I see from previous tasting notes that this tea is a) from VariaTea (thanks!) and b) about 3 years old. Luckily, it was double-bagged and held up pretty well! Dry tea aroma was floral raspberry, and brewed aroma I initially thought was rose, until I remembered there was lychee in here (it was obviously lychee; I think I just tend to equate highly floral aromas sometimes). Flavour leaned most heavily on raspberry, though, with less floral, thank goodness. I’ve had better raspberry blacks (Butiki, 52teas I believe), but this wasn’t too bad. Another cup or two left that will be tasty!

This one has been sitting in my drawer for months and the only time it has been touched is when I doled it out for swaps. This is my first time trying it and I must admit that I’m not a fan. It smells rather artificial and that is coming through in taste as well. It almost tastes like warm grape soda. Yeah, not the most pleasant flavor. Perhaps it would be better cold brewed?

If it tastes like grape soda, maybe cold brew it and then mix with sparkling water? :p Or just drink grape soda, I guess…

VariaTEA

Haha I am not a lover of grape soda to begin with so a tea that recreates the taste doesn’t appeal to me all that much either.

VariaTEA

If it did though, this might have made a good tea soda (not that I know how to make those).

Sami Kelsh

Do the tea soda-making folks have a sodastream thing maybe? I don’t know. I also haven’t had grape soda in probably 25 years. It’s probably gross if you’re an adult.

VariaTEA

I have a soda stream but I haven’t been bothered to ever try it. One day perhaps. I can ask Roswell Strange for her methods as she seems to have it down or I can google it.

Roswell Strange

I do own a Soda Stream, but I’ve been making tea soda since before I acquired it. Basically the same method though: brew up a very concentrated 1 or 2 oz. amount of tea (and sweeten with sugar or alternative sweetener if desired) then add to club soda/soda water.

This is a queued tasting note.

Thank you VariaTEA for sending more of this my way! It’s been two years since I last sampled it, but I swear that when I brewed it up last week it tasted just as fresh and I remember it being way back, which is impressive given that this is two+ years old! Definitely more raspberry flavour than litchi/lychee, but both were certainly present. Quite natural tasting overall, with a really fresh, juicy and just slightly tangy flavour. I also tasted some nice, softer floral notes.

However, I do agree with my original rating of 77 though. But that just proves this tea is nothing if not consistent – especially over such an impressive time frame.

Wow, this sounds amazing. I didn’t realize this company was relatively close to where I live. I may have to order from them….

VariaTEA

Yay for proper tea storage maintaining the freshness!

24/28 sipdowns.

and no..no i don’t recommend this much tea in a weekend but then, if you only 2 hrs over the weekend, it’s not as difficult as it may seem given how many hours there are in the day. I’m still working…the migration finished forever ago but i need to fin tune something i need to launch today…and it’s giving me all sorts of grief. Add to that, the ppl who were supposed to get crap to me last week…and promised it to me this weekend…still not in my inbox sigh i’m soooo tired. i just want to eat and go to bed. and not go to work for a week!

This one is from variaTEA and is my favourite so far of the victorias tea whatever whatever teas… this has a nice raspberry taste to it, though i’m not getting a LOT of litchi…but it’s nice…and refreshing and would probably make an excellent cold brew. so thanks for sharing!

Yay! This is the first of the Victoria’s teas that I really enjoyed. (232) Thanks VariaTEA It was sweet raspberry and fruit and I fnished the entire cup with dinner before I had a chance to properly log it. But it was good. :)

VariaTEA

I haven’t tried this one yet but each time I smell it, it smells good. Glad you finally got one you enjoyed :)
