Nabo 2023 Advent Day 4: Citrusfest

This is giving bergamot and lime peel. Not a fan.

Nabo 2023 Advent Day 3: Skogsbär

Far too rooibos-y and too cinnamon-y for my liking. I left this sitting on the counter and thought I’d give it another chance before dumping the remaining half mug, but the liquorice root had come out full-force and was cloying.

Nabo 2023 Advent Day 1: Sweet Chai of Mine

We had kind of a rough year and I wasn’t feeling at all festive and didn’t order any advents. But, we were delayed at the Toronto airport for 12 hours on 30-Nov and I emailed Nabo on a whim to order these advents for when we got back. I’m feeling much better that I ordered them and now I can join in the advent fun with everyone here. :)

This is an interesting chai. The lemongrass isn’t coming across as lemongrass, but is adding a lightness and smoothness to the tea. The cinnamon is dominant , mixed with the pink peppercorns to make it almost candy cinnamon heart-esque.

I am glad things are picking up! Enjoy your advent tea!

Nabo 2023 Advent Day 2: Rom och Kako

This tea has captured the rum, but mellowed it out significantly with a real creaminess that I’m assuming comes from the cacao shells. The combination means neither flavour is super prominent, but it’s a lovely cuppa to enjoy as my breakfast tea today. I might consider ordering this one as an easy tea to have at work.

P.S. Starting this one Day 2 because I can’t post to the Day 1 tea (I also tried posting to Random Steepings and that isn’t working for me either). It does seem to be user-specific, ugh.

This one is quite lovely. The raspberry flavour is well done and comes across clearly. The linden is adding some softness to the background. Thanks Martin!

drank Frosty Afternoon by Basilur

I can smell the orange and passionfruit — both flavours that I like, yet overall it makes me feel queasy? Taking a sip didn’t help, there’s an almost marshmallow-filling-the-mouth feeling that only furthered the queasiness. There’s no reason this shouldn’t have worked, but I’ll save the remaining teabag for a few months from now — maybe then I can appreciate it for what it’s meant to be.

Thank you to Martin for this tea!

This leans into the clove flavour, which I often find both strong yet thin. Whenever clove is heavily included, it tastes like clove water. I would say that’s true here where it seems to lack some depth. The cinnamon is there too, but behind the clove. Unfortunately I don’t get any almond. Regardless, not a bad tea, but there are nicer winter spice teas out there.

Definitely I agree there can be improvements in this blend.

I have purposely not been looking up any of the teas from Martin prior to steeping them and was pleasantly surprised when this was lemongrass. The green tea is very much present and the lemongrass is equal/slightly behind it. Quite well balanced and not all lemongrass. I really enjoyed this cup, so thank you for sharing Martin!

drank Orange Cocktail by Curtis

There is an orange flavour here, but as the tea cools the “cocktail” flavour which is kind of champagne-y takes over more and more. It’s not for me as, but it is right on the mark. Curtis never fails to impress. Thank you Martin!

Definitely it was a little bit effervescent.

This smells like apple cider! There is an incredible natural sweetness here that is also reminiscent of cider. There is the apple and the pear is also quite nice here (though falls more into the background compared to the apple). There are whispers of tartness that make me think of plums as well. This tea is really lovely and I wouldn’t mind having this one around — especially given how easy it is in teabag form. Thank you Martin for sharing!

Profile

Bio

I love black and oolong (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted) teas, followed by green or red rooibos, herbals, whites, and subtly flavoured greens.

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, apricot, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it.

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan and have an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I’ll happily pick them out of blends).
