52 Tasting Notes

I am very sad, because I was looking back through my tasting notes for the day, and saw that my post from this morning was missing :( I was (and still am) excited because my swap from Roswell Strange was waiting for me when I got to work!!! I also got my box from MissB late in the day yesterday!!!

I was so excited that I decided to do a “Fandom Day” with the samples from Cavo and Roswell

I wish Steepster or my browser hadn’t eaten my note.

Dexter

Bad Steepster -at least you noticed. Awesome tea day though!!!

221tea

Haha thanks…I have to pick a theme for tomorrow too.

MissB

Fandom day! Awesome. I hope you get a kick out of everything.. there’s a ton of fandom teas in there.

Yup. It’s decided. I am not a fan of smokey teas. I was hoping for graham cracker/marshmallow/chocolate goodness with maybe a HINT of smoke…

This is definitely less smokey than their “Campfire” blend, but still too much smoke for me.

If you like smokey tea, ask me for a swap…I’ll gladly pass it along.

Sil

smokey + maple syrup = good time.

ohfancythat

Have you tried Della Terra’s S’Mores tea? It’s got the chocolate and marshmallows and not the smoke. Pretty sweet though, though the base is nothing fancy

ohfancythat

Also the graham, it’s got that too

Whispering Pines Tea Company

By tomorrow this will be available with a checkbox to opt out of the lapsang in the blend :)

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Both Autumn Foxtrot and S’mores are now available as unsmoked blends :)

221tea

O_O BRENDEN! THAT is music to my ears. I just got my newest order in from you, but when it’s time to restock again, I will definitely be picking up a sample of the unsmoked version!

@whatshesaid…I’ll have to check that one out!

221tea

Sil if you want it, I will happily send it along. Let me know via PM if interested :) No charge…happy to share the wealth :)

ohfancythat

Oh now a non smoky version sounds delish!

Sil

would love to do a little swap with you, if you’re game. I know you’re just getting in to things, so happy to send a few things your way as well. OR if you want to send that my way, i’m happy to pay it back in a future swap sometime too haha

kimquat

Is there any chance you still have some of this to swap? I was going to place a WP order soon and am on the fence about adding this tea. (:

Fandom Tea Day – Tea #3

Sherlock: I think I’ll surprise John. He’ll be delighted!
Mycroft: You think so? Hmm.
Sherlock: Pop round to Baker Street. Who knows, jump out of a cake?

Oh how I wish we had actually been able to see that scene realized. But to be fair, my mental picture of that scene is probably much more fun, and MUCH more filthy.

(Evil smirk)

Naughty. Much like this tea. I’m going to be honest…there is SO much going on, I don’t know what is ACTUALLY going on.

Is it an Earl Grey? Is it a black tea? Is it a cousin of chai?

It’s confusing. Much like season three of Sherlock. But I think I like it…also, much like season three of Sherlock. I might try it again some fine day…JUST like season three of Sherlock. The list goes on and on. Hehe.

ohfancythat

Aw. I loved season three so bad!

TeaLady441

I did too Poor Sherlock was such a mess. He just didn’t understand how badly he’d hurt John, and I don’t think he really realized what he thought about John until the wedding. It’s so complicated. Those poor boys.

TeaLady441

I’ve heard some fan theories suggesting that since Moriarty is back, he’s probably been messing around with things for a bit and he probably was the one who sent Mary (undercover Mary) to seduce John. And I totally don’t trust her. And she might turn on him in S4. Eeek!

221tea

Oh ladies, we could be here all night. Hehe. I do love season three, but the boys got whumped so hard this season that it is almost hard for me to watch. They both suffered a great deal. They love each other and they have no idea how to handle it. I think IF John hadn’t been kidnapped in episode 1 of season 3, we might have gotten a different kind of season. I would have LOVED to have know what would have happened if he had actually gotten to go up and talk to Sherlock instead of getting drugged and kidnapped. I honestly really do hope Mary is associated with Moriarty and I hope she is eliminated. I HATE that they wrote in a pregnancy for her. It’s such a cheap plot point, and it makes writing her out all the more difficult without killing a child needlessly. Mary’s character could have been just as messed up WITHOUT a child. Ug. Can you tell I have strong feelings about it? I LOVED the character of Mary until they made her pregnant. I am hoping the baby isn’t John’s, and that Mary is taken care of by Mycroft or Moriarty.

