This was one of the first puerh teas that I had in my early days of tea drinking. I remember thinking that it was really good but really expensive at the time so I slowly drank it as a special occasion tea while it lasted. Recently I decided to get it again to see what I think of it now which I think is likely at least five years if not longer since the last time I’ve had it. The brew is non earthy and has a warm sweet taste to it which I’d describe as neither malty nor mellow. I know it is a character of Laocong puerh which like Menghai and Mengku puerh the unique taste defies description. Overall a wonderful tea but one that you are parying a premium for the fancy packaging.

This has to be the most unique tasting puerh that I have yet to encounter. It is much lighter and a bit more sweet than mellow. I am not sure if I’d agree with the vendor description of calling it honey like but at the same time I can not think of any better term to describe it. A very good puerh that I like for when I want something different.

This is the second time that I am brewing this tea. I found out the first time around that this is not a tea that you want to brew strong or use too much leaf as it is a lighter style puerh that is possible to over brew. Light and mellow with subtle flavors an very clean tasting. Depending upon your perspective and view on earthy puerh this is either very wonderful or a bit plain, regardless without a doubt this was made with good quality tea.

I brewed a heaping teaspoon in a mug infuser of this tea. It comes off to me as a typical and decent Yunnan Black tea, not bitter but a bit of a peppery taste to it that in my experience is unique to Yunnan black tea.

I really question how weak or how small of a cup somebody must be using to be able to steep it 10 to 20 seconds so I did a minute on my first infusion. The tea was lighter than I normally brew my puerh but it still had a decent amount of depth. I brewed a second mug with the same tea bag for a long brew and it was about the same as the first brew or maybe a little lighter. Personally I think it would be best to just brew it for a single long infusion to get a decent strength cup of puerh. Regardless I can say that this is indeed a premium puerh teabag at a level that likely rivals a lot of cheap bricks and cakes with these one is not forced to choose between bad teabag puerh or no puerh when traveling.

The thing that struck me the most about this tea upon brewing it for the first time was that the color of Goodnight Grape Sleepytime is no different than normal Sleepytime which is a refreshingly natural chance in a society obsessed with food coloring, especially in food marketed for kids, so I was expecting this tea to come out purple. The tea has a light but sweet grape flavor that overpowers most of the other herbs so it is the first and the main thing that you taste. A bit much on the sweeteners in my opinion but I am glad that they used Stevia and not chemicals or sugar to sweeten it. Personally I think a little less sweetness would do the kids good as I do not think it is a good thing to train kids that everything is supposed to be unnaturally sweet as it is just setting them up to have weight control issues when they get older. Regardless I’d say this tea has value as a midnight snack desert tea.

drank Lychee Oolong by Ten Ren

This is a very light oolong with light lychee flavor which is a bit of a surprise from how strong of a lychee aroma the dry leaf has. Overall a decent tea but I’m glad that I only got the small sample, instead of the small bag as this is a tea that I will not be buying again.

I brewed this one for 10 minutes as the upper end suggested as one that likes strong tea. Yerba Mate is hard to describe as it has both a mellow smoothness to it which is a bit like puerh but a light freshness to it which is a bit like green tea. Nice for something different and could be a possible tea alternative but not something that I plan on drinking too often.

drank Pu Erh Pearls by Adagio Teas

I brewed this one in my gaiwan with a quick rinse which loosened up the pearl enough that it started to break apart when I poured in the water for the second round. The brew was a darker mellow smooth brew with a bit of earthiness in a good way with reasonable refusability when it comes to ripe puerh.

The first infusion of this tea in a mug infuser yields a basic light and sweet green tea. The tea pearl is still partially intact but is more unraveled than not at this point. I tried a second infusion with the same conditions as the previous one and like most green tea it was really bad so I dumped it after a few sips.
