1774 Tasting Notes
Huh, not bad for coming out of a box! I mixed it with some vanilla soy milk which may have been a mistake because it is a bit on the sweet side. I think it would have done better without the added sweetness of the soy. There is a slight soapiness to it, but only if I’m really thinking about it (which is a problem I have run into with other pumpkin spice chai). The spices seem to be mixed well with clove slightly dominating. There is something leaving a nice little burn in my throat after each sip and I can’t tell if it is pepper or ginger. I’m on the verge of getting a cold, so the extra heat feels good and my whole body warmed up a bit after several sips. I put a little of the concentrated tea in the pot of oatmeal that I was making and it made it smell really good, but it’s hard to tell if the taste came through especially when I’m sipping on a mug of it. I’ll have to experiment more in the future with oatmeal chai.
This tea is so confusing! So it’s a white tea that you steep at black temps that tastes light a light black? Whatever it is, I like it! It has a light malty flavor, no bitterness, it’s a little sweet and somehow hearty. I’m really enjoying it!
Thanks Greenteafairy for the chance to try this!
Preparation
I’m liking this tea better as it cools. When it was hot I could smell the rum part, but it wasn’t translating to the taste. I could taste a little caramel, but it wasn’t super strong. Now that it is cooler, I’m getting that butterscotch combo of the flavors playing off each other. It tastes a little stronger, but it’s still not amazing. Maybe with some sweetener it would taste better, but that is an experiment for another cup. It’s late and I’m not venturing back downstairs for sugar.
Preparation
You know you bought too much tea over the summer when six months later you still haven’t tried all that you got! This is the first time I have tried this tea. It looks like there are little gold flecks floating around in my cup, similar to David’s Glitter and Gold. I’ll have to use a clear mug next time to get the full visual effect. I can taste the lychee right away which fades into an almost strawberry taste at the end. I’m not able to pick out the jasmine, but there is a tang on the sides of my tongue that is reminiscent of jasmine. The aftertaste is a nice lingering lychee. I’m liking this! Might see how sweetening it works on my next cup.
Preparation
First try tonight with this tea was over steeped by 20 minutes and horribly bitter! I had to dump it, start again and not get distracted while steeping.
This tastes so much like those Asian gummy candy I used to get in Chinatown when I worked in Northbeach. Ah memories! I couldn’t tell you which fruit flavor exactly, just not apple or grape. It has this lychee muscat thing going for it most of the time. I get a little strawberry here and there. As it cools the flavors start to go flat and my mouth becomes more dry, so this is definately one to drink while hot. I could see it doing well cold brewed too, but room temp does it no favors! I added a touch of sugar and would love to try it with cream at some point. I have a feeling it’s either going to be really good or really bad that way! I am enjoying this and am happy to have another decaf option in my stash.
Preparation
I love this tea and apparently so does my kid! I’m going to take a moment to gush about my little guy, which I don’t normally do. He was squawking about my tea and wouldn’t hush, so I caved and made him a cup of this. I had to hold the mug for him to sip so he wouldn’t break it. He started taking little sips, then trotting off to his toys, reaching the toys and turning around for another sip. Then I started getting the sweetest baby hugs between sips and he hung out in my lap while drinking the rest of his mug. He was so excited to have tea and I’m excited that rooibos is supposed to help with diaper rash! This tea is kid approved!
Preparation
Having this as a latte today. I didn’t like it at the start of the cup, but it’s growing on me half way through. The cinnamon and rose are coming out quite a bit with the almond lagging behind. A little bit of a pastry taste peeks out towards the end. I’m digging it.
Preparation
Finishing off my sample of this. This tea is SUPER nutty. I’m getting a lot of walnut this time. Just read my previous note and taste the port I noted then. I added a little sugar, but it doesn’t seem to improve it. I keep trying to add cream and sugar to my teas, but it doesn’t make them better the way it used to. My taste buds must be morphing on me. Mutiny!
Preparation
SO much licorice! It has taken me a while to get used to this tea. Today I’m enjoying it naked. The tea is naked, not me. As in I didn’t add anything to it. I have clothes on. Pajamas, but they still count!
There is so much licorice that my mouth tingles a little. I get the anise mostly, dominating the front of the sip. In the after taste I can pick out some clove, maybe some cardamon. I’m not going to be heartbroken that I can’t get anymore of this tea, but I’m sure going to enjoy the hell out of the rest that I have.
And it goes well with the New Year’s Day black eyed peas that I’m eating.
Happy New Years y’all!
P.S. I think Stacy’s closing thread should have had this tea somewhere in the title. Because I sometimes like cheesy puns.