221tea

ALSO…I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Moriarty might be back. I’m trying not to get my hopes up but I love him. Andrew Scott plays him brilliantly!!! I don’t even care that both Sherlock and Moriarty “fake-suicided” each other on the roof of St. Barts. Haha.

ohfancythat

I admit, Mary is the thing I hated about S3. Mostly because I feel she just gets in the way, between Sherlock and John. I also hope she’s somehow “taken care of”

I feel like I had more laugh out loud moments in S3 than any other!
I’ve been trying to get hubby to watch Sherlock with me as I’ve repeated raved about how it’s the most clever and my new favorite show ever….we’ve only just finished S2 together, like, 1-2 months ago and I’m so sick of waiting for him to decide to be ready to watch 3 with me that I might have to just go it alone end too bad for him.

I am torn between loving the long episodes and wishing for more eps per season!

ohfancythat

*repeatedly raved

*and too bad for him

Stupid autocorrect

ohfancythat

Also his wedding speech almost made me sob with happiness, hahah

TeaLady441

Oh man, that speech was so great, and funny, and so awkward and painful and… well that sums up the whole series I think. That series had some really emotional bits to it- I was happy to see more of Sherlock & Mycroft and how thy were maybe a bit closer than before. Overall though, it was really hard for me – I just couldn’t handle thepain and the obstacles for johnlock. :|

Oh,and that bit where Lestrade is going to make an awesome arrest and be a big hero and then Sherlock calls him for an ‘emergency’ and he loses it really annoyed me. I like Lestrade; I felt the writers just messed with him for a cheap laugh and that’s not cool. So not cool.:|

I’m hoping Mary is dealth with in S4 because there’s just so much I don’t undesrtand about her, but I don’t trust her and she just needs to go. The baby thing… UGH. Why did they have to go there? I agree that it just felt gimmicky.

Still, I really did love the show, and I’m happy to read fic and meta theories while I wait for the nextbatch. The fact that they shoot it as three movies instead of as episodes means it’s easier to bring the actors together, and to keep it fresh for them, so for that reason I am in total support.

Also, here’s an excellent fic about the eventuality of johnlock: https://archiveofourown.org/works/1518632

ohfancythat

That’s a good point about the way they shoot it being easier for the actors’ schedules and whatnot.

I can’t deny I love having 1.5 hours to sit down and enjoy my fave show!

I agree with all your points :)

I had this tea after I got home from dinner with friends. It was probably a bit too late to have caffeinated tea, but I’m such a rebel. (Heavy sarcasm)

This is a lovely black tea with notes of raspberry and chocolate that don’t overshadow the black tea base. I highly enjoyed it. I wish it hadn’t been so late. I wanted to try a resteep, but I didn’t want to risk the late hour.

Another hit from Butiki!

Fandom Tea Day – Tea #2

The Doctor: You didn’t always take me where I wanted to go.
Idris (The TARDIS): No, but I always took you where you needed to go.

I feel like that quote sums up my feelings about this tea. This tea contains my arch-enemy, bergamot, so I immediately wanted to run the other way. BUT it’s a fandom blend AND it was sent to me by the lovely Roswell Strange SO I felt the need to try it.

I’m glad I did. I might not sip it that often, but the bergamot is fairly mild, and slighty tolerable, and the blackberry and vanilla come through nicely, so I might imbibe from time to time.

Because I do, so very much, love the TARDIS.

mj

I love the TARDIS too…but maybe not enough to drink blergamot

TeaLady441

Glad to hear the bergamot was tolerable! It’s a nice cup!

Captain’s Backlog – Tea Date 043014 @ 0930

I’m a geek…if you follow me, you should get used to it. I’m not ashamed of it. Hehe.

This team was out of this world. (Ducks rotten tomatoes) It holds the distinction of being one of the only green teas that I actually enjoy. The tasting notes are light and never overpowering. The strawberry is natural and I was happily surprised that the ginger flavor was not strong at all. I probably wouldn’t have ordered this on my own because of the ginger, but it was one of the teas that I won in Butiki’s tea giveaway with Whispering Pines, and I am so happy it was included!

