From The TeaCupany

Enjoy the toasted full flavor of a roasted Mate with the added infusion of chocolate and hazelnuts. With an amazing taste to match its intoxicating smell this blend is usually the heavy coffee drinkers’ favorite alternative to their typical coffee drink. You get all the flavor of a roasted Mate with chocolate and a nice kick of caffeine so if you are looking for something to try instead of your everyday coffee in the morning give this blend a shot. You won’t be sorry!

I placed my TeaCupany order Sunday night. I got it today. I never get orders that quickly. From my understanding this is a fairly new tea company out of BC Canada. They have tons of flavored tea on their website, sample sizes available in BOTH 10g and 25g sizes. Really affordable, easy to try a new company when you can get small sizes of lots of different teas. I ordered 12 and they threw in a free sample. The other good news is that all my packages are resealable – even the 10g ones. :)) What can I say, I think they are doing the right things to get tea buyer like me to give them a chance. Thumbs up customer service and selection on web site.

Now the tea. I’m a HUGE Yerba Mate fan (I know you wouldn’t know it from my tasting notes) so maybe I’m a closet Yerba Mate fan. I was a little apprehensive about this one, the description said lightly roasted. Hmmmmm I’m more of a dark roasted kind of girl, but the rest of the ingredients sound right up my alley.
This is really good!! If you are a fan of this style of tea, you should check it out. It’s chocolate, hazelnut, sweet, nutty, with just a little of the coffee ish flavors that come out of the mate. It’s not too heavy on any one element. They all work really well together. I’m pretty fussy about hazelnut, I love it if it’s done right, hate it if it’s not. Doesn’t taste artificial at all. This is a really nice example of this type of tea. Thumbs up.

The only thing I’m a little confused about…. the steeping instructions on my package says 150 F for 3-6 minutes. 150? That’s so low I don’t even know what that is in C. I googled it…65 for those who care. 65? Really? I don’t steep anything at 65. I normally do mate about 90. I’ll admit it, I didn’t follow instructions but I did lower my temp to about 85 in the spirit of compromise. I probably steeped it a little longer than recommended too probably a little more than 6 minutes. I liked the end result so it’s all good.

All in all, so far so good. I’m liking this new company. Will keep continue to write tasting notes as I try them….

JustJames

good to know about a local start up! thanks dexter! 150…. hmmm, indeed, rather odd.

Dexter

I looked at the rest of the packages, everything else seems to have pretty normal temperatures. Except Grapefruit Oolong says 212F. I never use boiling on oolong. Depends on they type of oolong. 80 for the REALLY green ones up to about 90 for the really dark ones. I generally look at the leaves, judge a color and pick a temp.

keychange

Oh, glad to hear about this new company, and bonus tha tit’s in Canada! I’ll be checking them out as more reviews come in from you.

Sil

you find me a good yerba mate….so far i am not a fan.

Lala

Do they have a website, I googled it but only seemed to get a bunch of garbage sites?

Dexter

Yes as Sil stated, that’s where I ordered from

Dexter

I had some of their sweet potato pie last night – will write proper tasting note, but I was surprised at how “sweet potato” it was….I have no complaints so far.

the TeaCupany

Hey Dexter,
I was just trying to message you to ensure you got your package before the weekend. I am happy to hear you did.

Many apologies about the steeping temp mix up, as noted we are new and still working out the kinks in the system.

I have updated the yerba mate to reflect a recommended steeping temperature of between 160° and 180° and the oolong to reflects a 190°. Sorry about any confusion caused there.

not a fan of this one, which is a little sad because i had high hopes for this one. Thanks for sending it my way though dexter! All i could taste in this was the mate, which i don’t love, but i keep trying to enjoy. I will hold off rating this one in case it’s just a matter of not hitting the sweet spot this time around. thanks dexter!

Dexter

LOL it’s funny how the taste we don’t like is usually ALL we can taste. I personally LOVED this and thought the mate was almost too hidden.

Sil

Sipdown! (No change in number though – this appears not to have been on my swap sheet. Sigh.) And thanks again to Sil, courtesy originally of Dexter, I believe.

Not too bad, actually – I can taste the chocolate and what’s coming off as coffee to me, mixed with the characteristic strong roasted mate flavours. No hazelnut, really. I think this would be quite a bit better latte-style, though, because it’s verging slightly on bitter as it is.

If you’re like me you can add it to your sheet and then cross off….feeling good you sipped down! Lol

Kittenna

Hahaha, it’s something like that :) Still feels good to toss a bag and reduce a bit of clutter! I’d be so happy to get down to three drawers of tea plus my little set of cubbies… but that’s a long time coming.
