I couldn’t resist trying this one after dinner. It was burning a hole in my mind ever since I realized it had licorice root in it and I ordered it before I realized how much I dislike licorice root in a tea. Well… let me correct that… how much I could dislike licorice root in a tea if done in a bad way. Part of me however had faith in Verdant Tea that it will be drinkable.
The dry tea smelled mostly of shu and ginger. Once I steeped it for 2 minutes over boiling water (after rinsing it), the ginger scent diminished a little and I could smell more of the earthy, woody shu.
Taking a sip… the moment of truth.
Win! If licorice is there, it’s blended in a most tasteful way because I don’t detect it much. I’m also not a huge fan of ginger but it’s so well balanced here as well. Everything works in this blend.. It’s earthy, woody, sweet and spicy. It’s also very smooth. Well done!
I like it.
