I’m really raining on everyone’s parade lately aren’t I? Cover your eyes if you don’t want to read this. I don’t know what cotton candy everyone is eating but I must have been eating a different kind. This tea is not cotton candy for me. Even with a generous amount of agave I’m getting a strong base with something sweet at the back. I’d say it’s a cotton candy finish. I expected stronger cotton candy flavour and less base flavour. It smelled like strong black tea after brewing so was worried before I even tasted it.

The bag ripped when I opened the foil pouch but it was not a big deal, I just dumped it in my DAVIDs steeper and continued as per directions. It was interesting to see the base. The tea is very fine though. Like ground coffee. More like bagged tea than loose leaf tea. I meant to drink it without sugar but it really tasted like nothing to me so it was either suffer, dump it, or sweeten. I chose the latter. We’re going to the Jazz Streetfest and am taking this so I really didn’t want to leave the house with something not enjoyable.

Sadly I think this will be my last SBT adventure. I still have the watermelon one but if tastes like the other four I’ve tried, well, I won’t be in a hurry to brew it. They’re just too subdued for me in the flavour department, that’s all.

I am in total agreement. I haven’t tried the SBT, but the original loose tea, and it was underwhelming. Just black tea vaguely sweetened with sugar. No cotton candy.

i agree with you… i smelled the potential, but i got nothing in the steep. i didn’t even review it i don’t think. i like the baked goods, i loved the lime jello…. the rest? =0(

I did a little dance when I opened this one up. It smells SO sweet and sugary and a bit caramelized and just so much like cotton candy! And the scent filled up my kitchen. So I knew this was going to be good. I’m the only one in my house who drinks iced tea on a regular basis, so I didn’t want to make a full pitcher. That, and I wanted to be able to make this goodness last as long as possible! So I cheated and tore open the tea bag, poured the leaf into another container, and will be making this by the cup instead.

I also cheated by trying this hot for the first time, instead of iced! After smelling the dry leaf I knew I wouldn’t be able to wait for it to chill or cold brew. So I added a bit of milk, a touch of cream, and some sugar to my cup. Mmmm, it still smells so strongly of cotton candy after steeping! And it tastes divine. Strong black tea base followed by a smooth hit of cotton candy. It’s definitely pink cotton candy rather than blue (blue’s my favourite!) but I can overlook that due to this tea’s impossible yumminess. In comparison to the 52teas version, I find the flavouring to be a bit stronger in this one, and definitely pink cotton candy, whereas I found the other to have more of a generic cotton candy taste. I would happily drink either of them, and while they are definitely different, it would be hard to choose a favourite! Can’t wait to try it iced, as it’s supposed to be.

I made this yesterday afternoon as a treat for my kids (and myself). They each inhaled a glass when they got home from school and then continued drinking it through dinner. It is definitely a big hit around here.

I was able to sneak a glass for myself, and the sweet spun sugar taste is really delicious. It immediately made me think of picnics, birthday parties and waking on the boardwalk in Ocean City. Happy thoughts with a happy tea!

So my kids have decided that we need Cotton Candy, Bubblegum, and Watermelon SBT on hand always. I have a few other teas to add to that list, so it looks like we’ll be planning an order with Frank sooner rather than later.

VariaTEA

So does the SBT version taste better than the normal Cotton Candy black?

Veronica

Yeah, it does. It actually taste like cotton candy rather than generically sweet.

VariaTEA

Oh cool. Perhaps I will have to pick that up the next time I get SBTs. I have so many right now because I made the mistake of letting my brother chose what he wanted – that is how I wound up with Maple Bacon :P.

I made this for my MIL and family while they were here on the weekend. This is delicious, light strawberry notes, and a little bit of spun sugar. I think I might even order this again sometime!

I cold-brewed this tea a few days ago but only now got around to putting sugar in it. I’m somewhat sick with a cold but there’s cleaning that needs to get done today and I’ve gotten a late start to it.

This tea, when cold brewed as long as I did, which is about 12 hours, has a nice dark rich tasting base and some sweetness on top that must be the cotton candy/caramelized sugar. If asked what the sweetness was, I wouldn’t have said cotton candy, but this is nice tasting all the same. Not quite up to the razzleberry standards but still pleasant to taste.

Made this one today and it’s already more than half way gone. I think this is one of my new favorite flavors. It’s sweet but not too sweet. It has a lovely sweet and fluffy cotton candy flavor. Mmm I should have added this to my order D:

I made this up the other day. It was good, but the Cotton Candy flavor every one raved about this one didn’t really come out that much. I mean it tasted sweet, but I wasn’t getting a cotton candy flavor. Maybe next time I will try to sweeten this with sugar instead of Light agave nectar. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I’m not sure if this helps but for the part where the instructions say to use boiling water, I use water that is just sippably hot, basically it’s just starting to show the tiny bubbles starting to move like the size of the ones in soda. Sorry, I describe things in a weird way.

Ze_Teamaker

ahaha, It’s ok. I describe stuff odd myself. I will give a lower temp ago next time. I can see that helping.

I used to thinking of iced tea as being fruit flavoured so cotton candy struck me as a bit of an odd choice for this style of tea. None the less it seems to work pretty well. The spun sugar cotton candy flavour was a bit on the subtle side but adding a tablespoon or so of agave nectar to the jug helped bring it out.

I really like this one. It’s got a nice cotton candy taste, sweet & fluffy :) It’d go on my shopping list if I buy more SBT’s for sure. It’s just that I have so much right now I don’t know when that’d be… which is why I’m not doing their latest kickstarter. I did the indiegogo and kickstarter campaigns and now have soooo much to go through.