I have noticed that green tea makes me feel slightly dizzy, but I don’t have that reaction with other types of teas…it’s weird. Maybe I get high off of green tea? Haha. I guess there could be worse things in life!

Roswell Strange

Looks like we both share an aversion to green tea and ginger :p

221tea

We’re tea twins. Hehe.

Fandom Tea Day – Tea #1

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.” (One of my favorite Jane Austen Quotes)

This tea is lovely! I am so thankful that cavocorax sent this as part of our swap! I think I might have to think about keeping a stock of this from time to time.

Blackberry hits my taste buds first, followed by a lovely vanilla finish. The black tea base is mild, and never overpowers. YUM.

It’s been a good tea day so far! I mailed out my tea swap packages to Cavocorax, Roswell Strange, and Carol Who this morning!

I had two great teas, which I will log later (White Rhino by Butiki, and Caramel Almond Amaretti by Teavana)

AND I am going out with a friend tonight for Japanese and the restaurant serves Matcha-based cocktails!!! I am excited!!!

carol who

Great! O boy, oh boy! More tea! A matcha based cocktail sounds interesting… give us a report back on that one. :)

mj

I would also like to hear about matcha-based cocktails! Intriguing!

221tea

They had Matcha Lattes, Matcharitas, Matchatinis, and a Matchajito. I tried the Matcharita. It was pretty good. I don’t know that I would get it again, but it was fairly tasty! I looked on Pinterest and there are TONS of recipes for Matcha based cocktails if you are interested. :)

Roswell Strange

Swap box went out to you today; I had time to finish packaging it up this morning so I sent it along with what I was sending to VariaTEA. Hopefully it gets to you soon!

drank French Toast by 52teas

Many thanks to cavocorax for the sample! I love pancakes and/or french toast, so when I saw this in the swap bag I was over the moon!!! I can’t wait to compare this to “Pancake Breakfast” from Roswell Strange!

This is a super yummy tea! I don’t get much of the eggy/bread notes other people have mentioned, but I do get some yummy cinnamon right up front! The lingering taste kicks in a more well-rounded french toast vibe.

It makes me want to have breakfast for dinner. But we don’t have eggs or appropriate bread in the house. Guess I’ll go for a resteep instead. I think I might be adventurous and try the maple syrup idea on the resteep!

Wish me luck!

Sil

hahaha was this from the vast quantity i gave you cavo? (here’s hoping she reads this)

drank 1896 by Art of Tea

I had high hopes for this tea. I was hoping for a lightly flavored black tea to add to my morning routine. Sadly it did not live up to expectations. It’s not a bad tea, it’s just an “ok” tea. I got hints of grapefruit with a flowery finish. I am finding that I am not a fan of flowers in my tea.

I will save it for swaps, but it won’t be a restock for me.

Profile

Bio

I just started drinking loose tea this year…and by “drinking” I mean, “completely obsessed” with no hope or want of redemption.

One experience with some rooibos and an infuser to show me just how easy it was, and that was all she wrote.

The only tea I ever had before this year was bagged Earl Grey, that one bad experience was enough to put me off tea for life. Turns out, after some trial and error, I discovered I just don’t like bergamot.

All other tea is fair game. I am enjoying expanding my horizons, and I would love to do a swap if anyone is willing to give a newbie a shot! Check out my cupboard and let me know if you are interested in anything!

Tea Ratings:
100-90 – DRINK ALL THE TEA!!! Always in my cupboard. I would cry if discontinued.
80-89 – Very good tea. I probably stock this year round in small quantities.
70-79 – Good tea, but not a “WOW” tea
60-69 – I can appreciate that this is good tea…just not a tea I enjoy
59 or below – No thank you.

As far as life outside of tea goes…I am a fangirl at heart.

I love BBC Sherlock and all things Johnlock.

I also love Doctor Who. 3, 9 & 10 are my favorites…I have high hopes for 12. My favorite companions are River Song, Donna Noble and Mickey the Idiot.

I am an adult fan of Lego, as is my husband bgrinham. We collect Classic Space, Classic Star Wars, Harry Potter, Trains, and the Modular Buildings.

Feel free to say hello! I look forward to meeting people who share in my obsessions! Tea or otherwise!
