1811 Tasting Notes
I bought the smaller sample size of this and opened the bag this morning to see that I only had two servings left. One now. I guess I’ve been enjoying this and haven’t made tasting notes yet. It has a very deep chocolate taste on the sip that morphs into cherry in the finish. There is something a little tart and briefly hollow in the sip. Chocolate can be tart at times and the hollowness might be the lack of sweet messing with my brain’s established idea of chocolate flavor. If I sip too frequently the flavors get muddled. This is a tea to sip slowly. As it cools I get more of an overlap of the chocolate and cherry. It’s a very enjoyable tea that is easy to drink. I think I’d order this one again.
Preparation
Oh Steepster, you fussy old beast! I keep getting error/timed out pages when I try to do anything here, so I’m back to writing my notes elsewhere and pasting them so I don’t lose them when the beast throws a fit and reloads a page, dumping all I wrote.
This tea is described in a way that would make me think it’s trying to be an EG. I assume that with anything that has bergamot. It took me a few sips before I was able to clearly detect the berg. I was getting this mellow hint of smokiness. It was dark and moderately heavy without being too heavy. When I sip on, the berg comes out and brightens the sip and is then followed by light smoke in the finish. I don’t know what Peruvian herbs they added to this, but it has an interesting flavor.
Sipping on this makes me think of the art gallery store where I found this tea in Lima. It wasn’t long ago, but I think I’m ready for another out of country adventure. If only I could live a life of frequent vacations!
Preparation
Smells smoky with a little bit of chocolate or cherry. It tastes very light! It’s like it is all mid and high notes, but lacks a grounding base. It tastes very floaty. The finish has some tannins. I added some cream to see if that balanced things out. It brought out the dark fruit notes, but it still tastes hollow overall. I feel like I’m describing this very ethereally, but they are the best descriptors I can come up with. I could see having a cup of this with some spirits in the haunted woods. Very seasonally appropriate with Halloween at the end of the month!
Preparation
I can’t recall if I’ve had this one before. It’s a little bit herbal on the sip, with a complexity that reminds me of bitters if they weren’t bitter. Definitely a smokey dark profile to it. I was getting more of the bright orange when I started drinking this cup, but it seems to have faded. A little sweetness from the blackberry leaves. It’s a nice cup. Not something I’d rush out to buy.
Preparation
Ooooo, I like this! It says to add 5-7 matcha spoons of this to your cup. I blended two into a half cup oat milk and it wasn’t quite enough. Doubled that and it was a little too much, but still good. This has a bunch of powdered coconut water in it, so it may have been okay to use water instead of oatmilk. The coconut water gives it a little sweetness. The turmeric adds a little warming spice. The matcha flavor is pretty faint. I like this! I wonder how easy it would be to recreate with turmeric and matcha.
