From Trader Joe's

If tea isn’t your first beverage choice during warmer months, let us convince you otherwise. Because watermelon is the epitome of summer days, Trader Joe’s Mint Watermelon Flavored Black Tea is truly a tea of summertime. Black tea from Indonesia, spearmint from the Pacific Northwest, natural flavors and dried watermelon: a supreme combination of flavors perfect for an early-morning mug or a refreshing afternoon iced tea.

Like a cool breeze on a warm summer’s night, there are few things as refreshing as a bite of cool, crisp watermelon. Last spring, our Buyers set out to pay homage to this seasonal favorite in the form of an easy-to-brew tea blend. Triumphantly, they returned with Trader Joe’s Mint Watermelon Flavored Black Tea.

Back again for a limited time, Trader Joe’s Mint Watermelon Flavored Black Tea is a harmonious blend of tea, herbs, & natural flavors, including black tea grown in Java, Indonesia; spearmint grown in the U.S. Pacific Northwest; plus orange peel, licorice, and – our personal favorite – bits of dried watermelon. The result is pure, spring-n’-summer magic: notes of invigorating mint, sweet watermelon, and earthy spice, all intermingling in one thoroughly thirst-quenching Tea.

What better way to celebrate a sunny, spring morning than with a hot cup of Trader Joe’s Mint Watermelon Flavored Black Tea? How better to kick off a summer picnic than with a nice, cool glass of it? With Mint Watermelon Tea, you get a little bit of sunshine in every sip.

Grabbed a single tea bag from a tea box. I get both the watermelon and mint. It would be tastier on an herbal or green base. The choice of a black base was a little strange. It does taste pretty good though. The watermelon is quite candy-like, and it fits perfectly with the mint. I’ve found myself craving more, so it must have been pretty good. Too bad the tea box is long gone, otherwise I would definitely grab some more!

I think this is one of the tins I am growing succulents in outside!

A tea bag I have received from derk – thanks a lot for all I have received. Now I am really having lots of tea. No more tea for me, need to drink my stash down a bit. Thank you Izzy too, for envelope from you.

I prepared this tea traditional – hot water, one bag per cuppa. I wanted something simple, not really in mood for doing gong-fu. I steeped it for maybe four minutes, while fresh melon aroma comes out.

It has got typical, bronze, colour, with aroma of melon (naturally) with little refreshing mint notes.

In taste… it is cold now, meh… nice watermelon, maybe bit more watermelon seeds with refreshing mint note. Black tea base is not present at all.
Not bad, though.

You’re welcome. Did that chocolate-dipped candied orange survive? Bad time of year to send it :P

Derk – the orange looks fine. I just need to pick up a tea to drink it with.

Steepster is behaving strange again. I wanted to write another tasting note for this one, remove it from cupboard et cetera. And when I click on the main page of tea, it shows like on mobile and can’t do anything there. If I click on “Rate this tea” it brings me back to main page.

So, at least somehow – this way.
Thank you derk for this tea. It had got unique property – when I wanted to brew it, I couldn’t find it. When not, it was there. But today, when I was preparing teas for you I found it and… took to some other place so it won’t disappear again. And of course, it hid again.
But I have found it.
It is still somehow same tea, even after 6 months. Certainly more on melon side this time. It is quite weird to drink this while outside is 0°C, but why not. It reminds me nice summer weather. I really hate this season, when it is freezing, but no snow outside.

I would rate it higher this time; but I can’t. 80/100.

When a tea is stuck in mobile view, you have to click to “Edit” the entry, even if you don’t want to edit the information. Save it from the Edit screen. It should go back to the normal view.

Martin Bednář

It worked normally today, so I have added a proproper tasting note. But I will keep it here, just, why not?

It’s hard not to associate the taste of watermelon-flavoring with candy, and the smell of it with like, scented bath products. To be fair, I’m not the biggest fan of flavorings a lot of the time. I also haven’t tried it iced—I could see that working better. Maybe if the black tea was stronger, I’d enjoy it more, but the watermelon just smells and tastes overpowering.

Bought a tin of this finally after reading LuckyMe’s review and made a half gallon cold-brewed for the house. 8 sachets overnight in the fridge made a damn fine refreshing tea that is well-balanced with black tea base, mints (mostly spearmint) and natural watermelon taste. Couldn’t discern the orange peel nor the licorice, meaning the tea doesn’t leave a sickly sweet flavor in the mouth. I suppose the licorice is there to add some thickness to the body. The only thing that gets me is the sweet watermelon candy aroma. It doesn’t quite match the watermelon flavor. But I know some people will love that!

Sounds delicious! Wish we had had a TJ’s nearby!

LuckyMe

Glad you liked this one too. Reminds me that I need to pick up a tin of this next time I’m at TJ’s.

derk

gmathis: I can post you some sachets in an envelope for the low cost of one stamp. Then if you like it, you can get somebody near you and a Trader Joe’s to fetch you a tin.

Tried a sample of this at TJ’s the other day and was really impressed by it. The mint and watermelon taste natural and well balanced with the black tea base. I had it iced and unsweetened and could totally see myself sipping this during the summer months. Reminded me of one of my favorite summer salads: watermelon, mint, and feta…yum!

ashmanra

Deffo will look for this next time I am near a Trader Joe’s!

derk

Yeah, I will, too. That watermelon salad is also one of my favorites. I have distinct memory of those smells in my Yia-yia’s kitchen when I was little. If you have a Costco membership, they sell an excellent feta called Dodoni.
