1712 Tasting Notes

Another bag sampled from my family’s stash. As it cools, the spices kind of disappear and make it taste like nothing. Hot it was decent, but definitely not strongly gingerbread. Maybe next time I’ll throw two bags in. It’s not like I’m having a bad time drinking this, but it could really use a lot more flavor if it wants to call itself gingerbread. I’d call the flavor mild ginger with a little of something else in there. If you want a spicy Celestial Seasonings tea, go with Bengal Spice. It’s possible that this box is rather old, so I won’t leave a numerical rating.

I always get a cup or two of this when I’m visiting family. I usually find cranberry flavored things to be too sour, but this one isn’t! The vanilla definitely balances it out, making it taste creamy and delicious. It really is a special flavor combination. A bit tart, then creamy and warm.

Visiting family for the holidays, and this is one of the teas they have stocked. I usually add lots of sugar to teas, but this one had none, so it was very tart. It tastes mostly like sour hibiscus with a quite nice cherry finish. I’m sure I’d like this a lot with sugar added. Plain… I enjoyed it, I’d drink it like that again, but I wouldn’t prefer it.

drank Mango Very Much by Pretty Tea
1712 tasting notes

Got this as a sample in my mystery box. The label was totally in French, so I had to do some Google tanslations to figure out what I was drinking. I love mango, so I was hoping to taste lots of that. Unfortunately, it tastes like plain tea. It tastes more like a green than a white, but maybe I’m crazy because it seemed grassy to me. I’ve had bai mudan before, and it’s usually much lighter and milder. As someone who basically never drinks plain tea, I wasn’t thrilled.

This is the tea that taught me that I actually do like hibiscus. I got it in a mystery box from Pretty Tea. It was three large teas plus a small sample on sale for like $16 including shipping to the US from Canada. Pretty awesome value. Anyway, the melon cubes in this are so tasty that I always eat them after my tea has brewed. The various fruits blend so well together. The website has said it’s sold out for a while, so hopefully it comes back!

drank Supreme Breakfast by Harney & Sons

Another Harney sample from Ost. This one doesn’t need milk at all. It’s malty and dark. I like it!

drank Just Beet It by DAVIDsTEA
1712 tasting notes

Got this as a free sample with my summer sale order. As a beet lover, it would’ve been fun to taste some beet in there, but maybe we weren’t supposed to taste any. It mostly tastes like other Davids berry teas. So it’s tasty, but a bit generic. Also, I prefer caffeine-free teas, so adding mate, which adds caffeine, but no flavor here, was a little annoying for me. So I enjoyed my sample, but I’d choose other Davids fruit teas over this one.

drank Irish Breakfast by Harney & Sons

I got a sample of this from Ost. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a breakfast tea, but they’re nice to have occasionally. I’m not too familiar with the right words to describe a black tea, but this tastes kind of similar to golden monkey teas I’ve had in the past. My steep time was a little shorter than usual to avoid bitterness. It tasted nice alone, but I added milk and sugar because that’s my preferred way to consume black teas. I don’t usually want this much caffeine at a time, so I won’t restock, but it tastes good if this is the sort of thing you want.

drank Lemon Pound Cake by DAVIDsTEA

I got this one from Ost. This tastes like lemongrass, and it also tastes buttery and cakey. I really like it. Lemongrass in dessert teas really works for me for some reason!

drank Sweet Almond Green by DAVIDsTEA

Almond is my absolute favorite, so I was pretty excited to try this tea. I really think it would have been better as a white or oolong tea. The green just does not go well with the almond. The almond smell is very strong, and the flavor is too. It’s like an almond dessert. It’s good. I just would’ve preferred a different base.

Bio

I’m an event planner who always has multiple mugs of tea beside me. Hobbies other than tea include board games, video games, cooking international dishes, science fiction, hiking, jigsaw puzzles, tap dancing, reading, listening to podcasts, and playing with my troublesome kitties.

Favorite flavors: dessert flavors, nutty, melon, mint, strawberry, anything rooibos-related.

Don’t prefer: Smoky, rosemary, savory flavors, floral (other than lavender), plain tea.

I always drink flavored tea, and preferably caffeine-free or black. I’ll try just about anything though! Let me know if you’re interested in a swap!

My ratings are kind of meaningless, but basically
90-100 pretty perfect
80-89 really good
70-79 good, but not the best
60-69 okay, but probably not for me
1-59 varying degrees of dislike
