1433 Tasting Notes
Sipdown! Goodbye autumn leaves, and hello summer!
This was decent but I think I’m going to stick with the black tea based Maple Seduction from Steam- the sweetness isn’t as cloying there, which is great. This, and the version from David’s, are a bit much for me, unfortunately. Neither rooibos or maple are a particular favourite of mine, although I enjoy them in small doses.
I’ll have to pick up some maple rooibos another time, though- I keep forgetting I want to try mixing it with lapsang souchong.
Preparation
The dry leaves have a sweet and dry aroma, and the liquor smells honeyed with the faintest touch of malt. The lightness of the cup prevents it from pairing too well with milk but it re-steeps great.
This is a nice smooth and round tea; I can see where they draw the sweet potato comparison from. I most easily pick out the fruity and floral sweet notes, and then the malt. Bigger gulps make me think of fruitier dark chocolate near the finish, but it’s a loose association. There’s a lot going on with this tea- it’s deceiving.
Despite the gentleness of this tea it makes me think of rainy winter days where my clothes have been soaked through; I can see me wanting a cup of this then. It’s not something I’d reach for all the time though.
Preparation
This is a lot more floral than the other cherry green I’ve had in the past, but that’s not surprising since there are rose petals in this blend.
The liquor smells like sour cherry blasters. The flavour reminds me of those same cherry blasters, coupled with Turkish Delights (it’s the rose). It’s a very, refreshing dessert-like cup that I enjoyed most when it naturally cooled. If I ever crave cherry blasters without wanting all that extra sugar I’ll probably reach for this.
Thanks, OMGsrsly! I only have one Steam Tea packet left to try from you.
Preparation
Fiddling was kind enough to send this my way, along with a load of other Harney & Sons samples. Thank you!
This is a backlog from two days ago- I oversteeped this tea twice, but it didn’t bite me for it. It had a pleasant nutty sweet flavour that is a nice alternative to the more common peach black blends. I added milk to the last cup and that was good too.
Preparation
Iced latte makes this. Just creamy, fluffy sugar goodness.
I wonder what the difference is between this and the Southern Boy Cotton Candy Iced Tea. CTC?
Preparation
The base tea is the only difference. The 52teas version uses our black tea blend base of Chinese and Indian teas (Assam and Darjeeling), the SBT version for iced teas uses an organic Nilgiri BOPFS base.
This is so delicious.
I put four pearls in my tiny glass gongfu and have re-steeped them about six times today. The first cups were chocolate and malt but the last cup was quite peppery!
It took over two months for Teavivre’s package to reach me but I’m already down for two teas I need more of. It was worth the wait.
Preparation
Thank you, although the wait wasn’t too bad! The staff at TeaVivre were amazing at tracking my order and keeping me updated; I felt really looked after the whole time.
Due to some reasons, the package will take a longer time than usual. Here we list the actual delivery time of major countries we delivered packages last month (May, 2013). http://www.teavivre.com/faq/_c_shipping-information/
This seaweed smelling tea is from Jackie T! I read the vague wiki stub on bancha to get a sense of what this was; hopefully it isn’t completely inaccurate.
I steeped it in 175F, according to my kettle, for a little over a minute. My first cup was extremely buttery and smooth with a solid vegetal leaning. This cup was on the yummy and simple side.
There’s a good chance that the mug I used was contaminated with a dessert tea I drank earlier so I switched mug and strainer, and dumped in another teaspoon of leaves. Yep! This is a lot more vegetal and seaweed-like this time, like a less energetic sencha. It’s not very exciting but it does the trick.
Thanks again, Jackie T! I haven’t had a lot of green tea lately and this is a nice change of pace.
Preparation
I’ve oversteeped this more times than I can count and it still manages to taste mellow and smooth with the milk. I wouldn’t call it flat, per say; prairie land has a crazy amount of texture and dips if you look close enough.
I wish I could say what kind of coconut this reminded me of or what base I think it has. Unfortunately, I chugged away six big mugs-worth of this tea without ever giving it the attention it deserved. And now it’s gone.
I enjoyed the short time I had with this tea and my empty mug smells of coconut macaroons- all good things, I think! Thanks OMGsrsly. :)
Preparation
I’ve decided that this tea and Star Trek are going to be an integral part of my life starting now. Small commitments.
Preparation
I would love a sample! :D Just enough for a cup would be plenty. I was up in the air about buying this for the longest time, because I don’t always like 52teas’ lemony flavours, and then it sold out :( Feel free to peruse my cupboard as well if you’d like :)
Chelle, I found this tea to be quite strong the first time I had it too. I’ll write a more detailed note on the tea after I’ve tried it as an iced latte.
Fuzzy_Peachkin, Right now I’m into the latest two movies and the original series with Shatner, Takei, etc. I haven’t seen anything else. Yet.
Oooh that’s pretty exciting! I should watch the original series back to back! My bf and roommate love Star Trek, but they don’t want to watch the episodes in order – they’d rather show me “the BEST”. I tried telling them that I watch Doctor Who and Harry Potter and I have a pretty good tolerance… but nooooooo.
The lavender is strong with this one.
So strong that it’s actually giving the bergamot a run for it’s money. I’d like to think that lavender and bergamot are partners in crime here, as they seem to be working well together, but the lavender definitely has the upper.. er.. petal here.
This tastes the best lukewarm- it prevents lavender from getting too cocky and blundering up the situation. Milk also keeps everyone together.
Silliness aside, this is actually a nice Earl Grey and the bergamot dosage is at a level I can handle. The lavender is extreme, and while I appreciate the hefty flower punch and its lingering sensations it’s not for everyone. I like the thin, twiggy loose leaves here too.
Thanks, OMGsrsly, for this sample and introducing me to Steam!
Edit: Just to get a couple other perspectives on this, my mom said this was delicious and my dad thought it tasted like dishwasher soap. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.
Preparation
I really like this one, although keep in mind that I really like flowery teas. I’m not buying anymore tea until a sale catches my eye I go back to school, but when I do I’m going to stock up on the Maple Seduction and either this or one of the two Earl Grey Creams.
