1112 Tasting Notes
Roasty fruity goodness! I was just typing with ashmanra on PM, and mentioned that I think this latest batch is fruitier than the last. A tangy fruity. I don’t know if it’s a new harvest, or just incredibly fresh, but whatever the reason, it’s sure enjoyable!
I baked chocolate chip muffins for the office, and at first I was sad that I didn’t have enough hands to carry in some milk and sugar for an Indian tea, but y’know, Emperor’s Red is one of those all purpose delicious teas that taste good with sweets, food, and is just perfect when you simply want a cup of tea. It can do no wrong in my book!
Preparation
Delicious and intense. I’m on my second steep, and it’s so rich and slightly smoky and a touch of chocolatey and Mmmmmmmm! I love this tea! What can I do – I have to add this one to my At Work Holy Grail list too. It’s strong but refined. No bitterness or rough edges but Oh – powerful!
Preparation
I agree! I had Keemun Hao Ya A from Southern Season first, and while it is good it is much weaker than the one from Harney. Youngest daughter LOVES the one from SS, but I am planning to put Harney’s on my next order. I still have just a punch of the sample left.
Vanilla Comoro and 2 giant chocolate chip cookies…for DINNER!
I ate a late lunch, then had to run to school, so I never got around to eating dinner. It was just too late to rustle up something, ah, nutritional. It felt very subversive to be An Adult and eat chocolate chip cookies and tea for dinner. I highly recommend it :)
Preparation
I think being an adult has a few benefits…one being you can have whatever you want for DINNER, without anyone telling you not to! Just so you know, you are my hero today. Definitely brought a smile to my face thinking about having cookies for dinner myself. Unfortunately, I will have to settle for the party in my mind’s eye…I am finally back on track.
SimplyJenW – I hear ya! I’m guilty of sitting down to a nice big bowl of mashed potatoes for dinner from time to time. (and nothing else!)
That made me smile, especially since I just got through with my dinner: Girl Scout cookies and Thomas Sampson!
I am egg-zausted today, and was all set to have some Yunnan tea until I walked into the office. It’s hot and humid like a sauna! I wanted something a bit refreshing that would still wake me up, and my mind went immediately to my beloved Earl Grey Supreme. The citrus is making all the difference. Refreshing and invigorating and that beautiful tea base…mmmm!
Preparation
Last night, I tried a 1 to 1 ratio of this tisane, and Monkey um, you know. It was really good! Sort of like a mix of every delightful tropical flavor you can think of…with a cherry on top! I had it with a little brown sugar and milk and it was a real dessert treat! Very smooth, and instead of being really coconut or really banana, it was just sweet and satisfying. I think I’m going to get a tin and mix these two up and make up a twee name that does not mention, ah, that word, and have it like this all the time!!
Preparation
Yesterday I FINALLY got over to Premium Steap to replenish the supply of my darling Emperor’s Red. Of course I had to have some today! Amazing, as usual. Roasty, fruity, tangy, perfect as-is. Broken record alert: “I could have this every day!”
:)
But seriously. If I wanted to make my life very simple at work, I would have this, Harney’s Golden Monkey, Harney’s Queen Catherine, Harney’s Earl Grey Supreme, Harney’s Hot Cinnamon Spice, Teas Etc Rosy Earl Grey for when I need some froof, and a few random samples for a little variety and I’d be done! I really need to work toward that! :) :) :)
Preparation
Ahhhhh – Queen Catherine and an Everything Bagel! I feel like a millionaire!
Seriously, a smoky tea and an assertive breakfast with a creamy element? My idea of heaven. The garlicy, oniony, seeded bagel with cream cheese pairs with the slightly smoky good Chinese tea like nobody’s business. I am very, very, very pleased :)
Preparation
This one is from my Secret Santa Ross Duff. Thank you, Santa!
This is such a nice change of pace for me! I was expecting it to taste Dragon Ball-ish (pastry, cinnamon) but it doesn’t taste anything like that! It tastes like raspberries with a fresh, vegetal quality somewhere in there. That part is subtle – almost like a leafy green stem of a raspberry got in there. I love it! So sweet and enjoyable. 2 minutes is just about perfect for the first steep. Smooth, no bitterness. I expect at least 3 steeps from these leaves!
…and speaking of the leaves, I have to note how dramatic and gorgeous they are! Long, twisted, and dark before steeping, and once you steep them they are enormous!!!!!
What a fantastic treat! I would purchase this tea on my own in a heartbeat. Thanks again, Ross!
Preparation
More snow! You’ve got to be kidding me!!!
I needed something lovely but with a bit of a kick after shoveling out for the umpteenth time this winter, and chose my golden favorite!!! I think what I love most about this one is that it’s so sweet and smooth, but it still gives you that invigorating black tea lift. Perfect sans additions.
Preparation
Oh despair! Talked to Harney and Sons today and was told it will be a long l-o-n-g time before they get more of this one in! I guess they have to wait for the next harvest….I am so glad I had that tiny tin hidden away!
Feel for you… I am so TIRED of the snow!!! Also sad to hear it will be awhile before Harney has it in stock. I wanted to order this from them!
JacquelineM – That is so sweet of you, but seriously, do NOT deplete your own stock of this! No need for both of us to be out of Golden Monkey! :) Unless you happened to have ordered a one pound bag and have plenty to tide you over until the next batch comes in! I think I will be ordering it by the pound when they get it again since it seems to sell out so often.
Indeed! Tomorrow I will be enjoying a cup (okay, a pot) of it with an Everything Bagel!
This one is definitely on my wishlist!
