This is actually the third time I’ve tried to write a review for this tea over the past few months. My feelings change with each cup of it, so I’ve had a difficult time figuring out what to say. Which ingredients end up in your cup play a big part in the flavor. Some steeps are super orangey. Others are super nutty. Sometimes I find it bitter and strange. Other times I find it quite nice. I love the fun ingredients in this blend, and I guess now that I’m at the end of my 2 oz of this tea, I’m ready to announce a verdict. I don’t think I would buy this again since it’s too inconsistent, but it ended up being all right! Also I don’t know why DavidsTea uses vegetarian marshmallows in some of its blends and not others. Seems like they might as well use them in all of them to be more inclusive?

The grapefruit flavor is strong and sour and sweet in just the right combination. The tea is also given depth through the herbaceous ingredients, my favorite definitely being the eucalyptus. In some cups it all works really well together. Sometimes I find it to be a bit too much. I definitely give it points for creativity and freshness of flavor. It’s best cold.

I enjoy licorice root in tea, but I didn’t like the way this tea achieved the licorice flavor. It was very sour/bitter. But you know what, I probably just overbrewed it, so I won’t rate it. It’s too bad because I was looking forward to trying this one, and I used up my whole sample. Thanks to tea-sipper for the swap!

This tea smells sort of gross. The flavor is fine. It has a fake sort of sweetness. It’s more fruity than caramel though. I really wouldn’t be able to guess what flavor it’s supposed to be, but maybe I could see that it’s caramel if I’m concentrating. The rooibos is decent.

Thanks so much to tea-sipper for the swap! This tea definitely seems more like chocolate than like earl grey, though I feel like I can sense a bit of greyness down below. I would have preferred a bit of a stronger bergamot, but with milk and sugar, this is a very pleasant cup. It’s not a flavor combo I expected to work, but it did! The resteep was too weak, but I quite enjoyed the first steep.

Very welcome. :D

The flavor here reminds me of B&B’s birthday cake tea, one of my absolute favorites. However, this blend is somehow weaker and faker. The blueberries are fun, but not strong enough. It just ends up tasting kind of old and strange, which is a shame because this is one I was positive I would love. It’s not bad, but I also had high expectations for it. It’s still a decent rooibos and a bit cakey, but much too muted. I’ve had it both with and without milk.

Thanks for adding this one to the tea box, tea-sipper! I’ve been meaning to buy some plain lavender forever but never got around to it. I’ve been adding this to earl grey lattes at a ratio of 2 tsp decaf earl grey to 1.5 tsp lavender for a large mug. I’m afraid that regular earl grey will taste boring now! This offers a nice lavender flavor. I’d probably want to try another brand to compare, but I definitely want to buy some lavender from someone. Or maybe grow my own?

Not hard to grow!

I’m starting an herb garden in a few weeks, so I can definitely try it!

I get lavender at the farmer’s market. Lavender latte’s are fabulous, I especially love the flavor with coconut milk! I also make my own deoderizer spray for the house by steeping up a few teaspoons of lavender, letting the brew cool, then mixing it with a teaspoon of lemon juice and putting it in a spray bottle and topping with a bit of water. Has so many uses!

Oh, and with iced tea season here, I also love adding a few teabags full of lavender buds to a pitcher of lemonade! It’s a wonderful flavor combination.

Certainly you can grow it yourself :) And certainly the plant is very pretty in few years!

I absolutely love all these ideas. Another thing I want to try is mixing it with my taro powder and having taro lavender bubble tea!

Mastress Alita

Lavender black tea is my favorite flavor at my local bubble tea place! I have crushed lavender buds in a coffee/spice grinder to a powder and mixed it with sugar and cocoa powder to make lavender flavored hot chocolate, which is de-li-cious! (Rose cocoa also is great!)

Nattie

Oooh these are such interesting ideas!

This tea tastes like a generic, low quality fruit tea with its hint of artificiality. It’s fruity and not overly sour. It doesn’t taste like any particular fruit. It’s best cold, but not great generally.

Eelong

I have an ounce of this sitting in the bottom of my herbal box. The smell alone is…. underwhelming. Seems like a waste of the 5 minutes it takes to brew it up.

Another tea from the tea box! This one tastes rather rich and malty. It doesn’t need milk since it tastes complex and deep on its own. This would be a great breakfast tea!

I see prickly pears every time I go hiking, but I’ve never tried cooking with them. Based on how tasty this tea is, I might need to change that! Hot, it’s a bit sour, but cold with sugar, this tea really, really shines. The flavor is so bright and interesting. It’s sweet, tart, fruity, and refreshing. I’ve been drinking it every day. Green rooibos fruit blends are a particular love of mine.

I’m an event planner who always has multiple mugs of tea beside me. Hobbies other than tea include board games, video games, cooking international dishes, science fiction, hiking, jigsaw puzzles, tap dancing, reading, listening to podcasts, and playing with my troublesome kitties.

Favorite flavors: dessert flavors, nutty, melon, mint, strawberry, anything rooibos-related.

Don’t prefer: Smoky, rosemary, savory flavors, floral (other than lavender), plain tea.

I always drink flavored tea, and preferably caffeine-free or black. I’ll try just about anything though! Let me know if you’re interested in a swap!

My ratings are kind of meaningless, but basically
90-100 pretty perfect
80-89 really good
70-79 good, but not the best
60-69 okay, but probably not for me
1-59 varying degrees of dislike
