125 Tasting Notes
Brrr… it’s cold.. bitterly cold out there. Every once in a while the sun comes out and tries to deceive me that it’s not that bad…. Oh no, I ain’t buying it Mr Sun!!!
This tea is better every time I drink it, I swear. A little spicy, a little sweet and very smooth. I’m not a big fan of ginger but I find that it’s very well balanced here and licorice (thank you kind spirits) is not detectable by me.
I’m really enjoying this tea… very delicious indeed.
Sipdown!
Ok, I like Earl Grey and I like vanilla… I’ve reached the end of the bag and I still don’t know if I like them together or not. I’ve never been on the fence like that before… Maybe I like it but I’m not in love with it.
I guess my quest for the perfect vanilla tea shall continue…
Sipdown!
This was a sample I got with one of my DT orders. I remember reading some reviews of it previously and I remember them being quite varied. I was interested to see what I’ll find out.
The dry tea smelled like rooibos with vanilla…. not much surprise there. I picked up more rooibos than vanilla though and cringed a bit because I’m learning that I’m not a huge fan of red rooibos.
I steeped it according to directions and when the timer rang I smelled the freshly brewed tea. Hmmm… what the heck is that? There was this smell to it… unpleasant… like some sort of a yucky bodily odour.
Being very cautious already, I poured the tea into the teapot and took a sip. Based on what I smelled I was prepared for a horror. Instead, I got quite a pleasant taste (wow, this tea is full of surprises). It wasn’t anything extraordinary, uh oh type of taste, but it was pleasant. I tasted some rooibos and I tasted vanilla. Red rooibos taste wasn’t as prominent as I thought it would be and I was happy with that.
With a cup in hand I came back to my laptop and searched for reviews of this tea on Steepster… To my utter surprise, the first review I read referred to the strange odour I smelled calling it a “stinky feet”. I wanted to compare and see if that’s indeed what I smelled but neither the tea in the teapot nor the wet leaves smell like that anymore. The strange odour has vanished like it was some sort of a phantom.
Overall, it’s ok I guess once you get past the steeping smell. I will finish what I have but will not purchase.
I was thinking of eventually purchasing this (I really want something that tastes of actual creamy vanilla and can’t seem to find it) but was turned off when I heard about the smell this gives off. I think I’ll still give it a pass.
There is nothing better for the cold weather than staying home with a hot cup of tea, looking out the window, watching the snow falling down. I’m guessing that’s more than 20 cm so far.
I’m staying in and drinking milk oolong. It’s doing its job. Keeps me warm and happy. It’s fragrant and creamy with a hint of floral notes. It’s delicious.
Ok, I’m feeling better… much better today than yesterday actually so we’re on a good track. Still didn’t get full night of sleep though. For the last 3 nights I’ve been tossing and turning, dreaming same recurring dreams almost like I’m part of some horror flick.
Last night I was dreaming about tea…. O.o I was dreaming about puer.. the sheng and the shu. Then I remember somebody telling me in my dream that green tea would be the best for cold, therefore sheng would be better than shu for the cold/flu. Then I woke up with a question on my mind… What is the best tea for the flu. So here I am in the middle of the night with my cell phone, typing in “the best tea for the cold flu” with only one eye open. The answer was green tea (because of the highest amount of catechins) and I turned my cell phone off, realizing at the same time that I’ve blinded myself in one eye.
I still can’t believe I did that.
Fast forward to this morning… I’ve cracked open a brand new bag of my beloved Dragonwell. Aaahhh… smells so good. I steeped a cup for myself and my little girl who I can hear is coughing up her lungs in another room.
The tea is fragrant, vegetal, buttery and delicious. It’s hot and feels so soothing. Yum!
Preparation
Aaaahhh… Forever Nuts is always a pleasant cup. Since I’m sick, I’m adding chamomile to anything that I can to see what works and what doesn’t. Forever Nuts works so good with chamomile. Yummy!
Mmm… This is so incredibly good. I already liked it the first time I tried it but I over-steeped it then. Today I did things the right way and this tea is simply delicious.
I used 7g tea in about 7-8 ounce of water. I rinsed it and then steeped it for just 10 seconds. The resulting liquid was pale yellow. The taste – delicious. Slightly vegetal, slightly floral, slightly astringent. The first cup went way to fast… I gulped it.
Second steep: 15 seconds in 8 ounce of water. The resulting liquid is still pale yellow. The wet leaves smell sweet and almost fruity. The taste is more pronounced now with well balanced astringency tingling my tongue throughout the sip.
Third steep: 20 seconds this time in 8 ounce of boiling water. It’s much more potent right now, the color is darker yellow, but I think I like it the best steeped for 15 seconds.
I’ll continue steeping this for the rest of the afternoon. For me this is one fine tea. I know that some people say it’s a young sheng and hasn’t reached its full potential yet. I don’t have any experience with shengs so maybe they are probably right, but I still love this sheng. If it can get better with time, then that’s even better.
Preparation
Mmmm… There is not much to say about this tisane except that I love it.
Pineapple and peach notes with bamboo base… so, so good. On account of the monster in my chest I added a little chamomile to it, resulting in a delicious and relaxing tea.
This one is going on reorder tomorrow.. I have to have more of it and I can already see the bottom of the bag. Oh horrors! :O
I was looking for something comforting and creamy this afternoon and Buttered Rum was the choice.
This tea smells delicious and tastes the same. I had it with milk today because I was looking for comfort. It’s buttery and creamy with yummy notes of coconut throughout the sip and in the aftertaste. I would have added real rum to it today (for even more comfort, lol) but there was none in the house… oh well.
I feel like there is a monster sitting in my chest… Ugh I got very little sleep last night, having the same recurring dream all night long. Woke up probably a million times. I usually don’t get sick so I’m not proud of myself for succumbing to whatever this is… a monster… that’s what.
Need to drink something light and soothing so I thought of Dragonwell. I haven’t had it in a while so I welcome the yummy vegetal and buttery flavour… This one never disappoints. :)
Haha! I ain’t buying it either!!! Brrrrrr….
