Super crappy night tonight. My cousin (who is the closest thing I have to a sister since they lived with us when she was little) got married last weekend in Niagara Falls. Small ceremony but the grooms Italian family wanted them to have a party so that is tomorrow night. I told her my gift to them would be the wedding cake. It is not real cake but styrofoam. So far it has cost me about $300 to get the supplies for it. Well tonight I have spent 6 hours trying to get the “cake” covered in fondant. I got the top tier (6inch) and middle tier (10 inch) covered but I have tried 5 times to get the bottom tier done and it just isn’t happening. As it stands now I am out of fondant and am really hoping my cake instructor can bail me out in the morning and cover this cake for me. My dining room table is covered in shortening and I am just done. So stressed that I am not going to be able to get it done and she won’t like a 2 tier cake. So worried about this it isn’t funny.
Anyway to make a long story short (too late) I decided to break into my stash of Pink Flamingo to calm my nerves. Seems to be working. I am really going to miss this tea when I run out as I have found nothing like it. At least tonight it is here to help me out.

I’m not having a good night, either :( Can’t sleep because I’m in so much pain.
I wish you lots of good luck in finishing the cake.

Cattibrie

My cake instructor called this morning and she is going to help me at 10am so I am feeling better. Of course my son took a tumble while running in the house and now has a huge goose-egg on his forehead just in time for the wedding. UGH. At least the purple will match his tie for the wedding.
Hope you got rid of the pain enough to get some sleep Ashley.

Jenn

First, you’re a saint for making anyone a wedding cake. That is an incredibly daunting task that many bakeries won’t even take on.

Second, if someone loved me enough to take on such a labor intensive task for my wedding, that cake would be the best most beautiful cake ever in my eyes because it was made with love.

Third, I bet it turns out fab :) Post a picture from the wedding if you can.

Cattibrie

Thanks Jenn. I felt better when we got the tier covered and the proffesional had a hard time getting it done right. Luckily I had a wide ribbon to put on it so that hid some sins.
The cake looked great when it was done. My aunt was in tears when she saw it and the groom made me cry when he thanked me during their speech for an “amazing cake that matched their vision”. I am just glad it is done and hoping that my cousin who is getting married next summer doens’t ask me to do their cake. I think 2 wedding cakes is my limit.
I will post a picture of the finished cake if I can figure out how to do it.

Wow. Forgot I bought this one. I added some brown sugar before the hot water adn it was great. Lots of flavour. Strange that it tastes like Rum with none in it. You can taste all the elements in it. I am not a huge coconut fan and this was great even with the taste of coconut.

And I only got a 50g bag but it was so filled I think this will last me awhile. Can’t wait to throw a little rum in it on a cold winter night. This is defiantely a keeper.

I wasn’t sure what I was in the mood for tonight. But it was kind of a tough day with the 2 year old (someone please tell me it gets better as they get older argh) so I decided to go with Pink Flamingo even though I don’t have much left of it and it is my favourite tea.

This did not dissapoint. So amazing. I have finally figured out that it is the grapefruit smell and taste that I love so much in this tea. And the fact that it is pink when brewed makes me really, girly happy. LOL. Hopefully my stash will hold on until next spring when they will hopefully bring this back. So sad I am almost out of it though.

Faith

It’s back for a limited time!

Cattibrie

I am hoping it comes back in spring to still. I have to do an order in the next couple of days to get it and I think I am ordering about 500 grams. It is my happy tea.

drank Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

Decided to try this in a different way today. I filled about 2/3rds of my travel mug with milk and added some hot water. Then I took that and put it in a pot on the stove. Added 2tsps of brown sugar and about 2 tsps of the loose leaf and turned the heat on. About 5 minutes later I turned the heat down to low after the liquid was boiling. Then I left it for 3 minutes and strained it back into my travel mug. It didn’t quite fill the mug so I added some cold milk (which also allowed me to drink it right away) and OMG. This was a-ma-zing. I can’t say enough good things about this. It did change the taste a little and I lost some of the pumpkin pie in a mug flavour but there was still pumpkin and the cinnamon came out even more. It also thickened it up some. I will be doing this again when I have the time and am not just quickly making a tea before we walk out the door. Soooo good.

Mm, I’ve been wanting to stovetop this in milk. In fact I think I might do it right now.

Faith

One way to keep more of the pumpkin pie flavour would be to steep it in hot water for a couple minutes, THEN add it to the hot milk on the stove. That way the steeping process is jump-started and the milk can’t totally interfere with it.

Cattibrie

Good idea Faith. Thanks. I did this again tonight and steeped it for a little longer in the milk and it was even better. I will give your suggestion a try also.

Really enjoying this one tonight. I have noticed on the David’s facebook page that some people are having issues with the yogurt drops curdling but I didn’t have that problem at all. Of course with that warning I made sure to stick to the middle of the recommended steeping time which is not normal for me with a black tea. Normally I leave the leaves in with a black.
I didn’t add any sugar or milk to it and it is wonderful. Lots of peach scent but not a lot of peach flavour. The yogurt flavour is right there though. Tastes great.

Edit… As it is cooling I am getting more peach flavour and less of the yogurt. When I first started this cup I wasn’t sure if I would rebuy but now I am thinking I will need to buy some more soon if it doesn’t become permanent.

Wow. 2 for 2 with these teas today. I added the milk and some brown sugar before I put the hot water in it to let it steep. So good. Pumpkin pie in a glass. This will be so good to drink all fall and winter. I guess I need to buy lots more of it.

Can someone tell me how to do this as a regular chai? I have never made a chai the traditional way and would love to learn how to do this.

Ashley Bain

I am SO excited to try this tea. Especially since fall’s rolling around and I’m REALLY craving some pumpkin pie.

Daisy Chubb

You should be excited Ash.
It’s been loyally by my pumpkin-pie-craving-side since I bought it 2 days ago ^^

OMG I am in love with a new tea. This is amazing. I loved the smell of it dry and then when it was steeped it smelled just like apple cider. So amazing. The taste is a little less apple cider but it is still amazing. I think I will try this iced tomorrow since we are supposed to be having a hot day.

Loving the fall teas.

drank Buttercream by DAVIDsTEA

Got my order earlier today and this was the first one I decided to try. Not sure why since I am so excited about Mom’s Apple Pie and Pumpkin Chai. But this was a really nice tea. Didn’t taste like buttercream to me but I make a really good buttercream icing with some vanilla so maybe that is what I am missing. Maybe I should add a small amount of my vanilla flavouring to it to kick up the taste.

A very light tea but quite refreshing. I may try this iced later. As of right now I don’t think that I will rebuy this one. But you never know.

Ashley Bain

aw. I was hoping this would be bursting with frostingy goodness. :(

drank Citron Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

Had this tonight. I enjoyed it because I am a big fan of lemon but I really didn’t get much oolong with it. I wonder if it is my small sample size since I got 14g at the store on Saturday so maybe it wasn’t well combined. It was a very light coloured tea and I steeped it for almost the full 7 minutes. Tomorrow I will resteep and leave the tea in and see if I can get more oolong flavour out of it.

Funny that I really have no experience with oolongs but I am really enjoying them. Normally I am more of a black or green tea person. Thanks to everyone on here who have helped me broaden my tea horizons.
