspoon of it with regular serving of Dragonwell in 8 ounces of water…. and I liked it. I liked it so much that tonight I decided to double the amount. I guess I like the toasted rice filler after all but for me there has to be more tea and less rice.

Stephanie

There are definitely better genmaichas out there :) try Den’s extra green (with added matcha!) sometime! So good…

Kamyria

Thank you, I totally will. I will finish what I have of this one because I do enjoy it with a little extra green tea, but after than I will definitely have to branch out and try other genmaichas out there. :)

Stephanie

If you’ve never shopped at Den’s tea, they do a $5 introduction to Japanese greens sampler, and it comes with a $5 off your next purchase coupon, so it’s basically free!

Kamyria

Oh, that’s awesome! Thank you :)

100th tasting note!

Apparently we suppose to get a reprieve from the frigid temperatures over the next several days. It’s predicted to warm up this afternoon to a balmy -6C (21F) from the breath freezing -23C (-9F) registered on my dashboard this morning. By Friday, get this, -2C (28F). Yay! Heat wave! Pull out your bathing suits everyone!!

This tea definitely deserves to have my 100th tasting note. I still love it very much and I’m almost done with the 1st ounce I bought. Every time I drink it I enjoy it so much I want to write about it, lol. It’s aromatic, smooth and rich in flavour. It has a wonderful mild, earthy taste of good shou with fragrant notes of chrysanthemum flowers. It’s mild and spicy at the same time with notes of coriander and juniper berries definitely coming through. And then there is burdock. I really don’t know what it suppose to taste like but I definitely detect something else in this tea that might very well be burdock, I don’t know.

Yes, this blend is simply lovely. :)

Uh oh… yeah.. Yum!

Again, this is so yummy… so yummy! Fragrant, floral, vegetal, creamy, everything I love.

I reduced the steeping temperature today to 90C and increased leaf to 7 gram per 8 ounces of water. 1 minute for the first steep and it’s perfect. :)

drank Green Rooibos by DAVIDsTEA
125 tasting notes

What I’m really drinking is green rooibos/Bamboozled blend. I mixed one teaspoon of green rooibos with 2 teaspoons of Bamboozled. This is a delicious cup with great depth and complexity. Yum!

While I’m finding out that I really, really don’t like red rooibos, I cannot say the same thing for the green variety. These two are simply so different. Green rooibos is mild, tasty and not overpowering in any way.

I really have to make a commitment to drink green rooibos more often. It provides such great health benefits, it’s caffeine free and tasty… Perfect evening drink!

TheTeaFairy

I agree, the only rooibos I tolerate is the green one, it’s even good on its own. No trace of that woodsy medicine taste found in red. Too bad there aren’t many blends available. Unless you do what you do and make your own :-)

Kamyria

That’s my question… why isn’t there more blends available with green rooibos?

Sipdown!

I got this shou a year ago with my very first Verdant Tea order and it was the very first pu’erh I tried. I remember getting a head rush after drinking it. :D

A year later only a little bit remained on the bottom of the pouch… Some broken leaves and dust, all in all about 4 gram worth. I just threw it all into my little pot and steeped it for 3 seconds in 6 ounces of boiling water.

I was thrown into the deep woods where caves open up to the forest floor and moss covers every rock in sight. I can smell the pine in the air but see no sun… It’s misty, and mysterious. I lie down on the ground and peer into one of the caves… the scent is intoxicating… earth, moss, wet rock, wet wood.

Yummy.

TheTeaFairy

Oh, I love to explore, can I go with you??

Kamyria

lol can you tell I can’t wait for the spring to come? I want to go visit all my favourite hiking places and explore new ones…. Caves are always so intriguing.

TheTeaFairy

I’m fascinated by caves, always been. Especially underwater cave. Bahamas have spectacular ones:

Profile

Bio

It’s been a while since I joined Steepster and I think it’s time to write up a bio.

I’m a stay at home, married mom with 5 kids, most of them grown up. Only one remains with us now, my 7 year old sunshine which I push out of the house to school every morning and it’s not an easy thing to do.

I’m an avid gardener during a growing season and my goal is to grow most of the food we eat and save some for winter too. I’m also an artist and a huge nerd. I read books, I play computer games. My very first game was World of Warcraft (was addicted to it solid for a year, lol), then came Skyrim, Minecraft (with my 7 year old) and few others less memorable along the way.

I began drinking tea on regular basis just over 2 years ago when I decided to kick my morning coffee habit. It wasn’t pretty… I couldn’t function for 3 days straight but survived. A year ago I discovered loose tea and found Steepster… The rest is history.

Some of the staples in my cupboard are Dragonwell green tea, Japanese sencha, Silver Needle white tea, green roobois, darjeeling and pu’erh. I also drink variety of flavored teas for fun and I like to order tisanes and mix them with straight teas for even more variety.

Recently I found out how much I love oolong so will be stocking up on that as well.

There are few other tea lovers in my family: my mom and dad, my oldest daughter, my son and my youngest 7 year old. She loves when I try out different teas and I always have to remember to make enough for her to have a little taste.
