I don’t like the candy that this tea is named for, so I’m not sure what my reasoning was for buying it. The flavor is pretty similar to other B&B blends that contain chocolate. With sugar and milk, it’s pleasant. I don’t taste any nuttiness, but the cocoa shells are nice. It’s a mild, tasty blend. Nothing about it really stands out from other blends though, and as I mentioned, it’s quite light. Maybe overleafing this would make it more interesting. I made my resteep in a much smaller mug, and that actually tasted better than the first steep – like a dark chocolate hot chocolate. Yeah, I’ll definitely be overleafing in the future. I wish I tasted some nuttiness!

drank Elderflower Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

I picked this tea because the flavor sounded different and interesting. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it very much. It’s too sour and also very floral. I feel like the floral flavor could have been better with a different base. Maybe with a black tea or maybe with a mostly strawberry herbal base. Unfortunately, I feel that this one needs a few tweaks to be good. As I drank it, I did start to get used to and sort of enjoy it, but it’s definitely not one I would reach for often. I’ve tried it brewed regularly and also cold brewed. The latter might result in a slightly less sour brew, but I’m not sure.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by “maybe with strawberries”? Like, more strawberries? This definitely wasn’t my favourite either – but funnily for the opposite reason; I thought it was too much strawberry/lemon and not enough actual elderflower XD

AJRimmer

Oh I guess I could edit to make it more clear. I meant as an herbal blend focusing on the strawberry and elderflower, but removing whatever is making it so sour. Whoops!

Makes sense! :)

drank Juniper Joy by DAVIDsTEA

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this one, but the result is lightly fruity. It’s a little thinner than I would like. Also it contains an almost pointless amount of black tea. I am definitely enjoying how light and refreshing it is. Not sour at all, just a mild strawberry. I was really hoping to taste some juniper, but unfortunately, I didn’t.

drank Eggnog Mate by 52teas

The flavor here is quite grassy and herbaceous at first. Really what you’d expect from mate, I suppose. Once it cools, the flavor is more complex. I wouldn’t say the flavor is eggnog at all, though it is decent. I just realized what it tastes like. Thai tea! I don’t know how or why, but that’s what it tastes like.

I know I’ve been hard on ETS teas before, but this one is legitimately tasty. And it doesn’t just taste the same as many other peach blends. It does its own thing, but the peach flavor totally comes through. It’s bright and tasty, and it makes a totally lovely cold cup of tea. I cold brewed a second steep, which turned out great as well.

But does it actually taste like ice cream? I just happen to be drinking Peach Serenity at the moment, that you sent over. :D

AJRimmer

Nah, no ice cream sadly! Oh yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve had a cup of that one!

This is a tea I’ve been wanting to try for a while, so I was happy to pick some up during the last sale. The flavor is quite festive. I enjoy it a little more with milk and extra sugar. I’d say it’s a moderately spiced black tea, though I wouldn’t say there’s much cakey about it. The main flavors are clove and maybe light orange? I guess I expected this one to be more flavorful and special. It’s all right, but there are many superior teas in its category.

tea-sipper

The cakey flavor sadly disappears VERY fast after it is blended.

AJRimmer

Oh no! I guess I’m drinking this one seven months after it was bought, which is definitely longer than preferred.

drank Dandelion Detox by DAVIDsTEA

This tea tastes similar to The Glow, which is one of my favorite DT blends. I’m very happy to find a similar flavor profile, though this one leans more sour. Depending on what ingredients you end up with in your cup, sometimes it’s very sour. Otherwise, it’s almost like tasty oatmeal cookies, but this time with cranberries. Really, most of this blend is cranberry/hibiscus/rose hips, so the sourness isn’t surprising. The Glow is definitely the much better tea, but this one is an okay substitute. I’ll try to keep steep times shorter to curb the sourness.

I hesitated before buying this tea because I didn’t think I’d like the rosemary in the blend. Thankfully, I had no reason to worry, and this one might be even better than their regular decaf EG. The flavor is so complex without being harsh. The rosemary definitely works with the black tea and the bergamot. I’m drinking it as a latte, and it’s great! The second steep is as tasty as the first. And I love the lavender in here! It adds such a perfect softness. This is a great tea.

Aw, I should have brewed this one up today. Oh and I hope Lewis Carroll was one of the blends I sent you? If you liked this, I think you’d like that one.

AJRimmer

It was! I have way too many caffeinated teas in my stash, so I’ve been very slowly getting through them all, but I look forward to trying that one for sure! S&V rarely goes wrong with their black teas.

tea-sipper

Oh good, I’m glad it was in the swap! :D

drank Eggnog Marshmallow Treat by 52teas

All these genmaichas taste the same to me, but I love them all. I can’t really say there’s anything eggnog about this, but it does have some softness added to the usual toastiness. It’s quite tasty, like all 52teas genmaicha, but I would have really liked to taste some eggnog in there.

I’m happy to have a plainish rooibos back on my shelf again. I’ve been making large pitchers of this for the fridge. It’s not super special, but it has that sweet rooibos flavor that I love. I can taste a little hint of almond and maybe some vanilla too, but mostly the rooibos shines.

Bio

I’m an event planner who always has multiple mugs of tea beside me. Hobbies other than tea include board games, video games, cooking international dishes, science fiction, hiking, jigsaw puzzles, tap dancing, reading, listening to podcasts, and playing with my troublesome kitties.

Favorite flavors: dessert flavors, nutty, melon, mint, strawberry, anything rooibos-related.

Don’t prefer: Smoky, rosemary, savory flavors, floral (other than lavender), plain tea.

I always drink flavored tea, and preferably caffeine-free or black. I’ll try just about anything though! Let me know if you’re interested in a swap!

My ratings are kind of meaningless, but basically
90-100 pretty perfect
80-89 really good
70-79 good, but not the best
60-69 okay, but probably not for me
1-59 varying degrees of dislike
