drank Dosha Chai Rooibos by Teavana
73 tasting notes

This is very flavorful, but pretty mild on the spice – just the way I like my chai. The cinnamon gives it a little warmth, and the vanilla and coconut a little sweetness. I was impressed that I didn’t have to add sweetener to this at all…I sweeten about 98% of the teas I drink, so that’s saying something. This, along with my Roasted Almond Chai from Tea’se Tea Shoppe, will remain in my regular chai rotation!

After seeing the rave reviews this tea’s been getting on Steepster, I just had to order an ounce for myself. It’s delicious! The first steeping gave me notes of caramel and honey, with a thick and smooth mouthfeel. I’m hooked.

There are few things I appreciate more than a nice, strong black tea that can stand up to a little cream and sugar. And boy, does this tea stand up well! Underneath the bold and malty taste of the nilgri is the smooth and natural flavor of vanilla. I will definitely be keeping this one in my regular rotation :)

drank White Strawberry by Adagio Teas

I just picked this up from Adagio this afternoon, and couldn’t wait to try it. However, after following the brewing instructions on the package, I’m not really tasting a lot of fruit. Perhaps I’ll over steep it next time. This is the second flavored white tea from Adagio that I’ve tried and so far, I’m not too impressed!

180 °F / 82 °C 5 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

I picked this up at Teavana a few weeks ago, after one of the sales associates alerted me to a glitch in their system that caused this tea to ring up at less than $2 per ounce. I can’t remember the actual retail price of this tea, but I happily bought 4 oz since the store was required to sell the tea at the incorrect price until the problem was fixed. I figured it would be a great chance to add some loose, unflavored green tea to my collection.

This is definitely one of the most subtle teas I’ve had. I brewed it double strength, and the taste is still extremely light – creamy, nutty, and reminiscent of lima beans. It’s also light in color (I only steeped for 1 min, as per Teavana’s instructions) and has a faint buttery aftertaste. Overall, I like it! It’s a great introduction for me into the world of pure, loose green tea.

drank Tiramisu by Tea'se Tea Shoppe

Tiramisu is one of my favorite desserts. I’ve been drawn to it for years now, but I absolutely fell in love with it during my time in Italy last summer. Ever since I’ve started trying to eat healthier, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for a tiramisu tea that I could enjoy as a substitute. This is the first one I’ve tried, and I love it! The dry aroma is heavenly – coffee and cream. Some of that disappeared in the aroma of the freshly brewed cup, but it all came right back in the taste. The label recommends 1-2 tsp of tea per 8oz, so I went with 2; I tend to like my tea strong. I steeped for 9 minutes. Luckily, it turned out perfectly. Before tasting, I entertained the notion of adding a bit of milk – but this tea doesn’t need it! Now I have something yummy to turn to when I’m craving tiramisu and can’t have any :)

Flavors: Chocolate, Coffee, Cream

Boiling 8 min or more 2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Suffice it to say it’s been a long week. Today being Friday (finally offering an opportunity to chill and de-stress), a friend and I decided to check out Tea’se Tea Shoppe after work. We only work a mile down the road, so it was quite easy to walk there. It’s an adorable shop. After sniffing nearly everything on offer, I finally settled on 2 oz of this tea, along with 4 oz of their Tiramisu.
This tea is a delight! I’m a sucker for almond in teas, and this one did not disappoint. The dry aroma gives off plenty of roasted almond, along with some apple and spice. The aroma after brewing was much the same. It tastes delicious. I added some rock sugar in for sweetness, but the almond and licorice make this tea sweet enough on its own – next time, I’ll try it without sugar. Since rooibos is its base, it’s a great dessert tea. Overall: yum!!

Flavors: Almond, Apple, Ginger, Licorice

Boiling 7 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank White Blueberry by Adagio Teas
73 tasting notes

A friend at work let me sample this – I’m drinking right now! I’m going to hold off on rating, since I can hardly taste anything. I’m not currently an avid fan of white tea, but I have had some very delicious varieties before. Therefore, I don’t think the issue is that I’m just not used to the delicate nature of white tea. I followed the brewing instructions and used the right amount of water at the right temperature, and I added a dash of honey. I’m about halfway through the cup now, and I’m only tasting the honey so far, with a faint aftertaste that might be blueberry flavor if I squint. I should also note that this was a sachet that I used, and not loose tea. I was under the impression that sachets were of comparable quality to loose tea, but I could be wrong. From some of the other tasting notes, I’m seeing that this is yummy iced; maybe I’ll try it that way next time!

drank Pu Erh Hazelberry by Adagio Teas
73 tasting notes

My first pu erh! Fortunately, I like the taste. Unfortunately, I currently have no other pu erhs to compare it to. I had been interested in trying one for a while due to their benefits for digestive health – and my recent trip to Adagio seemed like as good a time as any to finally buy one. The aroma of the dry leaves is yummy hazelnut and strawberry, which convinced me to try a brewed sample of this tea in the store. That time, I tasted both hazelnut and strawberry, with an underlying fermented (but not unpleasant) taste that I’m guessing was from the pu erh base.

Fast forward to drinking it for the first time at home. I’m slacking and still haven’t purchased a proper kettle, so I brew hot water straight from my Keurig machine. Unfortunately, it doesn’t heat water all the way to boiling, so I think that may have affected the taste of this tea. I was able to get a faint hazelnut flavor still, but I only got strawberry in the aroma and not the taste. Oh well, no matter! I’m still glad I bought this tea and look forward to getting it to taste better next time.

Flavors: Hazelnut, Strawberry

drank Blood Orange by Adagio Teas
73 tasting notes

Just visited Adagio for the first time two days ago. After the awesome staff informed me of the health benefits of hibiscus teas, I chose this tea with hibiscus and blood orange as one of my four teas. I didn’t sample it in the store first, which made me nervous – I heard hibiscus can come off as tart and sour and I wasn’t sure if adding citrus would push it over the edge. But it smelled so goooood!!!

So far, I’m happy with it – after steeping for about 8 min, I can really taste the blood orange and the hibiscus comes through also. The flavor is tart, but not excessively so, and I added a bit of sugar (I add sugar to about 90% of the teas that I drink) Also, it’s a beautiful scarlet color.

Flavors: Blood Orange, Hibiscus

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 8 min or more 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Profile

Bio

If you count the bagged stuff, I’ve been a tea drinker for a long time. I first discovered the joys of loose leaf on a trip to London in 2014, and it’s all been downhill from there. I’m still in the phase where I want to try everything, and I’m still developing my tea personality.

Types of tea / tisanes I gravitate toward: black, green oolong, Japanese green, flavored teas (sweet, floral, fruity, minty, complex, you name it), rooibos, roasted mate, and many herbal and fruit combos.

Teas I need to try, try again, or keep trying: white, pu erh, dark oolong, pure Chinese green, mate

I’ll update soon with my rating system!
