Cookies 'N' Cream Black

Well, this tea is sure pretty with its flowers, but it doesn’t taste a whole lot like cookies and cream.

Before additions: tasted like a slightly sweetened with maple syrup Ceylon. It reminded me of something that I still can’t pinpoint, but I wanted cookies.

After: flowers and chocolate. So this tea does know the way to a girl’s heart, I suppose. But I didn’t want the pretty petals to be brought out, I wanted cream! (Sidenote: I swear the milk I bought is no good. I don’t know why I continue buying milk for cooking at this grocery store because it always tastes horrible to me. I’m just not sure about coconut milk working in a ranch dressing type setting, especially since I’m already replacing nearly everything with Greek yogurt.)

Anyway, I can’t decide which way it was better. I love the chocolate notes, which is what I want in cookies. But I miss the maple sweetness from before. I’ve got plenty of this though to get through. And I’ve had it for awhile so I should probably get drinking.

This tea is weird. I get the chocolate scent in the dry notes, but once its steeped it tastes floral like. Definetly no chocolate & no cream.

This is very chocolatey and floral. I did as other tasting notes suggested and didn’t raise my expectations too high and didn’t actually expect it to taste like the name suggests and it’s not bad. Since Jackie had trouble at 3 minutes with bitterness, I dropped the temperature and only steeped for 2.5 minutes and I’m not having a bitterness issue at all. Of course, I also add milk and sugar to my black teas, so that might be part of it also, but I’m very sensitive to bitterness so I can usually taste it anyway.

I’m not really sure how I feel about the floral aspects of this. The flowery tastes mingle strangely with the chocolate ones and it doesn’t feel melded well, or ‘together’ enough for me, like they’re competing and the floral is winning. I would rather the chocolate to win.

All in all, this is okay. Someone would probably like it better than me if they like floral aspects more than me. I’m glad I got to try this, but I won’t be drinking the…1/2-1 tsp left in my sample. Now what to do with it! My heart hurts when I throw tea in the trash.

I’ve been enjoying this tea a lot recently. I’m not much of a chocolate tea person — I love caramels and hazelnuts in my teas but all of the heavier dessert teas taste uniformly like tootsie rolls and it’s a little (and sometimes a lot) off putting.

This tea is different. It has a deeper, chocolatey taste, but it’s on the back side of the flavor. When you take a sip, it’s all hot and delicious black tea flavor, and the finish is all Oreo cookie. I’ve been turning to it a lot in the late evening as it’s that perfect sweet fix.

Usually I steep at boiling for 5 minutes. This morning I forgot about it and left it for at least 15…and I’m happy to report that it’s still divine, though it does taste better after dinner rather than with breakfast.

I was expecting way more from this tea. I was drinking my new Della Terra teas last night and this is such a fun flavor that I thought I’d be on cloud nine. It does not taste like cookies and cream, period. Upon first sip, my thought was “this tastes like rum”. I suppose that isn’t negative for everyone, but I was hoping more for cookies. It does have a chocolatey smell once brewed, like melted chocolate chips and some flowery notes.

I brewed it for 3 mintues and it’s a bit bitter for me. All of this said, I’m probably still going to drink this during the work day today because the more I think of it as a slightly random flavored black tea, the more I’m ok with it. If you’re expecting it to taste as good as Della Terra’s flavored teas…lower your expectations.
