Nabo 2023 Advent Day 1: Sweet Chai of Mine
We had kind of a rough year and I wasn’t feeling at all festive and didn’t order any advents. But, we were delayed at the Toronto airport for 12 hours on 30-Nov and I emailed Nabo on a whim to order these advents for when we got back. I’m feeling much better that I ordered them and now I can join in the advent fun with everyone here. :)
This is an interesting chai. The lemongrass isn’t coming across as lemongrass, but is adding a lightness and smoothness to the tea. The cinnamon is dominant , mixed with the pink peppercorns to make it almost candy cinnamon heart-esque.
Nabo 2023 Advent Day 2: Rom och Kako
This tea has captured the rum, but mellowed it out significantly with a real creaminess that I’m assuming comes from the cacao shells. The combination means neither flavour is super prominent, but it’s a lovely cuppa to enjoy as my breakfast tea today. I might consider ordering this one as an easy tea to have at work.
I can smell the orange and passionfruit — both flavours that I like, yet overall it makes me feel queasy? Taking a sip didn’t help, there’s an almost marshmallow-filling-the-mouth feeling that only furthered the queasiness. There’s no reason this shouldn’t have worked, but I’ll save the remaining teabag for a few months from now — maybe then I can appreciate it for what it’s meant to be.

Thank you to Martin for this tea!
This leans into the clove flavour, which I often find both strong yet thin. Whenever clove is heavily included, it tastes like clove water. I would say that’s true here where it seems to lack some depth. The cinnamon is there too, but behind the clove. Unfortunately I don’t get any almond. Regardless, not a bad tea, but there are nicer winter spice teas out there.

I have purposely not been looking up any of the teas from Martin prior to steeping them and was pleasantly surprised when this was lemongrass. The green tea is very much present and the lemongrass is equal/slightly behind it. Quite well balanced and not all lemongrass. I really enjoyed this cup, so thank you for sharing Martin!

There is an orange flavour here, but as the tea cools the “cocktail” flavour which is kind of champagne-y takes over more and more. It’s not for me as, but it is right on the mark. Curtis never fails to impress. Thank you Martin!

This smells like apple cider! There is an incredible natural sweetness here that is also reminiscent of cider. There is the apple and the pear is also quite nice here (though falls more into the background compared to the apple). There are whispers of tartness that make me think of plums as well. This tea is really lovely and I wouldn’t mind having this one around — especially given how easy it is in teabag form. Thank you Martin for sharing!
